I am SO DAMN HARD f*****g trying to make sure I have OFF! my nostalgia glasses and look at this as objective as I can but...

Damn, I can't seem to like it and call it a true Baldur's Gate game. For me, it's Divinity 3 Enhanced Ultra+ all over.

And worse part is... I wasn't very impressed with DOS2 either.

baldur's gate 2 was my favorite game of all time until Bloodborne came along and took it's spot, but it's still #2, and I'm not excited for this game at all Sad

it's likely a good game but it just doesn't feel right.

jk simmons is awesome though Very Happy

Anyone played beta? Is it similar to the Divinity games where the whole idea is to basically never let the AI take a turn? I.E. CC them every single turn or you're screwed? Shit gets old after a while.

Not too worried about this. For one i love Cthulhu mythos stuff so this is up my alley. And no, i haven't finished 1 and 2, but working on it. I do love Larians style, but the trailers didn't give me the goofy impression as many here claim, which is only right. Baldurs gate is a serious series.

^ Finally someone is aware of this.

Even the trailer is 'early access' with every scene looking like it's being confined in some tiny fragment of their toolset, like a virtual place with no sense of spaciousness.

At this point, thanks to their almost fanatical fanbois, Larian can release a diarrhea bull-crap shit and people would still say it looks and smells like roses... Rolling Eyes

I think the expectations are too high. Storywise it's pretty good - not amazing but miles ahead of DOS2 in terms of writing and direction. 5E implementation is getting there. I am really worried about the parts of the game that will not get through the EA period. Those will be rough. Laughing

Yeah... kinda.

But, how can they be different after BG2?!

@blackeyedboy Well, it's been how many years? 22? We know who and what Larian are as developers. It is very similar to the Fallout 3 situation. We got a Bethesda take on Fallout. The game was okay, some parts could even be called good. But it was not really Fallout anymore. This time we are getting a Larian take on BG.

Well... 22 years is more than enough to read Cervantes, Dostoevsky, Proust and the rest. So that you can... you know... learn how to fucking create memorable characters with a fantastic intrigue / dialogue.

And yea, we know Larian. They are experts at blowing barrels... Rolling Eyes

It's because all the available material showing their writing has given everyone ample proof that Larian hasn't evolved their writing which is still stuck in Divinity:OS mode. I like cosmic horror as well but Larian cannot handle serious writing at all and their humour is really hit or miss (more miss). This is more like D:OS 3 than BG3.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Just recently I was thinking that I should probably buy BG3 before they increase the price in Argentina. Then I checked today and it's now ARS$ 9.999 Mad

You should've though about that waay earlier. Admittedly they kept the old price long after Steam recommended prices changed, but it was obvious they would adjust it sooner or later.

So... the people just accept it or they just don't see it?

This game is virtually a DOS theme applied to another game. Which happens to be Baldur's Gate 3...

LOGIC:

1. Baldur's Gate 2 is one of my FAVORITE RPGs of all time
2. DOS2 is one of the few RPGs I REALLY dislike
3. Baldur's Gate 3 is like DOS3

For what it is worth - the writing here is different from DOS2. I wouldn’t say it’s great but it’s not dos2 cringe.

I think there's plenty to separate this from DOS, despite some mostly superficial similarities. Can't wait, personally! Very Happy

for make it turn based (cuz what, they couldnt do fucking active pause like every game and expansion and remake in the fucking franchise?) they can go fuck themselves. 1st one of their divnity rpgs was decent but kinda had that silly feeling, as someone mentioned - baldurs gives the same silly vibes for some reason. dunno, maybe gonna isodemo it after a year of patching or smth, fuck lyrican for taking away active pause combat, it was literally best of both worlds.
