It's been like this for a while now. PC gamers cannot help get hyped and spend $3-4K a year on Nvidia for console games that don't run properly. The publishers know it will sell anyway, the hype overrides making a decent/working product.
what? game is running like shit and it still receives praise and will probably sell like hot cakes too...
"intentionally" or "unintentionally" doesnt make any difference at the end of the day
It's like judging a disabled person based on the most visible traits. It's not the whole person as performance is not the whole game. Should they get 9-10/10? no of course not. Yet a good game is a good game, shit performance or not.
i thought it was mostly user error, not as rare it seems, what a farce for a 1600+ eur card , most these fellas prolly payed 2000 and then some shitty connector burns, they could have lost their house man ..... sue the shit out of nvidia
It is user error, but it is also design flaw, connector is fragile and most people are not delicate enough with the connector, like pressing side panel to the adapter shit etc.. I bought instantly cablemod 12vhpwr cable to my Asus seasonic unit, that damn adapter is monstrosity, it fit my Phanteks P600S case tho without problems.
Another issue is placement of the whole connector. EVGA 4090 card has connector at the end of the card which is much better placement instead of top, assuming that not everyone is having a PC case in a size of a condo.
Ryzen 9800X3D CO Per Core ~-28 | Freezer III 360 A-RGB & 3x Phanteks T30 | Strix X670E-F WiFi | MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Ventus OC | Fury Beast 64GB (2x 32GB) DDR5 5600MHz C40 @ 6000MHz C28 | FURY Renegade G5 4TB PCIe 5.0 | 38GN950-B | S.M.S.L RAW-MDA1 & HiFiMAN Arya Organic | Lancool III Snow White + 4x be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4 140mm | RM1000x (2021) Gold | G Pro X SUPERLIGHT 2 & POWERPLAY | Win 11 Pro | Logitech MX MECHANICAL
So a massively overpriced GPU catching fire, melting, or starting a house fire is because ripped off user wasn't delicate enough with the shitty provided cable.
You wouldn't say that after you've seen what Gamers Nexus had to do to get one to melt
and the crazy things other youtubers have done without it melting
Like sending thousands of watts through the connector or pulling on the cable like maniacs
And magically, after all that media coverage, the reports of melted connectors stopped except for the odd one once a month or so due to actual manufacturing defects, some even by CableMod
All those other cards must have downloaded a firmware update to improve the connector
Or, and hear me out, it was user error after all
The design is clearly not ideal, on many GPUs you don't even get a click when you insert the cable properly
But we are talking about simply having to make sure a cable is fully inserted, if you can't even do that on your $2000 GPU maybe don't build PCs?
Cause that's still one of the easiest building hobbies out there.
Try working on a car and blaming car manufacturers because you didn't triple check something that has zero tolerance for error

iTs a UsEr eRRor problem ..
4090 owner here. The connector is bad and should've never been implemented in this way. The card is specified for 600W for little to no reason. With 20-30% less Power Limit, the connector could've been specified for about 400W which would probably ease the implementation of it as well. The card would still be the absolute TOP #1 in performance so 600W is just waste in many ways.
I don't care how easy or hard it is to connect, the implementation is bad, the placement is bad and I really do hope that NVIDIA will learn from this mess.

AMD's high-end graphics cards are also falling fast with pricing in China, with the Radeon RX 7900 XT now on shelves for 26% under its MSRP. In the US, that reduction applied to the original MSRP of $899 would give us a price of around $665, a good deal less than the cheapest level the RX 7900 XT has been seen at ($760).

.
But they need overhead on it for those that overclock, bios tweak, and so on. Avi (my friend) got his to pull 520 watts with a custom bios and really aggressive overclocking. He was trying to get 3dmark score in top 50 for his PC store.
I dont disagree the implementation of the way to do it, was bad (and the solder job on cable connectors looks like it was done by one eyed interns) but no overhead on spec design Id say would be way a worse a design choice. In electronics Margin Over Failure is always a good choice.
Would be like saying your car only outputs 130hp. So a transmission that can handle 135hp max is more than enough to never have issues with it.

So they are doing the thing again of same name, but 8G and 16G models that are $100 in difference?
Why? Call it a different thing.

Good progress on power consumption and VRAM options but it's still ridiculously priced. An experimental generation well worth skipping unless you have more money than sense.
It's still funny to me that Nvidia considers VRAM in the x60 cards but always fucking the x70 and x80 in the ass so they buy the next one next year .
NVIDIA confirms 8GB of VRAM isn't enough to run some games at 1080p max settings
Quote:
With the GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti launching with 8GB of VRAM (the RTX 4060 Ti is getting a 16GB model in July), internal 1080p NVIDIA benchmarks for A Plague Tale: Requiem and Resident Evil 4 Remake were highlighted as two games tested using the 'High' preset as opposed to everything set to max.
i blame the devs , they knew full fucking well what cards nvidia was going to release,
i hope there is a whistleblower dev who will release internal emails where either nvidia says they planned for more memory or they told em they wouldnt. either way, fuck the gaming industry, they all in it together
Heck i read that even the xbox series S is giving users crashing error messages of running out of vram in borderlands 3, how fucking lazy have these devs become if they cant even bother to stick to the xbox limits ..... https://www.thegamer.com/xbox-series-s-apparently-vram-issues/ fuck em all , so to me this proves its not nvidia , its the trash devs
I haven't been keeping up with the 12 pin situation. But it always seems from the ones I have seen, its the connector/cable side that has the issue or majority of them. Not the socket on the card.
Would that not indicate that either the cables from the PSU is made poorly, or not inserted correctly, and not the GPU socket?
Like plugging in a fan or lamp into your wall outlet and the plug end melts, your wall outlet isnt faulty, something in the fan/lamp cord is. Or it was not seated correctly to make good contact (well US/American plugs anyway easy to do that).
Much like PLC or bigger 4/6 pin plugs for logic power boards or such (like we had at the extrusion plant I worked at) if one melted someone always went "Someone did not make sure it was seated at the way" as they took some effort to snap all the way down. Wasn't the logic power board socket that was the problem.
I could be wrong, I haven't kept up on it. And it's not a huge pool of data I have to go off of, just my own 4080 , and the 50-100 or so 4080/4090's my friend has sold and built at his shop since they came out that have had no issues. The only one he has seen with this issue was a user built one brought in for work to be done on it and they had the cable tweaked at such a hard right angle to cable manage that it was putting twisting pressure on the connection.
