Prey - the best game they've made, shattered it wasn't more successful.
Arx Fatalis - An Ultima Underworld clone - I'm old and UU1&2 where ahead of their time and favourite games of mine.
DMOMM - Not bad, it hasn't aged well.
I looooved dark messiah of might and magic and arx fatalis
after that though, dishonored 1&2, prey, deathloop, and redfall here, I can't stand the (art) style of any of those games.
I managed to push through it with dishonored and played those games years later but gave up on prey and deathloop.
I need an art style that draws me in. Arkane's pushes me away instead. Their sensibilities do not match up with mine at all.
Redfall is continuing that trend. Seems to have started with the bethesda acquisition of course
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.
This could be a way better online game than Back 4 Blood, World War Z and the likes. But I can't digest this TikTok approach to characters, writing and setting.

from the description its much more closer to the likes of borderlands or Dying Light than those
L4D, B4B and WWZ are basically corridor coop arenas
This new trailer of RF puts quite the amphasis on "openworld" and the game being "story-based" ... so who knows ... i guess we need some proper description/trailer of how the openworld and story is dealth with ... coul be like Dead Island/Dyig Liht .... or more corridorry like Borderlands
Pink shotgun, you know, cute for the ladies!
That "action scene", edited as all fucks to make it look good seemed empty and by-the-numbers.
Saying the same as everybody, because this shit is the epitomy of "boardroom made".
Erh...

None of their games since the first Dishonored sold well, they all lost money. So it's natural that they aren't getting money to make the same games over and over when they lose money like 4 times in a row. They're starting to imitate popular concepts now. They've said this one is their take on Far Cry 2 in particular and Stalker
Like i said, EVERYTHING they did after Dishonored which was 11 years ago was a commercial failure. They specifically said they're putting Dishonored down because sales for the sequel and its expansion were poor.
There really is no point in bitching about their current trajectory after they spent 10 years doing multiple games that nobody bought. At one point, you can't just make games over and over that the market rejects.
Completely agree with qqq there, how can we even blame them for it ?
Having critical success only gets you so far, it's apparent reading Arkane's interviews over the years that they've just came to terms with the fact that not nearly enough people want their games to make them profitable. There were pushing forward with a no compromise attitude for a very long time, but it's just not sustainable at their current size. I think Nox was
Prey 2017 was pretty much their last ditch effort in making something very ambitious and yeah, reviews were raving.. but it ultimately didn't sell well at all. So from now on, they'll aim for something less ambitious and costly, that's how it goes.
Since Bethesda bought them off in 2010, they were fucked, and since it's founder's Colantonio departure in 2017, it's clear they won't feed these ambitions anymore.
If you want to do big AAA SP games that are also ambitious, you basically need it to sit upon some big existing IP/characters or make it technically impressive, you're fucked otherwise, no matter how good the game might be. Indie studios are the only ones left to pull that sort of thing off, and it won't be with a AAA budget
Quantic Dream kinda follows a similar trajectory. Very ambitious, creative and independent at birth, much less so as time went by.

You two forget a point that Arkane are mainly to blame for a situation of their own making. They are trying to cater to everyone with their games which leads to a 'trying to please everyone but end up pleasing nobody' situation. Their takes on immersive sims since Dishonored have been heavily tweaked to try and get FPS players which was a mistake since no group is happy with their half measures. Prey was another game where they did this and all their games have been modified versions of Dishonored in different settings.

Where are you living? It's like you're blind to all the news, previews and videos about the game
It's not of their own making, it's a reaction to their games not selling. They don't fund their own games, no ? They need to get money and projects aproved by Zenimax until Microsoft got them. The first Dishonored was a surprise hit for them. So for D2 they got a nice cash uplift, which you can tell from every molecule of that game, and they ended up with sales something like 40-50% lower in the launch window than the previous game, on a much bigger market and budget.
You dont keep making the same game when people are not buying it, you course correct how you feel you need to in order to survive. Until we end up in the current situation where Far Cry is their inspiration. If they were under another publisher they'd have been killed after Prey
And why aren't the games selling? Because their target audience is too wide. Again, they are trying to please everyone and end up pleasing no one. This is one thing CoD does best - it knows its audience and only caters to them.
First Dishonored was a surprise hit because that's what it was - a surprise. Every 'immersive' sim after that from their side has been a dilution of the genre even if they were decent efforts. Dishonored 2 squandered a lot of potential by having launch problems which caused lots of performance issues. All these things add up.

Add the big culprit: lack of marketing and PR by Bethesda. Bethesda mishandled Arkane's games due to incompetence or for some internal political reason.
Dishonored 1 & 2 + Prey were amazing games (esp. Dishonored 1 and Prey) but Prey had nearly no marketing behind it. I don't know why or how but I know it hurt the game immensely.

Dishonored 1 was a hit because it shipped in a good state.
Prey on release was a mess, same goes for Dishonored 2.
