Let's stop looking for a relase of the game ... let's start looking for a release of the guide !
I want to see a full map of the area, I want to read the preface ... I want my fucking oblivion fix !

Has anyone layed his hands on a dlable version of this guide ? (if yes, do not give it here. Just tell us. This is not a request !)

The speedtree stuff is amazing =D Jeez suddenly it feels like Oblivion might run well after all, yes i know they are two different engines, but hey if speedtree can get their stuff to run so damn well, Bethesda should also!

Yeah Speedtree is quite amazing. One of it's virtues is of course the speed( Smile ) of tree creation. It has some really sophisticated algorithms that will take less CPU.

Problem is, that in the speedtree demo there is nothing but graphics. In game, you've got AI, sound,graphics,animations,physics....

Just so you know, they aren't using speed tree's renderer, so that most likely is not an accurate portrait of how Oblivion will run.

Still, speed tree is fun to mess around with Smile

glass was the best light-weight stuff in morrowind, and yea them new glass swords look even sexier. I hope this time if u kill sum1 with whos got a glass swor on them, u see it on them, instead of having to click 'inside' their body to get it.

what I mean is that the Devs have said they use speed tree to create the trees, but not to render the trees in the game. (They are drawn along with the rest of the world using the Gamebyro engine)

If I'm wrong about this, I apologize.. but I'm pretty sure that is what I heard/read.

Gamebyro engine? Is that Bethesda's own creation and is that the same one they used in Morrowind?

Bethesda started from scratch with Oblivion, so it's not the same used in Morrowind, no.

Upcoming PC games 2009 and onwards

It is the company that bought the folks that made NetImmerse (Morrowind's Engine), Bethesda licensed the Gamebyro engine and modified it heavily to get what we're seeing with Oblivion. (including adding speed tree and face gen)

Anyway, here's a quote from that developer diary:

The resulting shapes are very similar to what the artists normally would painstakingly create by hand, polygon by polygon, within a modeling program. Perhaps best of all, the tree objects created save the artists even more time by being innately rigged for animation. After the programmers made our engine render and animate the trees, artists were able to quickly place their models in the game and carefully observe the results in real-time.

They use speed tree to create the models, and then place them in the game, which renders the trees and animates them Smile

edit: Here's the link to Gamebryo's Page

http://www.emergentgametech.com/index.php?source=gamebryo

Morrowind and Oblivion are listed
