+50% increase is really great. The only thing which sucks is pricing. And it sucks by A LOT. |
That is where it gets meh, its so over priced, i bet the AMD cards will be very nice buy. |
I hope that AMD wont be AMD again (tm) and disappoint us in a way or another. Otherwise NVIDIA can do whatever they want.

I have a gut feeling that AMD's drivers will exhibit frame pacing problems due to the chiplet design. And I predict Nvidia to move to chiplets and have working drivers before AMD fixes these issues.

And why there will be frame pacing issues?

I just expect the chiplet design in increase latencies and that clever scheduling will be required to mask it. And I know from friends that use recent AMD GPUs that the drivers are still way behind Nvidia, sadly.

About to build a new PC, going to wait until Jan sometime as the new cycle is about out.
Want to see what the AMD 7000 offers for cards, and well for CPU since both this time is 7000 series named.
My 6800xt is just fine, other than in heavy hitting VR titles which is about all i do in VR: MS fight sim, automobilista 2, and so on.
But if the AMD 7000 series GPU is worth it will get whatever 7800xt is. And waiting to see if the 7800x3D CPU rumored comes, and if its worth it over the 5800x3D I'm considering now.
Id consider Nvidia, but Ive had the opposite experience with the drivers. Nvidia multiscreen setup in games for non same sized monitors is a pain to get to work (forgot what they call it). But AMD doesnt care what random collection of screens and resolutions and rotations I have, it works flawlessly to treat them as one big spanned single resolution monitor.
Same reason my friend that has a PC store is trading his 3090 for a 6900xt less power but hes had the same issue, as well as customer builds with similar setups: He is tired of fighting Nvidia software to get Euro Truck sim, or automobilista 2 (or other random games for customers) to work as 3 screens = 1 screen resolution, with his 2 side ultrawides and his center super ultrawide. Nvidia refuses to play nice with them when trying to do it.

Definitely a good situation for us consumers. Though I think that some of the potential buyers are just hold back due to insane price hikes on pretty much everything besides your income.

Well I heard that in EU retailers are hiking up prices, wait and don't buy until the prices drop considerably. I will buy my comp first and wait for the lowering of prices, my 1070 is still going strong and I am able to wait for now.

@escalibur
How do these spread?? After the internet being around so long, and the opportunity for everyone to know the base bone basics of internet usage. Who is still going to sites, other than the site that makes a free app, to download it?
Who is going to say "MSIAfterburner.biz" or something and downloading random files just named the same thing?
I dont expect everyone to be security experts. But come on human collective as a whole. The internet has been around 30+ years, no excuse that people still dont know how to use it even remotely safely.
Getting tricked by a complicated well done trojan I can see the average person getting. But downloading an application that is the most basic of to find the legitimate site for (you have to almost try not to) seems saddening it happens.

The problem is at the users who are not that interested in technology. MSI Afterburner malware is probably aimed at the gamers who just want to play games without caring about anything else. These strange links can be easy to detect while reading about them on random security blog but when someone spam them on Discord/Steam chat etc it is suddenly much more harder. Threat actors are cheeky with what-not tricks.
This same trick has been used before as well.
https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/nq4b8j/7zipca_is_a_spoof_site_sending_out/
How to stay undetected? Share your malware in code format at eg. pastebin.com -> trick the user to run the script which downloads 'just simple text file' and locally convert it into whatever format:
https://threatpost.com/malware-pastebin-like-service/159838/
Don't get me started on homographics domain tricks..
https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2017/10/out-of-character-homograph-attacks-explained
Goodluck with detecting them.

People that drive cars dont need to be interested in being a mechanic. But there is still a minimum bar to pass on understanding how to use the gas/brake and steering wheel together.
Using the internet should be like driving a car. You have to pass a very very basic test to prove you have at least the bottom of the barrel understanding of how not to ruin yourself or others before getting a permit to log on
Questions like "Someone you dont know posted a link to a program you could easily google to find, what do you do?"
If they say "use the link, its faster than opening google. And they posted it on a site I like to use so me trusting the site means I trust them" Sorry, you missed that question. Let's move on to the next one.
My own SON can post stuff in my discord for a program he wants help with, or showing me I might find useful. I go find it on my own. Not that I dont trust him, but I have no idea where he got HIS link for it.

No, I get what you are trying to say. Believe me I've started a whole YouTube channel about helping people who couldnt care less about thechnology to understand even the basics. I'm sure both of us would prefer some level of understanding but that's so damn easier said than done. Like some say goes 'I can teach it to you, but I cannot understand it for you.'

haha yea.
I 100% understand that. My daughter's PC is isolated on our home network for that reason. Shes old enough to understand (21) just doesnt care to. And will click any fucking link someone on her friends lists sends her, or discord she is a member of, if it's another member.
Got tired of "WTF is this shit hammering my internal IP from hers?" or checking internet usage and see she had 4/5th the total usage for the house just to her machine. (I Download a LOT of stuff and games. Something's got to be wonky on hers)
She's learning though, because anytime she gets infected, I dont spend hours cleaning it anymore. I go in there with a USB windows installer stick and go "Reinstalling windows, save all the stuff you want to keep to that external drive I got you, I will scan it while windows installs here".
One time she got super upset with me about wiping it and losing Photoshop (she does a lot of art) because it was infected with every trojan made I think..lol. Asked her where she got it and said something like: Free-Photoshop.download (or something).
Just tell me you want photoshop, I can get it. Dont try to pirate it yourself using google...

I can feel you. I'm glad I'm yet not there with our son.
Services like NextDNS and Windows' limited/standard user, uBlock Origin etc should suit many parents on some degree. How ever there will still be a lot of tricks which are very hard to protect to because criminals are aware of those tools as well.
