Done a few missions in Act 3 so far and dunno, feel it's quite strong. The submarine mission was great, disable the steel watch, fighting lorroakan etc. plus some minor ones, all were quite strong. Actually I think I enjoy it more than Act 2 which I was a bit meh on tbh.
Overall the game is fantastic IMO and I've never been a fan of RPGs like this but this one sucked me in quite quickly.
The most annoying thing really for me is the... narrator lady, has that weird inflection in her voice that irritates me a bit, but that's just me.
Story is pretty great until act 3 where it completely falls apart Larian did the same thing they always do polish the first act for reviewers and the rest is unfinished as fuck, definitive edition will fix it down the road.
Don't get me wrong it's not even a content thing i know they cut a lot of content but there is still tons of it and yet it stills feels incomplete. Not to mention cutting most of the endings was just a shit decision even by Larians low standards for endings they are terrible now on par with ME3s endings imho.
The problem is the game is just to long. It's the acting, writing and cinematics that make the game. But that's not enough for 100+ hours of gameplay. 80% of the game is isometric exploring and looting. Also combat get's a bit old when you know the ropes.
So for me act 3, being long as fuck, was a grind and you're not gonna quit either so far in the game.
I also thought Act 3 was fine. In fact I thought it was a lot better than Act 2. Underdark and Shadow Cursed lands were interesting as settings, but I didn't feel them.
Act 3 had some really good quests like the submarine quest or turning off the steel watch.
The only thing that I felt was off, was the boss fights were unbalanced. Either too easy (Lorroakan) or too hard (Ansur). The final battle was bullshit as well, had to go back a save, respec for that fight specifically and then finish it.

Act3 pacing is all off. The game shouldn't slow to a crawl in the final act, should be the opposite. And TBH the original game was guilty of this as well, you go around to all these small towns and podunk areas then you find baldurs gate and it's like holy crap there's too much to do, all at once. I would have cut out of a lot of content from the city itself, and expanded on exploring/infiltrating the cult. There wasn't much memorable stuff to do in the city proper itself.
Larian did the same in DOS2 so I wasn't at all surprised by how BG3 was. Arx should have been much smaller in DOS2.
For whatever reason in RPGs it's just content for the sake of content. The game must be 150+!+! hOuRs instead of just a cohesive awesome story.
I thought this game was really good btw, but I was done come the last act and the last act's pacing was all over the place. They could have dropped a handful of storylines and just polished the good ones and it would have been a stronger ending. -20 hours but quality over quantity would have made the game a 10.
They shouldn't have bothered with the memberberries and just focussed on the new characters because they were doing a good job with them.
Spoiler:
- Sarevok's addition was pointless and cheapened the new character (assassin chicka), totally unnecessary.
- I didn't bother with Minsc's storyline, meh.
- The elf guy in the tower bugged out on me so I don't know if that was any good.
- They didn't need really need Jahiera at all, although it did work.
- The angry green ladies people was pretty uneventful / poor and could have been given more love. Also the almost unavoidable -6 stats with no notification should never have been in the shipped version of the game.
Loving it so far. Breaking that woman's instrument, letting the kid get bitten, freeing the captured prisoner in the Druid's camp... there's enough of a difference so far to make it worthwhile. MUCH more than other games that offer 'evil' playthroughs. Can't wait to recruit that evil person later on as well, the one you miss on a good playthrough.
I remember reading comments about the evil playthrough hardly being any different, but I think there's loads of differences.
Some pretty evil shit too. Like telling some parents that their kid who was taken away is dead, then joking saying that they alive, when the kid is actually dead
Getting rid of Wyll and Karlach was also very pleasant. Not giving a damn is pretty cathartic in a game like this!
TBH, it's annoying to be a Yarrer these days when games release half baked and new updates come every 2-3 weeks and have to download 10+ GB each time because they are files and not patchers. This game is perfect example of that, tho they slowed down on patches and it's probably safe enough to download some latest release.
