Well, technically yes and no

They ditched native TAA and you only got DLAA and FSR2 Native now

Apparently FSR2 sucks at native tho
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/alan-wake-2-fsr-2-2-vs-dlss-3-5-comparison/

Absolutely no surprise there. Can't blame people for being cynical these days tho

Also:

Code:
m_bVignette: set this to "false" to disable vignetting
m_bDepthOfField: set this to "false" to disable depth of field
m_bLensDistortion: set this to "false" to disable lens distortion
Once you've disabled those three, and set film grain (m_bFilmGrain) and motion blur (m_eMotionBlur) to disabled in the settings, the game will look MUCH sharper. This will help upscalers do their job and result in a much more stable image, without jitter.

RTX 4090 provides next to cinematic experience with Path Tracing without DLSS and FG. Smile

The point was setting the 3070, a 3 year old mid range GPU, to about the same settings as a PS5 and getting better performance, trying to establish that this isn't a bad port or unoptimized game

Besides, do you actually play games or just cynically shit over forums all day? Laughing Laughing

Upscalers are pretty good these days, though DLSS certainly better than FSR2, which they didn't use because that's not what the PS5 can do - DLSS (2.5.1+) Balanced at 1440p is more than okay

did you already forget the days where, to even get that 60fps, we set resolution to some more than blurry 720p or lower shit? or lowered the settings till it looked like a gen older game?

the MSAA days are over, too many games use jittery shader effects that are noisy as shit without TAA, and neither MSAA or FSAA were ever good at temporal aliasing, and transparency effects had to rely on stuff like alpha to coverage which was far from perfect

upscalers and TAA are a fucking boon, so is VRR (gsync/freesync)

man the things we did back in the day and games looked and ran like shit anyway..

now things are pretty smooth even at 60fps thanks to 120hz+ displays with gsync, aliasing is a thing of the past, especially temporal aliasing, and the techniques don't cost FPS but actually increase FPS while maintaining native quality

I don't wanna go back to before, but then I'm clearly not old and dull enough yet to have drifted into the whole "things were better back in the day" shtick

That's... kinda pointless.

Some will be sad about this, others happy, but nothing will change practically in the industry or in the way we interact with the games on our preferred platform.
_

Also, the "shitting" we usually do here is on lazy-ass-incompetent developers OR corporate greedy practices, and LESS on what the creative game is or could have been.

Many, MANY games, from a creative point, deserve praise. But they all are spoiled by retarded developers and ignorant (project) managers.

gameplay seem like utter garbage. e.g you see a body and the game shows you which points to investigate on it with big icons, you can't investigate yourself and discover clues.

modern gaming in a nutshell, made for idiots Laughing oh well, black woman in the lead + nice graphics so it'll get those 10/10's from the usual suspects.

yeah. Im just at the beggining, but holly shit. It feels like a joke so far. You're just following instructions and prompts what to do. If this is how this new, "investigative" gameplay side will be until the end, my god. How did they end up thinking this is fun or exciting to play ? I sure hope this is only some misguided belief that it's a good intro.

Well, installed and gave it a bit of a go to view performance, since I can't actually play it now at work. So far, on 2560x1600 with everything maxed, path tracing and all that, dlss on quality the game runs ok on my 4080 laptop. It ranges from around 90fps at the highest to as low as 50, with dips during some in-game "cutscenes" to as low as 30.

Hand holding is TOO much! I like Sam Lake in the game but when he talks it feels like Max Payne. Not sure this is my type of game YET? I'm pretty sure it isn't . But I will give it another go....
The first thing I did was download it from Epic and then moved it to another SSD and cracked it. The game didn't like my 3rd party overlay and wouldn't start. But that was the Epic game exe. Once I cracked it and sent the game exe. to the desktop it was fine!!

I’m loving it so far. Yeah the start seems slow but it’s good to be back in bright falls and soaking in the atmosphere. Plus the graphics are top notch maxed out with PT and HDR.

Yeah, so far it is very hand-holdy, but I'm hoping that is just the start to get players used to how things work. Can't really say much for the gameplay cause I haven't played enough, but I'm not a fan of the constant back and forth with the mind palace, and I do hope they explain at least to some extent why Saga has powers. The voice acting feels off for the 2 FBI agents, at least to me, maybe intentional, I dunno... There's other minor things, like some character's body language didn't really reflect how he was speaking, but he was just a rando on the street, so I dunno, not that bothered, but it did stand out, especially when the fidelity of everything is high like this.

Constantly getting this shit at the beginning: Fence value is UINT64_MAX (device removed): due to removed device. Game crashes and displays this error. No matter what settings i choose, it persists.

Just starting the autopsy, i'm treating the beginning as a tutorial, hopefully the clues will be more challenging later.
I'd welcome an FBI investigation game without the supernatural setting, with harder difficulty, might not be a big enough market for that , though.

Playing on low graphics, runs fine sofar, will probably crank up the graphics when i see how it handles action.

Have also more or less forgotten Alan Wake, had to google the ending to see if I remembered it. Should probably done a playthrough before playing 2.

Edit: And using manuscript scraps to upgrade weapons seems like a really weird mechanic.

I've got a Intel Core i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz , 16 gb ram, GTX 1660 super and a SSD, and can play it just fine on lower settings. Still looks good, but of course without all the bells and whistles.

That graph is for 4K + Path Tracing though Very Happy You can make it run on less than optimal configurations like Asgarion reported Razz

@garus Thanks, that'll help !
