Just finished 3 and it was awful

The first time since maybe the original Mafia (20 years ago) that I have used a trainer. When I hit Lau Ka Long I didn't have any weapons or health drinks and it was just fucking bullshit. I've been stuck on fights in Yakuza before but that one bored me to tears. The constant blocking is just zzZZZzzZZZzz

3 is easily the weakest game in the entire series. I would know, I played all of them. Very Happy

Same, especially when you do them in order and come from #2 Very Happy the change of scenery is what made me persevere, but it took a while to get into it.
The jump from 3 to #4 is equally big, with the huge scope and different playable characters in 4

I started 0 again and damn the business grind is real. I did start again with the intention of doing all side stories, but this shit is painful. The short and fun ones are nice, but some are real busywork

I actually loved the grind in 0

4 is great so far, it's nice to have fights that aren't 95% full of the AI blocking. Much more fluid with a better camera as well. Glad I saved all these older ones for the Deck.

Akiyama's a cool character Very Happy

Another one down! Those end boss fights were bullshit, my thumb is sore from all the punching. The hell was up with the final one Laughing

Now I have to wait for the other Yakuza men to go on sale Sad

My beef was particularly with the Tanimura one which really meant mowing down the endless enforcers that kept attacking us while Seishiro would keep firing from a distance. Everything before that was fine as they were just one of one battles. Kiryu's finale battle theme was fantastic.

Biggest issue for me with these fights is how locking on breaks easily, and blocking is useless the majority of the time with big bosses. At this point I can't even remember if it was an issue in 0/K1/K2, but it's frustrating as hell in 3/4

I also barely had any healing items for anyone but Kiryu, so it definitely kept me on my toes

Wish I could have thrown Munakata from that fucking building Laughing

I change my mind, 5 is the worst now. Prison, hunting, the small town where you can't avoid 5,000 fights because of narrow paths blocked by invisible walls. Ugh!

Are You Serious

Finally finished it, but it was a slog. The tropes this series has, by this game, are REALLY starting to wear thin. It'd give The Days of our Lives a run for its money. Eg: someone is about to be shot, but then the gunshot goes off and it was someone else doing the shooting. Again and again and again. I think I will give this series a rest for a while.

Playing characters other than Kiryu or Akiyama kinda sucks as well.

Nr 6 is a bit more toned down and focused as you play only with Kiryu and (I think) mostly in one location, and it's not as long either. It's a nice one to end the series with, as there are many cameos of previous games and you get to know what happened to them, so I'd give it a try.

I mean, you've come this far Razz

After giving up on DD2 and Horizon, I started Yakuza 6. It's the first one I've played on the deck that didn't run very well so I started on PC instead

The difference from Yakuza 5 to 6 is night and day. 6 has better combat, visuals, story and characters. So far, anyway. I don't want to jinx it Laughing

It feels much more like Kiwami 1 + 2. Those games in the middle that never got redone were mostly a chore to get through

Done with 0, Kiwami 1 and 2 and Gaiden after a bit of a stop since the somewhat more aged mechanics in Yakuza 3 made for a good stopping point there.

Like a Dragon is not bad either but the regular stops as encounter difficulties scale up and need for older-school JRPG style grinding of equipment and leveling has been a reminder of how maybe not everything was better in the past.

It is fun though despite that and the entire series has this stuff, Dragon engine titles and the newer combat with the easier mechanics in the newer game have just made it a bit easier to hurdle through. Even managed to get all the way up through the bonus boss fights in Gaiden which is a first for how ridiculously over the top those can be.
(This one is no exception though and pulls out all the stops in addition to the arena before it.)

Bit into Judgement and then it is time to throw back into the Samurai drama with Ishin. Very Happy
Overall, a great series but one to be tackled in steps or risk serious burnout, Yakuza 0 is massive but so are several of the others if one attempts to see and do most of what they offer.

I have been reading a bit but there has been little to actually post about, previously I was almost only into gaming after all and that has taken a bit of a hiatus or had until more recently.
Last couple of years have been pretty turbulent, not that I am in any hurry but the backlog is growing a bit if I am ever to try and clear some of the games or franchises that still draw my interest, of which this series is a really big one.

As to the games themselves or the most recent one I played through Yakuza Gaiden was a nice little throwback to Yakuza 0, you get money everywhere and upgrading and improving is easy with a relaxed pacing and little in the way of permanently missing out on any content.

While also being a bit less overwhelming, since it is such a large game to get through. But if one sticks with it Yakuza 0 is a good game and still one of my favorites for the series even with the older engine.
No idea for what is next, Judgement, Like a Dragon or an actual Yakuza 8 but hopefully there is more to come for Kazama Kiryu as well.

EDIT: Right the text formatting, have to do a bit of adjusting to get it into something that doesn't look like separate rows of endlessly flowing text again.
