Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Obsidian Entertainment have announced RPG Pentiment for Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store). It will launch in November for $19.99.
From Obsidian, this game is a historical mystery role-playing game that focuses on character development, heavily stylized art, and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Germany. The main character is a clever illustrator caught up a series of murders at Kiersau Abbey over twenty five years. This character alone possesses the wits and will to expose the killers, but each decision he makes has lasting consequences and inexorably draws him closer to the center of an underlying conspiracy.
If you're looking forward to this, or like these sorts of "choose your own adventure" story games in general, check out "The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" - it's phenomenal.

I wouldn't support ultrawide either. I mean, you can't be avantgarde and expect everyone to support your choice as if it's mainstream at the same time.
Hot dang, that Act 1 really got to me. It looks great though.
Spoiler:
Wonder how the other scenes play out depending on who gets nominated.
Also I suspect it's
Spoiler:
the anchoress who managed to dig into the aqueduct and that lets her go around murdering people while looking like a ghost because of her habit, maybe at the behest of Father Thomas who does the threatening notes with fancy calligraphy
I like the game so far. My one complaint is the lack of a fast forward button that lets you zip past stuff on subsequent replays.
I'm in Act 3. Perfect scores are probably from journos who see it as some niche avante garde game that they need to praise to keep their artistic appreciation cred.
I like the game but it's certainly not a 10.
There is choice and consequence, but it's really limited to who you blame, but it's impossible to catch the actual killer in Act 1 and Act 2 from what I can see because that's not how the story works.
Also bugs with the people section in the journal that spoiled future events for me because it showed who married who, who got widowed, who lost their stuff, who gave birth to who, etc.
Some quests are bugged as well like with some characters refusing to speak to you or saying you agreed to do something for them when you haven't.
Would really lie that fast forward button though.
I think what also hurts the game is how it's set in the real world. I think having some supernatural aspects couldn't have hurt. Unless there is some supernatural aspects revealed at the end.
It's because when you see a 'ghost' you know it's not a ghost because ghosts aren't real. So while your character might think it's a ghost or whatever, you already know you should be looking for hidden passageways that lets people scurry about and so on.

I didn't know how to describe how I felt about it, but you summed it up well!
It's definitely a good, interesting little game. But multiple perfect 10s are a bit much. The same sites gave Disco Elysium less and that game had far more going for it. Particularly in terms of production value.
Anyway, on the backburner for now until they polish it a bit.
Over the next few days, we will roll out a hotfix patch for Pentiment on all platforms. This patch includes the following changes:
-Several issues that could cause spoilers for later acts to appear in your journal too early have been fixed.
-A slider to adjust the volume of writing sounds has been added.
-An issue causing text to be missing for users whose systems are set to Turkish-speaking regions has been fixed.
-Other minor stability and presentation fixes have been addressed.
When you see this patch is available, please download and install it before continuing your game. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we hope you continue to enjoy your time in Tassing and Kiersau Abbey.
