r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072
That line is the only one that I needed and it did the trick, though I set it to 4096 for my 10gb GPU.
EDIT: It works for playing on DLSS perfromance, all ultra, RT off. If I disable DLSS and go full 4K, I get the drops again, and would probably need to reduce the poolsize to compensate.

yeah figured as much.
i was just surprised not to find the "r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072" in the second one which probably corresponds with "r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1" instead of =0 in the nexusmods .ini

Anyone find the voiceovers and I guess the sound in general to sound low quality? Maybe too much compression? Not sure if its just the yarr build or what.

AmpegV4 wrote: | It's a good game, it has collectable game-play that I usually hate/stay well clear of but they havn't gone insane with it. Just when i'm about bored/over collecting something i've completed all the reward that can be had by it. Also lets say you need to collect 30 of X, there's actually 100 of X in the game-world so you won't be wasting 18 hours trying to figure out where 18/30 is hidden which typically suuuuucks.
I think the combat is really fun, you combo chain spells and basic attacks, you have like 18 spells and 12 other combat abilities.. more than most game combat systems. Combat is only difficult for the first 2-4 hours of the game (on hard) and very easy/casual on normal. I don't take stealth abilities because it makes most games boring for me, its not to say i don't use stealth, just very sparingly for fun.
The amount of effort they put into crafting the world is for me what differentiates it from most open-world games (i typically avoid open-world games, i just don't like them). Just about every location you explore has some kind of non-forced animated scenes playing out which keeps it interesting. I also like the amount of effort gone into custom animations revealing secret doors, pathways, bridges, tunnels, every now and then you see something new. Tone of the game is nice and yeah I like just people being polite for a change in a game.
anyway, you can demo it for 2 hours or it if interested. |
+1
I have about 50 hours in it now, still enjoying it.
In regards to puzzles, I think they did go overboard with how many there are in the world. It would be a different story if they weren't so easy, predictible and the same. But it's just a slog doing those over and over. Rarely do they change them up, they either move objects further away or... nope, that's about all they do.
The only other complaint is how the bottom half of the map feels like it was tacked on, it's not as dense or as interesting as the top half.
I like the combat, and until I got some of the curses, it was always pretty challenging. Those two battle arenas, on hard, without curses... god damn. But flinging people from cliff tops, making them kill each other, curses, throwing random shit at them, counters, dodging, ancient powers, smacking them with their own weapons - it's more diverse than most open world combat systems.
Haven't touched stealth either. Stealth is always OP and tends to mess up most games. Cyberpunk is another recent'ish example - if you exploit all it has to offer, there's no fun left in fighting the AI.
I was never a Harry Potter fan, haven't seen all the movies and never knew much about it. I figured it was mostly a kids game. And for it to contain as much content as it does, coming from WB, it seems like we got more than I ever thought we'd get. I cannot believe it doesn't have a billion microtransactions attached to it.
One thing I do find annoying is how they just dumped a trans character in there. Not because they're trans, but because of how hamfisted it is (as per usual). The crudely edited voice change was bad enough, but the more you go through the associated quests, you can see how it feels like a last minute inclusion. What really got me was how in some quests you have to do all of these long drawn out things to find notes and piece together what has happened but in that character's quests you just find all ~7 of them in one little room at the back of a cave It really feels like they went back at some point and figured they'd change that person to trans, and then just do the bare minimum to try and make it obvious to everyone. Lazy as hell.

ini fixes did the trick though.
still fps dips here and there resulting in some stuttering but it is much more stable / enjoyable now

Only tweaks I had to add to engine.ini:
[SystemSettings]
r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072
r.VolumetricFog=0
+ Changed 3 in-menu settings from Ultra to High (including Textures) and had to completely disable RT.
RTX 3060Ti @1080p

does the volumetric fog option get rid of what seems like this greyish tint in the picture?
makes everything look kind of washed out, especially on HDR (LG oled TV)

That would be the HDR. Either broken HDR or setting. Adjust your HDR brightness settings

broken hdr but also the damned fog which is always present even indoors ffs...
this game supports system level HDR calibration, so brightness (i.e. raised/crushed blacks) should not be an issue if set up properly in windows via calibration tool
yet something is still off... but watching videos on the web this seems to be a general problem with this game as mentioned a couple of pages prior alreade

Is there a multiplayer mod that works on the first (cracked) release?

I tweaked with the HDR a lot. Truth is, the HDR calibration is fine (not stellar, but fine).
The foggy look is because of the volumetric fog. Remove the fog, and HDR looks decent. BUT! The fog is part of the look the developers were going for, because Scotland is misty or something like that.
So I decided to READD the fog, as it is the aesthetic vision of the devs, so be it.

Yeah mens, at least with the cracled version and using the "sprinting through hogsmeade like a lunatic" benchmark I'd say the issue with the stuttering is that the game absolutely bulldozes my laptop's 16Gb of RAM.
HW info registers a maximum of 97% RAM usage
Recommended preset (everything on medium), dlss quality, 1080p.
Ryzen 5600h
16Gb DDR4
RTX 3060 laptop
Samsung 970 evo
On the desktop it's much smoother and peaks at 22Gb of RAM usage.
