Guess all of those boycotts aren't quite having the desired effect

It's a brand new game and they are doing twitch drops so those always inflate the numbers of viewers of any game.

That's because it kinda IS hilarious.

It's also a win against the woke's nonsensical take on reality and the 'subtle' call to boycott J. K. Rowling through not buying this.

^ thats insane. That's a top 40 steam number (meaning of any game, ever) This should crack 500K CC on steam on friday, if we're looking how COD did it (it also had a 3 day early access edition).

Game will probably sell 7-8 million in the launch weekend on all platforms if these numbers are accurate.

This is a situation where a game that is not yet launched is the 40th most played game on steam in all of gaming history. And its morning in europe, night in america and the middle of the week. It's quite abnormal behaviour, regardless of the game.

Seems like performance is all over the place for PC with some people with beefed up rigs getting constant stutters, while others are having no issues.

Does this game have raytracing?

I don't get stutters, but i get fps drops at 4k with full on raytracing. 12900k and 4090

Ah cool. I suppose the drops are just a raytracing thing. I'm gonna wait for the user reviews to pile in to see if it's worth a go.

As for the boycott, I'm not sure what else people expected. Remember this?

I'm the only person I know who said they wouldn't get MW2 due to the server thing and actually stuck with it Laughing

And if IIRC there was an L4D2 boycott as well because of how it was more an expansion and that didn't pan out well either.

Really like it so far. Need nvidia GRD though.. Stutters when RT is on even though fps is high. Playing without RT at alla atm. 4k ultra, DLLS quality 120fps. Swicthed to DLSS 2.5.1 for better experience. Wonder if this game benefits from enabling ReBAR.? Cant find a profile for it in inspector yet...

So mutahar (utuber and loonix fangirl) was mentioning that running the game on linux he was noticing less stuttering and slightly better framerates. But also acknowledged that it might be something with his rig.

An HP game that's remotely good is bound to generate insane amounts of hype, it also comes after a long time period without HP games after the movies came out : it's sure to become a smash hit. HP is as big as SW was for us to many of 90s kids.
While bland, it seems to meet most expectations from the targeted audience.

Maybe those performance issues will be solved by the day1 patch ? Pffchh

The game runs better than 90% of big game releases in the last 2 years. Things to note: RT on uses large amounts of vram, where you need 12 gigs or more for 1440p. So just turn it off. Game seems to require a pretty powerfull cpu. Adjust settings accordingly and it runs good.

Proton manages to run Denuvo games, hence why it can run on Steam Deck Wink
(Janz beat me to it !)

@qqq Yeah, I agree, it seems like it's pretty well optimized outside of RT which is to be expected, I'll probably choose to turn it off altogether on my already old 3070 (as you pointed out, VRAM limitations will bite me in the ass) because I cannot stand how DLSS looks, the sharpening/ghosting/whatever flaw this or that specific DLL will come with just breaks the deal for me.

Those stutters on large VRAM GPUs are hopefully fixed with the day1 patch - even the beefiest rigs still seem to get these issues on and off as long as RT is activated, some claim they fixed it by tweaking drivers and whatnot..

Perhaps I'll still be able to get some acceptable compromise without it while keeping some RT features on, who knows Razz

what in the flying fuck ? This is top 20 games ever right now, and it's not yet launched. These are just people who bought the more expensive deluxe edition giving 3 day early access. This is gonna do Cyberpunk/Elden Ring numbers if it keeps going up. I would not have suspected this level of popularity

It's pretty much like Pokemon which a huge chunk of gamers my age grew up with.

Sadly I never got into Pokemon or Harry Potter because I had a GameGear, and by the time the books came out I was already reading more "grown up" fantasy. I was an annoying kid.

HP was extremely popular. I liked the movies, kinda interested in this game. Probably one of biggest new franchises in last two decades. Also they didn't whore the license like all the 80's franchises.

I'm sorry, but it's pretty funny to see you so surprised by this Laughing Been living under a rock ? Razz

HP is a monster franchise in the likes of SW or Pokémon (not as big as either, but very close to it), it's been years and a whole console generation since a game related to it was last released.. and it's the one open world game every fan has been looking for - to top it off, it's not half bad and brimming with fan service and little details. HP fans also tend to be in the age at which they can just purchase the game if they wish so.
It's coming out at the perfect time too with virtually no competition for potential buyers to hesitate with.

Fasten your seatbelt because the numbers will only grow Laughing
Cyberpunk, as insanely hyped as it was within the gaming community (pretty much that community alone) didn't really have a pre-existing fanbase ready to play it.. if some studio came up with a LOTR open world, you'd see probably higher numbers.

If that upcoming open world SW game is any good (and I reckon it'll be roughly of the same quality as this, not amazing but competent enough), it'll blow those numbers off easily. Very Happy The level of expectation for that open world has to be high as well (nobody cares about super hero open world games anymore, there's been more than enough of them), it needs to have been cooking for years and years to also create such hype.

Im not surprised that harry potter is popular. Im surprised that by the looks of it, this is going to be the 3rd most popular singleplayer game in steam's history. That means it will have sold the most on PC instead of consoles, because the kind of numbers elden ring and cyberpunk did on steam are higher than any playstation or xbox game in existence ever did.

The game does absolutely nothing for me, but it's nice to see that the many Harry Potter fans finally got their gaming wishes fulfilled despite all the rancid drama surrounding the whole thing. Laughing Now if some of my wishes came to fruition too, that'd be swell.
