Do not make a new save and try getdataback or similar software. Dont be surprised if the recivered save is corrupt though

Was able to recover saves HL-00-01.sav but it's not showing up when I start the game..

Really impressed with this, actually. One of the best AAA games out of the box i can remember in a long while. Haven't had any bugs, only slowdown i have is the doors(1 second loading most of the time). Got an GTX 1660 and an I5 6500 3.2 ghz, the cpu is usually my achilles heel.

Was recommended low, but now have textures on ultra and rest on medium, still smooth playing.

Really surprised, especially as its without a day 1 patch.

Fun game for 10 or so hours but gets boring after that with repetitive stuff. The dialogues and characters are lame, boring cutscenes, the open-world experience is a soulless copy-pasted standard aaa open-world game, lacks enemy variety, filler side quests, bad menu UI with so many clicks to get rid of !, nothing to role-play, bloated with collectibles, choices don't matter, etc,.

The loot/gear system is useless randomized crap and you rarely stick with any gear for more than 10-20 minutes.

Visually it is very pretty but everything else is just meh.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Yeah sounds about right from what I've heard as well, combat apparently becomes a slog after a while unless you go for the overpowered stealth build that just wrecks everything. Very Happy

I'm still within those 10 hours, because I'm still walking around being amazed around every corner Very Happy

Still getting crashes though.
When a game just closes, without any warning message or anything, that's usually a sign of the GPU overheating, right? It always happens when picking up a collectible, like one of those papers flying around, or the butterfly in the mirror thing.
Apart from these crashes, the game actually runs decently here. Some FPS loss when sprinting around the castle, which doesn't seem abnormal, but not having the frequent slowdowns either. But saving the game every 2 minutes before performing any action ain't fun either...

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

If the game crashes but Windows still works it's probably a game problem, not hardware issue?

It's a good game, it has collectable game-play that I usually hate/stay well clear of but they havn't gone insane with it. Just when i'm about bored/over collecting something i've completed all the reward that can be had by it. Also lets say you need to collect 30 of X, there's actually 100 of X in the game-world so you won't be wasting 18 hours trying to figure out where 18/30 is hidden which typically suuuuucks.

I think the combat is really fun, you combo chain spells and basic attacks, you have like 18 spells and 12 other combat abilities.. more than most game combat systems. Combat is only difficult for the first 2-4 hours of the game (on hard) and very easy/casual on normal. I don't take stealth abilities because it makes most games boring for me, its not to say i don't use stealth, just very sparingly for fun.

The amount of effort they put into crafting the world is for me what differentiates it from most open-world games (i typically avoid open-world games, i just don't like them). Just about every location you explore has some kind of non-forced animated scenes playing out which keeps it interesting. I also like the amount of effort gone into custom animations revealing secret doors, pathways, bridges, tunnels, every now and then you see something new. Tone of the game is nice and yeah I like just people being polite for a change in a game.

anyway, you can demo it for 2 hours or it if interested.

ok sorry for bringing this up again but i dont see myself playing this for 10 hours...

all was well until i reached Hogsmeade where everything went to shit.

i get fps drops from 60 to 30 constantly navigating the town. this persists even if i lower settings to the point that the gpu sits only at 50% load.

started out with 1440p no scaling @high preset (no RT). DLSSed it down to "performance" and medium preset but same shit. this is on a 5600x and a 3070.

haven't tried the .ini fixes but not expecting much. how is this bearable for you guys?

Just do the .ini line where you specify some memory figure. That single-handedly fixed the FPS drops for me. That doesn't remove the stuttering from Hogwarts or Hogsmeade though, there's no fix for that AFAIK, but at least your FPS shouldn't take a dump.

so i guess we're talking about this (reddit):

Code:

[SystemSettings]
r.bForceCPUAccessToGPUSkinVerts=True
r.GTSyncType=1
r.javascript-event-stripped1
r.FinishCurrentFrame=0
r.TextureStreaming=1
r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1
[ConsoleVariables]
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesDuringGamethreadUpdates=1
AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesEditor=1

there's also this mod on nexus ascendio-something (c.f. below) which proposes different/more elaborate changes. any preferences?

95% of those ini parameters either don't do anything or are the default values already

But it can't hurt, so might as well
