Had a lot of fun with JAG2 this one doesn't resonate the same, healing, inventory, UI, graphics, small maps, just not as good imo

Reparing in JAG2 you would simply set a 'repair guy' and he would repair everything, here you need to set items to be repaired.

You could buy cool guns and items at the webshop in JAG2 and have them delivered, that seems to be gone I am not sure how to buy anything now.

etc etc.. Sad

Won't have the time to play it for a few days, but there's no Bobby Ray's?

Nope, buying weapons and cool gadgets was half the fun in JAG Smile makes me wanna replay it right now.

Honest question.. why do the new iterations of these massive cult following titles change the gameplay? Why not just make JA2/XCOM enemy unknown with real time units in a 3d engine?

Just think, there are probably 20-30 game releases that all try to reinvent this formula dead and buried. Classic X-com still better than rng-xcom as well.

Just a bit disappointed to see this game also isn't really like JA2..

Still haven't played it, but how can you fuck up a proven recipe?
3D? Dumbing down for... whatever audience that never ever even heard about JA, yet alone played it to bits?
Where's the good math, here?

Maybe, if it's lukewarm but heavily moddable, it might end up like HOI4 for me.

HOI4 + all DLCs? Hot fucking garbage.
HOI4 + DLC + BlackICE mod? Now we have the game as it should have been. Now worth every cent, yet no thanks to the official HOI4 team.

You never know what to believe with performance. Some whine and complain about performance being absolutely horrendeous. Turns out 80 fps is like 40-60 too little. It's 120-144hz or nothing! And some have brains so slow that 30 fps is just perfecto! Ala Killercrocker. But he's far from alone in that regard.

yeah I see that on steam review sometimes... many people just have no idea what their system is capable of, or should be capable of, so you get tons of conflicting info.

here there's definitely something wrong though I'd say. At least at default options

ryzen 3700x + 3080
2560x1440

when I first launched the game I had 40 fps in the main menu with 90% GPU utilization
that was mostly on max settings which was default
so I reduced some stuff to high and medium that seemed sensible, had around 50 ingame in the first mission with the GPU still going nuts

supposedly it should have DLSS available but it's not there in my menu

updated to the latest nvidia driver (mine was maybe 1-2 months old) but still no DLSS and same performance

friend of mine I tried playing coop with had it running at ~30 fps on his 2060

sucks that you only get 1 custom merc (the host) in coop
I also read autosaves overwrite manual saves? can't confirm
other than that, I thought it was fine, controlled fine, fairly snappy, shooting felt pretty good.

wonder about that too. Maybe hubris? I'm thinking of the classic "You think you want this but you don't"
or maybe recreating it the same over 3 years is just boring work so nobody wants to do it? But execs wouldn't care about that... I dunno.
I wish more good old games just got straight up cloned with just changes in setting, story, characters, environments, etc etc rather than trying to reinvent the wheel and failing again and again.
How many years did we have to wait for that proper dungeon keeper clone, war for the underworld? and it had to be fucking kickstarted...

@Surray DLSS 2 should be under AA settings, then reduce "actual" resolution setting as needed.
Shadows and reflections to medium helps a lot regarding performances.

I am enjoying the game so far but ...

Where is the pause / activate combat mode feature ? Mad
Where is the hit probability indicator ? Mad Mad
Since when Fox wants to wear clothes ? Mad Evil or Very Mad Mad

Hopefully patches/mods will fix these little annoyances, game is nice though. Smile

not for me I guess!

 Spoiler:

I went ahead and set everything to low just to try, and performance increased like 8 fold (over 200 fps in main menu compared to 40 on default)
I guess some settings in there have an insane impact. I did not expect this.
now it looks like shit but at least I don't have an extra heater running which I really don't need this super hot weekend.

That's weird.
Some said Intel XESS thingy are working better than DLSS in this game anyways, give it a try.

Just a heads up:

according to pcgamingwiki:
Quote:
Issues unresolved

If the shadows setting is set to Ultra, regardless of the frame limiter or V-sync, the framerate is reduced by 30 FPS.[1]

Man, I want to like this but it just feels so soulless and janky. I don't really undestand how line of sight works or where it is safe to sneak or not. Guns are peashooters and even if I get the opener it feels like it's so hard to kill just one enemy while unloading all your squad's action points on them.

I don't remember much about the OG JA games anymore, but tried the FLT release (which worked OK for me, no issues), and it feels so bland. I did the first couple of missions and there's pretty much no story. The same VO is played constantly. All cheap mercs can be ignored as they don't hit a fucking thing even if they have to shoot an elephant in front of their eyes. There doesn't seem to be much to do else. Just go to an area, kill whatever is in that sector, and move to the next. And after some days you have to renegotiate contracts. Some fun could only be had due to the AI shooting right through their own or grenading themselves to bits.

I am stuck in the game, flea town, with the mine next to it, enemy just swarms you. In one compolete turn I am happy to get two hits in, they just shoot over half the map and through evey bit of cover along the way. Even went to forgiving mode, but it helps shit. They keep swarming and hitting you almost every shot.

Just did that mission. You mean the market part of flea town, right?
I attacked at night, sniper in the right hand house roof, rest on the left side.
Start action on left side, use liberal amounts of explosives (Barry is a big help).
Got 3 wounded but no big problem.

Stuck as well, at the last part of the Haunted Manor mission.

Enemy comes from nowhere, rush on you from far away and almost one shot you with ... knifes, machete and shotguns.

Whereas a triple pinpoint head shot and they are still standing up in front of you ... Rolling Eyes

Reloaded 8 time in a row and I just can't pass whatever strategy I try.

This is a joke right now, I will wait for a 1.13 updates ... Evil or Very Mad

was gonna try this but that rng nonsense like missing shots pointblank, purposefully frustrating mechanics for the masochists out there don't seem appealing to me.
I play games to have a certain level of predictable outcome if the circumstances make sense.

Yup, same here.
Plus some other things like global timers and heavily relying on overwatch (from what I've seen), are old & tired mechanics, in my opinion.

So far I enjoy it. My main gripes are stealth implementation. How every enemy has automatic weapons and small maps. The combat is really close to how it worked in original JA2. You just don't remember it.

There is more weight put on pre-fight postioning than in OG. It reminds me the map from JA2 with whorehouse where I choose to kill the gang ruling over city.

I like it as well. The combat is solid, the graphics are decent and the management and progression are quite satisfying.

I have a few gripes (so far):
- You can rarely buy ammo, no way to order it which is a weird implementation for a game revolving around a mercenary company
- The UI has its problems
- The stealth system needs some improvements
- The performance needs some tinkering

I really enjoy it aswell, Haunted mansion went fine for me, maybe it's merc/weapon setup?
I have 2 silenced snipers with modded weapons(Dragunov/mauser) that generally headshot/oneshot most enemies(on normal), I rarely need to savescum either.
A hint on that mission is to find all the mines but not disarm before going into the cellar, I had disarmed them all but could see that making it easier.
