Yeah, probably much more similar to FO4+with 76 "features/mechanics" which aren't in FO4, and other stuff aswell. I can even bet we'll see lots reused assets too (the signature ugly and crappy clouds and LOD textures are there aswell ).
By the showcase last sunday, I did notice that the weapon modding thing is basically identical to Fallout (categories like barrels, muzzle, mags, and so on), even the legendary system from FO4 seems to be in place where they loot a container and get an armor piece with legendary effects similar to the previous game.
It's getting more and more obvious that it's "core" is just a Fallout in space rather than anything else entirelly.
That's an interesting point of view, if Beth really did go the extra mile and put some real effort for such things, it could turn out very well. It's not that they didn't had the time to do it tho, "25 years in the making"
It's too bad they don't seem to have looked at games like
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Elden Ring
Mario 64 and basically all other 3D Mario games (yes, look at some of its design/mechanics, its fantastic, its fun/engaging, i can tell the Elden Ring devs have played a lot of Mario).
Also the new Armored Core VI and Zelda (though they're too new to take inspiration from, but they both seem to do level design the right way where it looks engaging and fun).
Why don't we have megastructures that stretches for miles into the sky here.. Hell, even ELEX did level design somewhat more interesting than what Bethesda manages, even though its similarly too grounded for its own good.
It's like they don't dare to do something different than what they've done since the start. "but we did! look we made the mountains 4x the size of what they were in Morrowind, some of the structures are now twice as tall!" Cool, how about instead making it 20x or 50x and maybe things will begin to feel different from before.

I don't particularly like that game, but the level design is just wow.. its amazing, feels really epic in comparison to anything Bethesda has put out. It's a game any dev that looks for level design should look into.
For me the primary weakness to all their games is the story / main quest line, this is true of every open world game except W3 and maybe they tried the same thing in Cyberpunk but didn't get open world right.
W3 main quest line is as polished as a full blown linear game except set in an open world. The things that happen in Bethesda main quest line are no different to filler rat fetch quests. The most interactivity you get is standard NPC dialog, or a really shitty one time basic animation.
This game could honestly have a mass effect / star control level story in it if they wanted + open world usual Bethesda fare. Then effort is effort, gamer is happy with exact same game with some slight visual improvements, why bother?
They are calling out the weather system as an exciting feature? I'm pretty sure there's like 20 mod teams that integrate that in the last 5 released beth games. Same with chargen, same with weapon modding, all of those things will have 30 flavours of mod to replace / improve.
What you can't change is a 30-50 hour kickass campaign and quest line to keep you invested in the world, and encourage modders to build new content. Even now years later I can remember W3 awesome scenes of the 3 hags, botchling quest line, dandelion stuff, the drunken mirror thing, the battle massacre etc.

Yeah, I'm cautiously avoiding Wikis, youtube "Did you notice this detail ?" videos about Elden Ring as I find it's a lot more fun stumbling on stuff and figuring the cryptic shit out by yourself - wouldn't have been nearly as rewarding if I knew everything beforehand.
As I wrote before, it doesn't seem like the game is all that ambitious in terms of scale or gameplay innovations (it does feel like Fallout in space with some No Man Sky elements throw on top). While you can't help but be a little disappointed, I'd rather have them do something that works, rather than go the Star Citizen route
R5 5600X - 3070FE - 16GB DDR4 3600 - Asus B550 TUF Gaming Plus - BeQuiet Straight Power 11 750W - Pure Base 500DX
it doesn't seem like the game is all that ambitious in terms of scale
i don't think there is a single bethesda game that wasn't massive in scale, in at least one respect. can't imagine this will be anything but massive myself.
now gameplay innovations, well, they never really did that. in that respect it does seem quite disappointing.. but at least it's not fucking RDR2 mission design/gameplay.
Make full in-engine cutscenes with quality animation to sell the story. I'd take 900 barren planets less of game content for a seriously well written and executed story. Kinda same with the ship combat, a 2d star map is fine than trying to execute 2 different games in 1.
At present Beth games are basically a AAA Garry's mod for me, but if the community isn't there meh.
Maybe someone in the industry can chime in. I think all the big companies do marketing builds to generate hype for the derps, then there is the actual retail build players get. Most customers can't tell the difference unless someone puts the utub together.
Most of it is that washed up filter, cut down some lighting and more cranked up subsurface scattering (makes skin look softer and less detailed in some cases).
they always put on a filter, same in the fallout's... its to tie it all together better, it kind of works but it also makes it look a bit dull. its one of the first things modders will remove.
preordered Collectors version with the watch. if this is like FO4 plus 76 in space - its already a winner. love the idea of universe exploration, ship and base building etc.
$500AUD for a CE watch. From years of collecting overpriced CEs, I can tell you with almost 100% certainty (like the FO4 CE pipboy) - it's going to be cheap garbage.
You'd be able to apply that UI skin to any number of decent watches for half the price
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
