9/10 times it's merely pointless busywork to give a gambling addiction sense of accomplishment to the player. They either give you no choice, or respec free/easy, or with D3 here just have all skills.
And why make these things complicated, necessitating serious game balancing when your audience ^^^ just want a casual game with AtMoSPHerE and don't care if the gameplay is dog shit.
But even the most "hardcore" "role playing games" are structured this way. Character always starts a low-skill pleb and you "advance" as the games goes on. You whisper ten times and your speech skills magically goes " *poof* you can now lie more convincingly!".
Oh, and don't forget, the staple of "classing" "arr pee gees", turn based let everyone stand, while each character pops up, takes a swing of dice roll, then goes back to where it was. That is surely role playing.
I played Non season and 1+2 extensively but 3 is so much of a chore. I had hopes after 2 that it would get even better only to have this mess at hand.
So far im done with the game, the grind is abyssmal especially the new patch is a joke. You can now craft your Uber Unique when you salvage 5 other Uber Uniques which are dupes.
5 Dupes or whatever ? ARE YOU SERIOUS !
In S2 i grinded Duriel and did 1200 Runs and my droprate was like 5 Runs for Shako and another 300 for the next Uber and got Andariel or whatever other i didnt needed. All i wanted was Grandfather and ofcourse that was the last i got.
In the end i had 3 Shakos, 2 Andariels, 2 Doombringer, 2 Melted Heart, 2 Skyless Rings, 1 Avaron Staff and last the Grandfather. I could use each of them since i had 3x 100 Chars but i do this never again.
I farmed the Mats at the beginning myself but stopped shortly after when the duped mats could be bought and was then just running Duriel for around 2 Weeks, Gold has no value.
The best part is, when i finally got Granddaddy and the Abbatoir of Zir came out i ran this but stopped aswell since the Glyph leveling was awful, i got to lvl20 i think out of 200. The Content was great but way to repeditive and way to grindy which made me stop playing.
Im to old to waste my time anymore for this kind of Live Service Bullshit.
This Season i made 1x 100 and lost interest half way through, just finished it because my stupid ass bought the fucking Season Pass which i didnt wanted to waste.
Oh, and they also increased now the Uber drop chance outside of Duriel, before some people did the math and you had to get around 300 Uniques for the chance of getting one Uber to drop and now its increased but they didnt say by how much.
Wanna know how much Uniques i dropped this season ... 10 as of now. Fuck the Gamedevs and fuck this game, its lame as hell.
Oh and dont get me started on the Uber Malphas mats and the new pet...
Before the Game they stated also that every Item in the Shop wont be a Fomothing, guess what changed. They are now timed exclusives.
Blizz is beyond repair, the new CEO is the Ex Lead of the CoD Multiplayer department. Also with all the Layoffs now also in place the content will go downhill even further.
But i knew what i was getting into it, i knew what Blizzard had became and actually bought my first ever Blizz game because my RL mates played all the Diablo games that existed before.
Silly me, i know.
I don't see the campaign being on any list... Anyone having expectations regarding stellar story-writing from some AAA+ corporation in 2024 is... almost delusional.
Yet you keep mentioning this campaign as if it's something special.
Maybe it's me, expecting stellar story-writing in a hack and slash 80% of people spam: next -> next ->accept quest to kill things.
Is a bit high expectations.
None of the diablos had a good story, I feel like anyone that thinks the ones before it had one has nostalgia glasses on. It barely passes as a boilerplate fantasy adventure plot for a mediocre rpg module.
Spoiler:
- Diablo 2 or 3-Act I: You search a European Medieval-themed forest for a missing man, then you delve into the uttermost depths of a huge corrupted keep and kill a powerful demon at the bottom. The main villain of the act is female.
- Diablo 2 or 3-Act II: You search a Middle Eastern-themed desert to unite three critical plot items, beat the crap out of a powerful human mage who didn't do anything to you in his own arcane lair, and then you kill one of the Lesser Evils.
- Diablo 2 or 3-Act III: there is a great betrayal due to demonic corruption, you kill one of the Great Evils, a stone is involved, a human with Diablo inside them turns into Diablo proper and you enter the next act through a large red portal.
- Diablo 2 or 3-Act IV: You hunt down Diablo through a hell-blighted landscape that is part-Heaven, part-Hell , killing Izual along the way. Your safe haven is a fortress.
- Diablo 2 or 3-Act V: The villain has a stone with unimaginable power and they're trying to bend it to their will. You hunt them down through a sea of fresh corpses. Along the way you destroy a mage who betrayed you and a member of their family. In the end you have a pyrrhic victory.
For diablo 1, it was just a copy of a forgettable D&D module, changed enough not to rile up TSR.

I thought diablo 1 had by far the best material, D2 was pretty good too. I think everything from Blizzard since Warcraft3 has been pretty awful.
Diablo 1 had poems are other odds and ends that added to the game. I liked the shrine flavour text, halls of the blind, the archbishop lazarus quest, Cain told a lot of the backstory of the game. There wasn't a ton of story, it was fully voiced which wasn't really a thing in those days. Just enough to wait the 10 or so seconds to hear it out.

I understand that it wasn't clear: I play the campaign because it takes me on a journey around the world, not because I am fond of the story, characters or script.
The campaign starts promising with Nevesk, but everything else after is your typical Blizztard accessible, dumbed-down, casual predictable filler.
In short, the campaign is just a mean to take you around the world and unlock stuff.
The timing is interesting for the Gamepass release since it is a few weeks before the end of this current Season so it seems like they are trying to get people to pay for the Accelerated Battlepass hoping they can finish it in time. When they released it on Steam they at least timed it with the start of the new season.
POE was also pretty shit in beta but now it's one of the best ARPGs.
I will have to give it a try. Graphics and endgame content was really rough but that was at least. According to Steam it was back in 2021 when I got max level and just couldn't get into end content or may be there wasnt any,
Blizzard faster at pumping out shitty costumes than fixing important games aspects
I don't think its the same people making the cosmetic thats fixing the bugs though (or rather not fixing the bugs in this case)
I really hate when people make this analogy of "ohh its different developers who focus on gameplay vs pumping out cosmetics"
At the end of the day it's still same company.
If you have ever visited any of the big game developers you would see that they most often dont even share the same space. I know atleast that on Massive Entertainment the graphic artists are seperated from the rest (just like the sound artists) - that could ofcourse have changed, but the time i spent there was like that.
Sure its the same company, but what do you expect the rest should do while the programmers sort the bugs? Sit around and drink coffee?
Edit: So even if its frustrating (which I do agree totally on) that bugs still stay while shit is pumped out...it is what it is.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

You've described basically every ARPG made since Grim Dawn. This genre is basically dead, they're all one step away from F2P garbage.

How about instead of spending so much time and resources to create cosmetics that almost match the price of an already overpriced game, they spend that time to create enemy models, boss models, etc. You know, stuff that influences the content of a game that's lacking proper content?
