Because I do a LOT of graphic intense VR gaming on a vive pro 2 like asetta corsa, automobilista 2, MSFS, etc. and I want 120 fps in VR (or as close as I can get), and sometime this year plan on getting two super ultrawides [5120×1440] along with a 3440x1440 in the middle, and when not in VR I want a card that will push 13,680x1400 at 100 fps for racing
And reason no nvidia, is nvidia doesn't do 3 screen of different resolution as a full single res gaming option, they have to be all the same. I have no care for RTX, and DLSS is useless for 1/2 my games and in VR. That and I refuse to spend $2000 for the 4090 [1600-1700 for the card, plus tax, plus shipping].
If your on one monitor, and no higher end VR. I 100% agree no need for a new card this gen. |
AMD is bad choice for VR tho.

Works OK for me. Works about as well as I would expect it to. Games I struggle to get 120 in with my 6800xt friend with 3080 does also.
Can't think of any reason why it would be. It's not using RTX, DLSS, or any features Nvidia has the upper hand on. It's just normal rasterization x2. It's really nothing GPU wise other than rendering to two monitors..just they are strapped to your eyeballs.

@escalibur
If true and not a exception to the norm, good thing my case is 'upside down'. Its an Lian Li EVO in flipped configuration, so my MB and cards are the 'wrong way'.
Would fix a problem I didn't even know I would have when it gets here (today actually).
Not sure if an actual problem, if so that's shit QC. Will see how it does for me. Got a second machine the normal setup to test with, I can see if there is a difference at least for me.

Probably due to more costs and some level of case incompatibilities.

@DXWarlock
I would reconsider your top fans' position due to their airflow. Currently your setup is so that two top fans on the right are battling with the GPU for the air, meaning that GPU's fans are probably not getting enough (cool) air thanks to top fans 'stealing' the flow:
To me the whole GPU position looks silly because the card generates hot air which rises up. Then GPU's fans are sucking the same hot air back down again. Though the position would be good if GPU fans were in sucking position.

It's fine that way it seems, not like they are a cm apart.
There is a good 12-13 cm between them. Unless they are close enough to cause pressure drop by a Bernoulli effect, they are not fighting for air with each other. Its air not corn syrup
There is so much airflow with 13 fans (the radiator has fans front and back since I had spare noctua fans from my old case). That hot air doesn't linger around long enough to matter. And hot air only rises on its own in an environment where its buoyancy difference is greater than the directional airflow resistance. Air a handful of C different than ambient (inside the case vs out of card) majority moves with the airflow, which is bottom to top anyway. And I'm blowing more air past it, than it move itself.
I keep all the fans at a static speed of around 60%, that is the point where I can start to 'hear' them. You can hear them a little regardless, but where they are above room ambient noise to be noticed.
Card doesnt get over 70ish under 100% load. MB/case sensor temps sit around room ambient plus a few degrees at most.

wouldn't that depend on your room temperature? Is your room chilly then it's great to bring in more cool air, but if it's regular or warm then you want to push it out
My hot take

@paxsali
The side fans are pushing out. If I flipped them the radiator would blow its heat in the case. (if you mean the 3 facing you in the pic, that's where the 6 of them are 3 on the back too).
I mean we are not trying to cool a nuclear reactor here There is more than enough air moving around in the case, flipping the fan will do little. Best case if it was applicable, would mean I might go from 75 CPU and 70 GPU to maybe 73 and 68?
Won't make any tangible worth difference in the end so I set it up so it stays cool and best setup because it sits on my desk next to me, I rather have air go up and also out the back, than down towards the desk bouncing at me out the bottom.
With the Lian Li case I have the fans are on a mounting plate, I can flip the whole plate pretty easy and test. But I dont think it would make any worthwhile difference. Heat the GPU makes comes 99% out the side 90 degree (towards the glass) which way I move it out of the case be it top to bottom, bottom to top, or out the backside wont matter. It has to change direction 90 degree in any of those scenarios. Long as I get it away from it, it doesn't have to go 'up'.

Im fine with it. Nothing gets even remotely close to 'worry time' for temps. The 7000x CPU series is hot as hell it seems. 95c is 'normal' for them at least out of the box. I'll take 75.
Only thing I dislike about the layout is the negative vs positive pressure situation. Now all the folklore about temp differences between either is bullocks. You aren't creating enough of a vacuum that air's thermal mass chances. Maybe if you caulked your case airtight and made ALL fans blow out, but even that would be from lack of able to get new air to move, more than the air pressures thermal mass.
But more dislike it because that with more fans blowing out air gets pulled in at the grates, mesh, and other nooks and crannies vs just at the fans themselves, causing dust to get in/build up easier vs just at the dust filtered fan inlets. Because with bias to more fans in, the air blows slightly out of all those places.
But the side comes off just by pulling it with no tools, so cleaning it out is a snap.

Why??
That should be a $700 card max (at current outrageous card pricing ranks).
IMHO it should be a $500 card, and 4090/7900xtx should be $750(ish) max. The prices over last few gen's have been racing past the price of inflation to ridiculous prices.
