There comes a time when you're fed up with AAA stuff, indie EAs and you just want to feel good and (re)play something you like very much.

So, to what games you find yourself returning to, over and over again, over the years / same year / all the time?

For me, in no particular order:

• Thief 1/2
• Guild Wars 2
• Alien Isolation
• RDR2
• Dead Space 1/2
• Condemned Criminal Origins
• Baldur's Gate 2
• Soma
• Battlefield 1
• Machinarium
• Dishonored 2
• Metro / LL / Exodus
• The Witcher 1

You must preorder your party before venturing forth.™FOV CalculatorAre you mindful today?Women: Know Your Limits!

-Driving Games-
• Project Cars 2
• Automobilista 2

-Sim (or Sim-ish) games-
• Cities Skylines
• Planet Coaster
• Space Engineers
• Kerbal Space Program

-Shooters-
• ARMA 3 MP
• GTA V (for MP silliness with friends in private lobby)
• SCUM (same as above with own private server)
• Quake Live (never gets old with friends)

Actually this is about all I play as a sum Razz I have a very narrow area of games I like anymore. So play the same ones I really like over, and over, and over.

Monkey Island 2, I must have played it 20+ times already and know every single action by heart (could speedrun Laughing).
It'll probably remain my most cherished gaming memory ever.

Movie Battles II, a SW:JKA mod that I can't stop recommending to y'all - to no avail Laughing It really is a gem worth trying out (for free too, thanks to OpenJK).

I'll also routinely run the WC2 or Theme Hospital/RCT2 SP campaign, but less frequently.

Great thread idea btw !

• Deus Ex (currently at Paris in a GMDX playthrough)
• Dragon Age Origins
• Risen
• Baldur's Gate 2
• Raven Shield
• FF7 (original)
• Mafia
• Brutal Doom
• TW1, TW2, TW3
• Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
• Gothic II
• SWAT 4
• FO4/NV with many survival mods
• FEAR 1

Then there's the list of games I always try to get into again, but give up after a few hours:

• Morrowind (world is so empty)
• RDR2 (I remember everything too well)
• Risen 2 (it's Risen 2)
• Yakuza 3 (feels like shit after playing remasters)

These are more like games that never get uninstalled in Steam. Some games may come and go for a brief time. But these can never leave.

Rise of Nations: Extended Edition
Star Ruler
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (or FAF)
CS (1.6)
Fallout: New Vegas
Dyson Sphere Program
Factorio
The Guild Gold Edition
Rimworld
Some form of Stalker

Bonus shout out to the original Rome: Total war

I remember I used to play Morrowind and GTA: San Andreas at least once a year. Not just to mess around but actually finish whole story. But with ever growing backlog, I just don't have that luxury anymore.

From the recent ones, I played a few BF4 matches and did some new missions in GTA5 Online after every major update. Now BF4 is replaced by BF 2042 (it's quite playable and got bored with BF4 maps).

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Fallout New Vegas
FTL
Hades
Morrowind
Freelancer
Mount & Blade Warband
Crusader Kings 2

KotOR 1 & 2 ( Honorable mention since they are the games I've finished by far the most amount of times of any single-player game. But I think I played them to the point of hating them, and also having tried them in recent years I can confidently say they haven't aged all that well in terms of movement and controls, plus I hate real-time with pause combat these days)

MAX PAYNE MAX PAYNE 2 MAX PAYNE 3 SHOOT MOTHERFUCKERS SHOOT MOTHERFUCKERS NO GRIND NO UNLOCKS NO CURRENCY BULLSHIT NO BLOATED OPEN WORLD.
F.E.A.R
Deus Ex games
Fallout New vegas, half life games and sometimes some good old NeoGeo.
Recently I've been toying with old shooters like RED FACTION, SiN and build engine stuff.

idk for some reasons these games just click, probably because they weren't designed with "repeat spending" business model in mind or to just check boxes the competition did 10yrs ago.

As a kid I replayed Freelancer, Gothic II, Silent Hill 2, C&C: Tiberian Sun and Diablo II couple of times. But since then can't play any game more than once. When I try I get bored. Even played those games some time ago but deleted them after couple of minutes. Just can't play the same game again where there are so many others that can possible be better and/or fun enough.

Can only say I get back to multiplayer games sometimes - Neverwinter Online, League of Legends, CS: GO, GTA V.

I mostly go back to try mods and most of these games are always installed regardless.

Unreal
x3
RTCW
Prey (2006)
Stalker
Crysis
Doom 3

Elite Dangerous is my everyday game now and has been since beta in 2014.

Starcraft (mass recall)
Starcraft 2
CnC: Tiberian Sun, the two big mods and original game.
Brutal Doom, or other build engine game.
EoB 1 & 2
Lands of Lore 1
Baldurs Gate (mostly the first one, I always get bored and drop BG2? )
SNES Metroid, sometimes one of the sequels
Zelda: the SNES one and Ocarina of Time
Anno 2070, prefer this one to all others.
HL 1 & 2, black mesa and the inconsistent HD pack
Arma 3 & CS Go i guess but i'm kinda done with online shooters.
Path of Exile, I usually get bored of grinding and quit playing around lv92 (never even seen the end bosses).

About 90% of my gaming time is typically spent replaying classics over and over, so I know that feel(tm) even too well, haha. Very Happy The list is a ridiculously long one but its main entries probably are:

- Fallout 1/2 and (modded) New Vegas
- Deus Ex (+ mods, especially GMDX)
- Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
- STALKER (all of them, though lately it's mainly been Anomaly time)
- Anno series
- System Shock 2 (+ mods)
- Splinter Cell trilogy (especially Chaos Theory)
- Hitmen (especially Blood Money)
- Gothic 1/2
- Freespace 2 (+ mods)
- Thief 1/2

- SWAT 4 (+ mods)
- ARMA series (+ mods, and including the good ol' Operation Flashpoint)
- Hidden and Dangerous 2
- Mafia
- Tomb Raider series (up till The Last Revelation)
- KOTOR 1/2
- Jedi Outcast
- Severance Blade of Darkness
- Half Life (+ mods)/Black Mesa/Half Life 2 (+ mods)
- F.E.A.R.

Ya interesting lists,

Early Tombraiders - yeah i'd play these again, where traversing the environment was the game.
Carmageddon 1 - is my jam, the 3d counterparts always seemed lacking to me.
Thief 1 is solid game, why can't someone make something like this anymore?
Prey 2006 was ahead of its time and a great game. Even to this day it showcases more zany physics effects than Portal or any other game that came a decade later.
SupCom 1 is legendary but suffers from single core meltdown once you hit mid/late game.

If only we all didn't live on opposite sides of the world, a hump MP LAN server would be awesome for some of these games. Supcom, old CnC's / OpenRA, star-craft, carmageddon. I've never tried the public online due to their age I figure there would only diehard uber-players left.

i don't replay games as much as i used to, instead i look for old games i haven't played before or new mods of old games.

a few of the repeat offenders listed from most common to least include:
Doom 2
Stalker
Arma 3
Minecraft
Catacylsm DDA
Quake (sometimes Q3)
Supcom
Skyrim (Morrowind would be here, but i keep failing to get started with Tamriel Rebuilt)
Neverwinter (NWN1)
Diablo & Diablo 2
Ultima Online (own server)
Nascar 2003

i may or may not have missed a few, sometimes i forget about their existence Very Happy
i think i also have a few new games to add to this list, things like Project Zomboid, 7D2D, Aurora4X, Rainworld, Space Engineers and the like, but it remains to be seen if i keep returning to these.

i've probably played everything that has been mentioned here so far just in the past year or two but always with a different mod.. i don't think i replay anything without mods.
there's only a few games that i end up returning to regularly for whatever reason. for example, i must have replayed BG2 and Fallout 2 a dozen times, but it's not usually anywhere close to every year, i think they just don't have enough moment-to-moment gameplay appeal.

I see so many unique combinations of games, men...

No idea how this thread idea came to mind, but it's unexpectedly fking interesting to read each and one of the posts. Especially since each and one of us combines multiple, different styles of games.

so long as you still have enthusiasm for gaming, you can always wrench more out of old games thanks to decades of players enjoying them and reminding you why these games are still so good. also helps that many of these same players have spent literal years making content for games too.

i used to really only play MP shooters when i first got into x86 gaming, but now i play just about everything Laughing
it's primarily thanks to other people talking about games and making the effort to understand what makes a particular genre fun.. i think now i've completely lost track of my backlog, but i still can't help but replay older games if i can find the time, especially if a new mod appears Laughing

I usually not replay games that aren't rouges and rougelikes. But there's always installed original X-COM (via OpenXCom) with various mods that I replay to the death.
