exactly like expected imo. no way this was getting 9 or 10's.. doesn't mean it's bad though, a game like Gothic 2 averaged around 79 or so, for many that game is a classic.

One review is calling lack of guidance "design jank of obtuse objective". We'll have to see ourselves how it feels to play. A lof of modern jornos are too young or too consolized to know this game, so you'll have tastes shaped entirely by modern designs, with all the help, automation and streamlining available trying to crack a pc game from 94 where even the devs themselves were scratching their heads in a youtube walkthrough, wondering why did they made everything so difficult.
Its entirely possible to go too far into making everything as confusing as possible to the point of being annoying and nonsensical. The original Unreal, while good overall, has a fuckton of levels where you just endlessly go in circles to the point of wanting to kill the designers until you find your way by mistake.

Game feels indeed a 'bit' archaic.
Probably old farts will enjoy it, though. For nostalgic reasons.

It's not valid at all. This type of nonsense made it near impossible to design an actual PC game. You'll get floded on steam by people asking why is this game a pc game and they wont buy it until its turned into a console game.
Its horseshit.

Don't be a fool. Your opinion means nothing at the end of the day. Most people these days play with a gamepad, gamepad is expected. Don't exactly have to be a mensa candidate to realize that.

They just don't know it yet.

Most of the negatives state that the game has not enough QoL for today standards, whatever that means. Probably bad gamepad controls |

Fortunately thats not true. Whenever i see a dev wanting to put out an actual PC game, i try to convince them that the controller croud is just vocal on steam, but their numbers are tiny. I remember when XCom 2 launched, pc only for a year, m/kb only. When they announced 900K copies sold, i looked at the two biggest controller begging threads on steam, and they numbered 600 posts at that time. Devs should never cave if they want to design a game around m/kb which doesnt translate to a pad.
But nightdive seem to just plaster some borderline nonfunctional pad support into their games, without compromising the game itself, like it seems to be the case here, so its good. Same was with the Quake release, the pad "support" was the player moving forward and backwards when you push the stick, otherwise nothing was done to actually work with all the tons of assists required. They changed it with multiple patches later

Steam probably only registers people playing with controllers in big picture mode

I dont want to be sat at a desk when on down time. Used a mouse and keyboard since mid 80s and standardised console joypads were the best thing to ever happen to pc gaming in my opinion. Having to juggle a keyboard, mouse and controller (as i still frequently do) when comfortably lounging about on a bed or sofa is a pain.

Yeah, probably not enough hand-holding and melodramatic Sonytelling for the journofolx. They would have loved the alternative concept, though
