They did say it was using a new in-house engine. Neither Luminous nor Crystal. AFAIK it's not used in any other game.

Also for people mocking me about the framerate on PS5, if you had watched the video I linked you would have seen the game has a 60 fps mode (albeit resolution/gfx are obviously downgraded).
Still looks nice from what you can see on these specific parts and it's most likely using some kind of dynamic resolution.

Granted, 60fps on PS5 doesn't mean 60fps on a shitty hardware on PC unfortunately... See Forspoken according to your sayings which doesn't seem optimized?

Yes it's not Unreal nor Luminous Engine according to a recent interview:

Surprise it's Unity Fuckers or something like that coming up Laughing

The engine is the same as in FF XIV. Along this year, XIV is getting a visual upgrade and most probably is to make the game look on par with XVI.
(No source, this is IMO)

No chance XIV will reach the levels of XVI. They can put some shine to the graphics, but otherwise they'd have to redesign the whole game.

True FFXIV is layers of spaghetti code on top of each other besides it's based on an early version of Luminous tools (and 1.0 was crystal tools afaik) there is no way they would change the engine again way to expensive. 7.0 will just add a new lightning system and other stuff probably similiar to what newer Luminous tools versions offer.

Looks like a slight make-over

But it will still mostly look the same

That world would be easy to get excited about if it were coming from PB, CDPR or Rockstar

Coming from these guys, I bet my left nut that there's barely anyone you can talk to or interact with, that the world isn't very interactive and almost everything outside of combat is dealt with via a cutscene

Yep. I expect a world that feels dead with great looking things that don't really make sense if you think about it.

My problem with most JRPGs worlds is that they feel like they were built not for the enjoyment of the player exploring them and finding stuff to do in them, but because the developer likes to build fantasy worlds and imagines how they'd live their alternate reality life as they built those towns or whatever.

Automated evasion, slow motion, single attack buttons performing combos

They made an already very simple system even simpler

What about more complexity for people who have been playing many of these games? Forget complexity, how about a decent challenge at all?

It looks like they're selling a game to people who are impressed by fast paced camera work

I really fucking hate the direction they've taken new games in

All these assists are not mandatory though.. they are optional, obviously for people that prefer it.
I'm personally glad it's not turn based, sorry if it's selfish but I still think the turn based mechanics is dated, and old FF games were like that because it was easier for the NES and SNES to perform with such old mechanics.

Now it's not needed anymore. I can understand if you will disagree and think I'm derp but I don't like to navigate in menus forever when playing a game, sorry!

Where did I bring up turn based anything? Too quick to respond to an argument that doesn't exist.

I'll quote myself from the FFVII thread:

Quote:
It's very much hack and slash, but for some bosses / mobs you will need to think about how you're going to beat them. Nothing too taxing on the old noggin though. It's way more satisfying than XV's combat.

And this looks like an extension of XV's

I really wonder how simple they have to make things, and how much automation they could get away with before the fan base bothers to care. Does it have to reach FFXIII levels again?

It should be turn based. Browse squares game catalogue. Imagine throwing away the only unique point of differentiation in the market the just do the same as 1000 other franchises.

Every game in the catalogue is an identical button mash hack and slash open world bullshitfest with different art. Not to worry, these guys are going chapter 11 soon anyway because of this stuff. Continually doing what your customers don't want doesn't work.

playing ff7 remake integrade on ps5 now. fuck, i cant see appeal. story is for kids/teenagers, with ridicilous absurd teenage drama/romance crap, typical anime like for 10-12 boys. turn based combat has become button mashing 95% of the time, game basically plays itself (im around 1/3 of the game or smth).

from what i saw new one might be LITTLE bit more mature but its the same or even simpler button masher. yay

Well your post was quite confusing then. You mention how great old FF games were and with the exception of XV and 7 remake, they were all turn based.
But whatever: XV gameplay was terrible (same goes with FF13) and it wasn't turn based. Thankfully, it doesn't seem anywhere near XV and seems much more complex.
Obviously you didn't watch the demo gameplay (another video than this) to say this.
The game makes use of at least 4 buttons for attacks, with even more variations accordingly to icons. You will need to adapt vs bosses. From what I see, I'm actually scared this is like Forspoken and confusing.

Anyway better wait for it to be released before judging gameplay. Same goes for me. YouTube =/ playing a game.

I was just about to type the same thing Laughing
Looks like the equal to michael bay transformer 'abstract art' visual noise of when they transform. Cant tell really what's going on, but it's big, visually busy, and random noises and flashes all over the screen.

More power to those that like it. But too busy and 'eye candy' for me. I'd be going after 30 minutes of fights like that: Can I just see the tactical fight view itself please?? I dont need in your face visuals that need to come with a seizure warning every time something hits something else and a camera that looks like its strapped to a panicked pigeon.
