Good luck Laughing Even the DIRECTOR was so offended by the final version of #2 that he walked out of the premier, heh. If you positively have to watch #2, make sure it's the "Renegade Edition" - which the director released afterwards to TRY and fix some of the hilarious bullshit in the film.

Well it's not the director that cuts the final product, all the footage is sent off and it's done externally, so most of the time the director doesn't see the final product until screening. That's why there's so many DC releases for home sales afterwards.

most (decent) director's actually negotiate this Smile

but in this case...
Quote:
In the renegade version, a documentary following the film has the filmmakers explain why the original theatrical release contradicted the first film. According to them, the inflation in Argentina had risen so high during filming that the film's insurance company started to take creative control, and made a film they thought would make the most money.

Hahaha, really? I guess Russell Mulcahy wasn't considered good enough grinhurt

@Stormwolf

I guess you're in luck if you plan to watch Highlander 2 then -- since the HD/BluRay release is actually the director's cut and removes the bullshit about aliens.

@nouseforaname:

Good god...

Russell Mulcahy was so frustrated at being locked out of production that he tried to have his credit changed to "Alan Smithee". However, a section of his contract forbade him from publicly attacking the film before it was released; the producers informed him that if he had his credit changed they would consider it an attack and launch a lawsuit against him.

'Christopher Lambert' was so disgusted with the re-written script that he wanted to drop out of production, but due to contractual obligation he was forced to finish the film.

See? That alone speaks volumes and I always wondered why the fuck Christopher Lambert would have agreed to play in such a bastardised movie.

Tom Cruise To Lead "Highlander" Reboot?

Quote:
Tom Cruise is reportedly being courted to star in a reboot of the "Highlander" franchise at Summit Entertainment says The Wrap.

VFX supervisor and second-unit director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is set to make his feature directorial debut on the big-budget project. The reboot is expected to go back to the original 1986 film which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod and Sean Connery as his mentor Juan Ramirez. Summit is said to be keen on Cruise playing the role Connery did.

The story followed an immortal Scottish swordsman on a quest for revenge against a barbarian who has chased him across time as they battle for 'The Prize'. The franchise that spawned ultimately consisted of five films, two TV series, several novels and various animated projects.

A Cruise representative says the project one of many on offer to him and he is "far from talks". Another insider says Summit is not in negotiations with Cruise, but didn't deny he was the top choice to co-star alongside a still upcast major young star as MacLeod.

Justin Lin as previously attached to direct but will now executive produce. Melissa Rosenberg, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the script while Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis will produce.

I would love to see this midget pulling off a Scottish accent. Laughing

this is one franchise that just. doesnt. need. a. reboot.

every movie has been incredibly disconnected. every movie has just made shit up as it went along with little concern for any continuity or canon.

just make a new highlander movie... by all means call it 'highlander' without a subtitle, and just do your own thing like every single one of the previous highlander movies have done... theres no NEED to bring back connor as a new actor. NO. NEED.

Hmm, actually, if there's one that might warrant a reboot, it's the Highlander "series" (imo). As you say, they are all disconnected and contradicting each other, so a decent movie series wound't sound that bad. As long as they have Queen in the soundtrack, I won't complain.

Lionsgate is officially moving forward with its long-gestating fantasy reboot of the “Highlander” franchise.

According to Deadline, the studio will launch sales of the film at the AFM next month with a 2024 production start set for the film which will star Henry Cavill.

The big-budget film is said to cost “north of $100 million” with Stahelski previously dubbing it “John Wick with swords”.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
