But he isn't wrong. There was plenty of potential even with the minimal effort they put into this mess. Sadly, this is the case with most pvp survival/extraction games, the potential is never fully exploited.
We will never get a properly made and polished game in this genres.
Even at a 70% refund rate they'd have made a killing
They did, so why they did. Make scam game -> release -> take bag of money and leave -> success.
People keep acting like "they didn't make millions on millions, so they failed".
It's two guys. (of who gets the money left after folding, bankruptcy = not pay anyone on staff owed)
Even if they made 8 million in sales, and only made a million after all refunds and such. If you wanted to do something for a year and only made a million, would you consider it a failure?
Lets say its 1/2 a million only. Shiiit. If you years ago you told me: Do this you can payoff your house, your cars, and have enough left over to not work for 10 years.
I wouldn't go "nah, that sounds like failure to me".

And? Not everyone will refund. They SHOULD but 100% wont.
Plus bankruptcy (why I think they did it so quick before the whole masses could refund). Refunds/due backs are also considered in a businesses out due.
Calculate assets and owes, work out what of those can be paid with assets, the rest is out wrote.
Im sure they had an LLC or such that separated their money from the business. They each are walking away with more than any of use could dream to make over year of work, and surprised if it was even a year worth to make what it was.

People do it all the time in business unfortunately, just rarer in game game businesses.
And you can't go to jail for being bad at your job. Plausible cause they can argue exists, even if it's not the reason. It can't be proven enough it's WASN'T just that, to claim it was criminal fraud to the point of conviction.
Now a class action CAN be filed, as that's not based on criminality. But jail is for criminal charges. And like I said, sucking at your job of making a thing isnt criminal.
And unless you have evidence they did it on purpose (non circumstantial criminal evidence, not just hunches and grievances that it seems obvious) it's not a jailable offense.
Edit: Plus with it being early access, most cards are off the table. That leaves a TON of wiggle room for them to imply it was not a finished product, most the features people expected was not in yet. Which if they was or wasn't planned to be added (or they just lied and didn't plan to work on it anymore at all) is impossible to prove.

I imagine the first week of DayZ Standalone vividly. It ran worse than The Day Before. In fact you could just about play 15 min before the game would crash guaranteed. It ran at like 25fps, lagged like hell, buggy as hell too. In fact might have been the buggiest video game experience I've ever had. And I have hundreds of hours in Star Citizen.
The Day Before would probably be "decent" after 8 years of development as well.

There's always potential, my poop could be a diamond with enough work and pressure.
"There's potential" is such a non-statement.
I watched enough streams to know that if they put some effort into it, this could have been an above the average survival game. Because they copied good elements from specific games (The Division world, Tarkov systems, etc.) But they were clearly aiming for a scam from the beginning.
Seeing Bohemia Interactive trying to troll is such a pathetic attempt, given their game is still a mess 10+ years after release and the development based on a popular mode was hell.
I don't think we'll ever get a proper online survival game.

so an asset flip that was from the start intended as a scam has "potential" but dayz is just a
mess?
well i dont care about dayz but why even think that this piece of garbage had any potential didnt you play it or see any gameplay? kinda weird
I don't think I said that DayZ didn't have potential. I just commented on Bohemia's audacity to act like the good guys just because they compared themselves with some scammers.
The game is trash, I just said that it copied some good elements from other games just to half-ass them. I would love to say something like The Division's world with actual survival mechanics (and of course first person camera).
