Picked this up now at discount. I remember this getting average reviews which is crazy. It's an excellent game.. like a fusion of Portal 2 with a semi-open world linear FPS, the linear sections are really good. Excellent art-direction, fantastic graphics, interesting puzzle mechanics, interesting level design, good gun-play and upgrade system, I really like all the enemies and AI as well.
It's only real weakness is the annoying main character dialog, this has got to be one of the best solo FPS games in 4-5 years.

its the russia ukraine situation, people lost their fucking minds over the devs being from RU. game looked great, hopefully will be cracked soon enough
if u mean only sp games, then doom eternal, cp 2077, maybe deathloop has better gunplay but not a better game. need to look up a list to see what else got released
for mp nothing beats apex crazy high octane gameplay
Always good to post your comparisons as Ireally didn't like those games. I only played an hour of cyberpunk so I need to revisit it at some point.
I think it also launched with trademark 2023 performance problems but I haven't experienced any of that with settings cranked.
The parkour especially at the start (the important part) is a bit janky but in latter sections it works great. I like the open world in this game as it's entirely optional how much time you need to spend with it, there's no dumb mandatory ?'s littered on the map you can just drive from linear section to linear section if you want.
I wasn't sold on movement at first either but now I think run + 2 short dashes is decent / better than what we typical get with console focussed development.
I really like the enemies ( on Armageddon difficulty) they look and feel like robots.. at the start it takes 4-5 power hits to kill the shittest bot which makes sense. With power ups you reach typical shooter difficulty. It just works lore wise. The locational damage stuff is cool as well, you can sheer half it's head or body off with a shotgun
Puzzle sections have enough mechanics to arguably put it on par with portal in terms of mechanics. Collecting door keys does get a bit tired but there are enough bosses and puzzles between to make it interesting.. what else are you gonna do but block players way until they collect an object?
If we talk shooters overall then I would say there are some very good retro shooter in last 5 yearss. In terms of AAA I don't reckon there is much better though, Prey was last good AAA solo game before this and that's immersive sim.
If it's a first game from Russian studio it's very impressive, look forward to their next game which would likely be a sequel if this one sells decently.
I've got to go with not enough time testing for this as its gratuitous in this game. Overlapping audio, all these modern FPS are guilty of this Prey, Bioshock etc.
You have audio logs, triggered audio events.. why space them so close together that they almost always overlap each other. there's 30-40 hours of game, plenty of time to pace those things out. At times in this game you have glove, compass log, some villian, and a NPC puzzle robot all trying to talk at once... very annoying and very easy to fix.
fair enough, I think I've beaten all bosses either first try or 1-2 deaths or hardest difficulty. I will say I unlocked the movement skills first before anything else, I think is essential for all bosses and a lot of combat situations.
first dlc was alright, more of the same, around 2h, that goose kept appearing and made fun of the main character was such a strange thing that came out of nowhere
