they made dandelion gay? why do they have to change how the characters are ? is it that hard to bring some characters outside of the lore and change them however they want ?
Baginski said recently that if Witcher is renewed Ciri will be the main character.

The show pretty much has nothing to do with Witcher outside the character names and Geralt's costume etc. It only sucks because its unlikely we will ever get another, movie / tv show of it again.
This show was so crap I'm not even that interested in a Witcher 4.
is this not the same for every show thats in development right now? clickbait much?
Clickbaity? Yes!
But given the circumstances I'd say there is about a 50% chance they're gonna use the strike as pretext to really shelve it for good.
Liam Hemsworth would profit most - dodge a bullet and still get some of the money
on so many levels, this was such an easy slam dunk show and opportunity. Shame these people will likely continue working in the industry.
That's the worst part. They killed off star wars, most super heroes, Witcher, and they're working on killing off lord of the rings. i bet LOTR will be as defiled as star wars in 10 years..
these fuckers knows those shows has a certain audience and they get a kick out of completely fucking them over. also an opportunity to feed their egos with self-inserts and politics.
edit: i just read (IGN, lol..) that one of the writers said it PAINS them that they HAVE to change the story in this way, that they don't like it. Uhhh ok. so they're admitting either Netflix or some third party decides it MUST be woke. Who knows. It's easy to play the blame game when things doesn't work out.
This franchise very much did not suit dumbing down for a Marvel/Disney durr audience. It's laughable how bad the end result really is. I can see why how this abomination happened. The difference here is that all the material to tell a great story was right in front of them
- Many short stories that could easily serve as a full season of content.
- Slavic mythology.. a real differentiator for fantasy series completely dropped.
- A massively popular movie star that also knew all the content through and through.
- A massively successful gaming franchise that had already done justice with the source material, artwork and world building.
- The franchise really does include geo-politics (last I heard GOT was a reasonably popular show), why the hell would you completely ditch that material ?
- Just tonally to completely shift away from the hugely successful games created was a huge mistake.
I'm not sure if high vs. low fantasy is what I'm trying to describe but I find Witcher universe more akin to a GOT universe. There is magic, monsters, dragons etc. but to me it's very restrained and it feels more rooted in a believable medieval world. The other thing with GOT, the weakest parts are the magic/dragons etc. the things that enthral us are the politics, asshole characters, betrayals etc. and witcher has those dilemma's and flawed characters as well.
well not this show, this show has a hundred mages casting spells blah blah action blah ZZZzzzz
I think the Witcher universe is definitely high fantasy, but its themes are as adult as GoT. They could have used the fantasy element as unique selling point to market, and still keep all the politics. The storyline in the books moves a lot faster than GoT too, much less bs basically
They could have copied it quite literally, I think, which they did more or less with season 1, but then everything was ditched in s02.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
Although the show never did the fascinating and complex Witcher universe any justice because of all the strong Netflixian poisonous gas clouds, cheap concessions and assassins from the Slums of Deever City, I found S01 decent-ish overall and even S02 felt watchable enough despite its issues and the silly deviations. S03 however, that's where the mask completely comes off
I honestly couldn't even finish it, thus joining The Wheel of Time, Shadow and Bone, and Rings of the Power Rangers at the crooked worm-eaten table of currentyear's pear-shaped fantasy shows. Farewell Chad Henry of Rivia, you did a respectable job despite everything and tried to salvage the unsalvageable, but alas.
could have been a new game of thrones, finding new fans for it and boosting game sales, book sales, merch... creating hype for more games etc.
A friend of mine watched it with his kids, but they're out. They're not people they managed to turn into fans, instead they might have made them lose interest in it i imagine there are many like that.
These current year fantasy shows all completely fail at world building.
There are no maps and no sense for distances. Characters just teleport around.
There is little geographical difference - all villages and towns are populated by the same diverse mix of peoples. Also very important: different locations need different soundtracks.
All use similar post-processing so they visually look the same.
I think of Lord of The Rings - let's say Rohan - I hear the music, see the landscape, see the uniforms, I know where it is on the map. Same for Game of Thrones.
New shows - nothing.
