Xcom Original 1.4 + The X-Com Files Mod.

From disappointment in JA3 I started playing this mod https://github.com/SolariusScorch/XComFiles for the original X-Com and would have to say I don't think someone can make a better game. The mod contains essentially the original game but wrapped in a prequel that goes to massively expanded Original Endgame.

You also need the original game files: GOG or Google.

Expanded lore.
Massively expanded tech tree.
Engine improvements brought on from the OpenXcom Expanded engine.
Expanded items across the board
Expanded enemy types, friendly combatants, expanded aliens and tech.
Human factions etc.
Overhauled accuracy and ballistics system.

You start a few years prior to original XCom and are tasked with investigating and building the X-Com agency. Once you reach that stage your into mid-game fending off the alien invasion. It all feels right and fits with the original X-Com theme. The mod author is the same guy that made "The Final Mod" except this is just his creativity gone wild. I don't think you can improve the gameplay of this game for squad based TBS, all you can do is make it in modern 3D which no developer is willing to do so this is the best TBS we will get.

Aren't XCOM and UFO EU the same game, just a different name (US vs Europe naming) ?

Pretty subjective, I don't think it's that hard until you get Late game and those mech walkers turn up, also the PSI control mechanics of the OG game were pretty unfair/unforgiving. Ofc you can look for stats in soldiers to negate it, on early game avoid night combat, kneel soldiers = win game Smile

I reckon i've lost about 6 soldiers so far in the mod. Again good design, you can lose soldiers and recover easily. Attack dogs are fucking awesome, so pick up an early atk dog with combat armour.

On early game,
- Mag-lights and upgraded flares for night combat.
- Kneel your soldiers for defence.
- Have an atk dog
- look at Logistics as an earlier research project.
- On weapons, I've avoided light calibre autofiring weps, also avoided melee.. but post back if you find something cool I've missed.

And yeah, @Hubu and JA3 dissapointed folk - Honestly try this mod and ask yourself if you think any dev is going to make something as good again.

Btw, does anyone remember Soldiers At War - awsome squadbased/turnbased ww2 games.


shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
