Remedy Entertainment signs a co-development and co-publishing agreement with 505 Games for Control 2

Nice, the first one had several flaws (namely the shooting and repetitive encounters) but I enjoyed its unique atmosphere as well as the noninvasive narrative and the extra-destruction. I look forward to ISOdemoing this sequel as long as it doesn't go full vittusaatana perkele derp.
Remedy Shares Development Updates For Control 2, Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, And Codename Condor

According to the report, the Control 2 team is “focused on finalizing the proof-of-concept stage, in which the game world, game mechanics and visual targets are proven.” The project is expected to move into the production readiness stage in Q2 of this year. Control 2 was first announced in 2022.
Max Payne 1&2 Remake, first announced in 2022 as a rebuilt version that combines both games into a single title, remains in the production readiness stage, as first announced last October. However, the game is expected to enter full production in Q2 2024.
Codename Condor has entered full production. Remedy describes its core loop as “engaging” and that “the game brings a unique Remedy angle to the genre.” Codename Kestral, Remedy’s other multiplayer title described as a “premium game with a strong, cooperative multiplayer component”, remains in the concept stage.
So we can probably expect Control 2 to release in 2026/2027.
Control 2's full production began in February 2025.
According to Remedy's annual report published in March, this phase is expected to last between 15 and 26 months, with a team size ranging from over 75 to 200 employees. The initial development budget for the sequel is €50 million. Remedy estimated that the game would need to sell between 3 and 4 million copies to break-even.
Control 2 is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
Interesting that they started so late. Alan Wake 2 launched in Oct. 2023. Yeah, they had the DLCs, but basically that is a 16 month gap for most of the team. I hope/wonder they worked on the Max Payne remakes to get them out soon.

EDIT: At first I was a little disappointed that we'll play as Dylan instead of Jesse but then I remembered that we're talking about Remedy. They always bring great character stories and I'm certain we'll quickly get into playing as Dylan.
What I'm still worried about is that the trailer made it look more like a typical dumbed down souls-like button-smashing fighting style game for the sake of getting the masses to buy it (I don't tend to like most souls-like games). Control was fairly successful but it didn't appeal to the masses as much due to it having a more unique gameplay style than the typical console/pc game. I guess we'll see when we get our hands on it.
Yeah, that's it. It looks like just another DMC/hack'n'slash game in the Remedy-verse in a completely different style to Control. It sucks and I'm so disappointed in Remedy.
They clearly went in this direction to get the sales that the original didn't have. I still can't understand why so many gamers just say: "I never played it. It's been in my backlog for years". It's a brilliant game that deserves tons of praise. Like most other games it's got it's issues (repetitive spawned fights) but you can just leave the area without bothering if you don't need the resources or upgrades.
Meh.... I'll probably play this anyway since I love the weird reality-bending stuff in the Remedy-verse.
Here's why I absolutely support this new direction.
The soul of Control was not gameplay. It was the setting. The writing. The style. Mechanically as a third person shooter it was nothing extra to be honest. Yes, I prefer shooters compared to action games.
BUT.
People and teams burn out on doing the same thing over and over again, and that is why talent often leaves. For me, the most important thing is for the talent to stay at Remedy. They are a great studio. If they need to have more variety for that, then great, do it! Let them experiment. So long as it is a game made out of passion (and I think it is), then I am fine with it!
It's not just this game. I read that Remedy is moving in the direction of more "accessible" gameplay. I don't know what's going on inside Remedy's offices these days but it seems that they've decided to go for the mass-nonsense to make more money.

Totally agree. I honestly hated the combat in Control. It was fine in the beginning, but towards the end I really was annoyed by it, and for playing the DLCs I actually used trainers to speed through combat because I just didn't care anymore.
I also wasn't a fan of the combat in Quantum Break either. But Alan Wake 2 was fine.

True regarding Alan Wake 2 BUT I feel like it didnt do so great in sales because of being EPIC exclusive. I feel like a few literal million sales might have been lost in that alone. And I think they saw that too because this game had the Steam logo in the latest trailer shown.
I think they made the right choice. Go for stability while still being able to create what you want. No point in taking a risk, as audiences are fickle and Alan Wake isn't exactly a sure fire hit game. The original sold about 3 mil copies I think. Even Control sold only about 5 mil, and who knows how many of those are at a big discount.
And horror is a particularly risky genre with limited sales numbers.
SOMA is a fucking masterpiece and only sold about 1.3 mil.
Dead Space Remake only sold about 2 mil, and the original in 2008 had similar numbers.
Silent Hill 2 remake sold about 2.5 mil or so.
Only shit like Resident Evil reaches double digit numbers.
That just mean they got greedy and took a gamble. They didn't trust the playerbase and decided for a hot fat sum of cash from Epic.
They had no choice. It was either Epic or no game at all. The costs were about 56M€ if I'm correct. You don't get such investment from everywhere if you want even a bit of creative freedom. Projects like Alan Wake II ('twin peaks', gameplay...) can be extremely risky and turn out to be a total flops.

Resident Evil sells because it's more grounded than the rest. It's something that Remedy should be doing. Their best game is still original Max Payne. All their later games are filled with worst science fiction cliches out there. Microsoft ruined them, I think, by simply throwing cash at them and allowing them to do quiky stories that interested nobody.

Resident Evil is one of the most iconic PlayStation brands. Even the worst titles featuring this name got some popularity. Remedy and studios as small as they are have no chance of competing with the brands of this scale. I do agree that Remedy should probably make (if they already aren't) a new Max Payne game with less 'wierd stuff' and more streamlined gameplay.
