An entertaining open world action role-player, with an interesting approach to AI-controlled companions, but which proves disappointingly similar to the 2012 original.
"A magnificent adventure with impressive fights and some very rough edges."
Very rough edges, gives it 9/10 though. The same guy gave The Inquisitor 8/10. These are all meaningless.
Performance sounds absolutely dreadful too
ffs just stop using these sites.. the videos and content are horrible by people that have barely played video games. Watch some gameplay, buy, play and refund in 2 hours, it's not complicated.
So it's not really "old school" open world until the last world? he says you can for example see a cool forest on the map that looks fun to explore, but in the game it's really just a set path through the forest that you can't deviate from, it's a single path. he describes the world like noodles on plate, so paths more than something open world.
that sounds really bad, but i think maybe the first game had similar design sometimes, i can't remember... other than that + performance and fading in out/NPC's (that looks horrible) it sounds good and exactly as i would expect.
Another game that is not optimized at all, can't even run solid 60fps @ 4k on high end hardware. What are these monkey devs doing these days?
my guess, they're using the old engines method for draw calls and it's horribly limited. i doubt they have anybody that understands the engine at this point
i don't know what he did when it comes to that, but i really doubt he's lying about that part of the game or that that he didn't play it. he does seem to like the game a lot.
i guess i just found it interesting that he mentions it, while others don't.

It's not the same engine as the first though. This is ReEngine, first was MT Framework.
ReEngine is used for e.g Resident Evil, Street Fighter. Doesn't really look like an engine made for large open world games.

This is because there is no fast travel and you kinda need those guided lines. Or noodles.

nah i don't think it's connected to that, i don't see how it would be connected to the level design.
It also has fast travel from what i have heard, but there aren't many places where you can use it. I also like that it's something you have to find, like an item to use it. This is something i really dislike in new games. Fuck, i remember in Ultima Underworld 2 for example when you got the runes so you fast travel between two places, it was a really euphoric feeling and absolutely not given for free or even something you would expect!
The system seems quite good like that, you can get clues in other ways, you have pawns to ask for directions, and they might know (depends on if they have been there or not it seems like). Also the game has a map, obviously, though it might not be filled in entirely from the start. Statues also plays a role in showing directions, but it seems to do more with secrets(?)
all in all, they don't seem to care what little Billy has to say
“In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate,” a Capcom representative told IGN. “We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”
Expect shit performance when more than 2-3 NPCs are on screen regardless of hardware / money blown on PC.

That's a good thing (if this is the case here).
But generally we're used to all of the industry to desperately want to keep Billy and Tyrone happy & involved.

So performance is pure dogshit.
Looking forward to see Steam reviews getting some B-52's doing their jobs.
