werewolf by night - 8/10
loved the ambition.
execution wasn't quite perfect but they nailed the nostalgia vibe.
-2 points for the ending.
nice cheesy acting too.
if they continue this trend it'll be great fun stuff to enjoy.
sky captain still is a 10/10, but this was close.

Hellraiser (2022) - 2/10 (It's shot well and the costumes looked good = 2 points).

A very 2022 movie. You strip away 90% of the original story, have no characters, no real plot but just give people puzzle box and pinhead. Because the audience is too stupid for a story and characters and what we have here is all that people need that actually the buy tickets anyway.

There were sections of this movie with 20+ minutes of no dialog, just girl walks around, girl gets puzzle box for close to no reason, here are some cool costumes member those? It sucks because the original really does have good themes, a decent plot and is not just a monster slasher movie.

I agree..at first I thought "well, its just a new take on it" but after a while i realized that other than using the cube (a weird version) an adding some new shitty stuff about it combined with characters that was abit like hellraiser - the movie was nothing like Hellraiser at all. Very shitty. Also, their "costumes" looked very plastic.

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Top Gun Maverick 7/10

Was pretty good but teh luv plot felt a bit like filler (kinda like with the first film, I guess?). Good job from the actors, great shots and action, and aside from the clearly "featured" songs that were complete shithouse the music/remixes were pretty good, really really nostalgic Very Happy
But are they going to Creed it with miles teller, hot wahmen pilot and the rest of the diverse fighter pilots? Hmmmmm

The Cenobites are sexless according to the book.. Pinhead's voice is "like an excited girl" originally.

Might give it a watch but probably not, doesn't seem great.

Werewolf by Night 7.5/10. Good enough for a short movie. I was entertained.

Halloween Ends (2022): 1/10 because if I compare this to nuHellraiser, this is worse. I guess 1 point for the production value otherwise 0. The most boring Halloween entry in the entire series. Michael Myers has 5% screen-time the rest of the movie is a kid drama about some kid. This Director has The Exorcist next and then the Hellraiser TV series, it's not like I pay any for any of this crap so whatever.

@Matrix - It's not really woke just a kinda shallow slasher movie - yeah female cast as pinhead so I guess is nfohump-woke™ *shrug*.

---

Actually i have seen some reasonable movies you might not have downloaded lately:

"Who Invited Them"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17677178/
6.5/10 - Thriller. Adam and Margo's housewarming party is a success. One couple linger after the other guests.

It's not that original an idea but the characters and performances are good. I like that this movie pulls off a weird awkward tension throughout without going overboard.

"Emily the Criminal"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15255876/
8/10 - Crime/Drama/Thriller with Dark Humor. Down on her luck and saddled with debt, Emily gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles.

Aubrey Plaza (she seems to be sort of type-cast) in another good film.

"Glorious"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12724306/
7/10 - SciFi with Dark Humor. Wes ends up at a remote rest stop. He finds himself locked inside the bathroom with a mysterious figure speaking from an adjacent stall. Soon Wes realizes he is involved in a situation more terrible than he could imagine.

Ryan Kwantan is decent enough in this, low budget lovecraftian sci-fi worth watching.

Done watching the Once upon a time trilogy...

Once Upon A Time In The West: 8/10. Shame they didn't get Eastwood, but good one nonetheless. Great remaster.
Duck, You Sucker! / A Fistful of Dynamite / Once Upon a Time ... the Revolution: 8/10. An odd duck, very Leone (worked in some bits, others not so), but a nice story. Would've been .5 higher if the (voice) acting wasn't so bad. Picture quality not great, could do with a remaster.
Once Upon a Time in America: 7.5/10. Watched the extended edition, which is the laziest of extended editions I've ever seen. It looked like VHS tapes were mixed in between. Even with cutting 20 mins to the normal version's runtime, I think the movie is too long. The first two hours were great, the 3rd hour was OK, the last hour was lacking. Picture quality not too great either, but better than Duck, You Sucker!

Barbarian - It's fine/10
Was expecting more from the all ecstatic reviews. But it's an ok horror, nothing revolutionary, tv quality production. One bit that could've been cut from the movie and stick like a sore thumb.

The school of good and evil - Netflix shit/10
My wife wanted to watch something else than "omg another horror movie". It's shit.

Barbarian deserves higher ratings and more praise for not being Jason 12, Halloween 14, Hellraiser 13, Texas Chainsaw 9, Scream 6? (actual numbers).

Terrifier 2 is out now as well.

V/H/S 99 - Last two segments are watchable/out of whole movie
As always a few watchable segments while the rest is some horrible handheld mess.

The Retaliators - It's a mess/10
It's a boring mess of a film with a somber, all over the place story that somebody felt that should end in Raimi's style evil dead like massacre with over the top shots and one liners. It's such a style change that I sat dumbfounded. Not to mention that it isn't written well.

Hereditary (rewatch) - 8/10

It's still pretty damn creepy with a very very dark and dreary atmosphere.

The Exorcist (rewatch) - 8/10

Just as good as the first time I watched it. There's something about this movie that makes the demonic possession more eerie and evil than modern movies about exorcisms. It feels more "realistic" in it's slow progression until Regan suddenly becomes Pazuzu. "Jesus Fuck Me, Let Jesus Fuck You", "Lick me. Lick me!", a very haunting and disturbing scene showing a different and more nuanced kind of evil than the typical one. Hereditary is an exception.

Barbarian - My preciouss baby/10

The movie subverted my expectations multiple times, and for that alone it gets a passing grade along with some fresh hairy milk. Alas, and this is a tradition with horror flicks for me, the ridiculousness of the whole thing combined with the daftness of the characters couldn't really make me suspend my disbelief. At least there was also comedy in it, always helpful to mitigate the saggy bits. ~6/10

All Quiet on the Western Front - 8/10

Now that was a true horror, jesus Foch. Impressive visuals and photography, unique use of musical instruments, very solid acting from both the young protagonists and seasoned ones, it's war in all its bleakest aspects. Pepper your Krauts and don't forget to polish your Gewehr.

Smile - The more I think about it, the lower I want to grade it. It's scary yeah ok, but only because it's just jump scares. And after a while it feels more like masochism to let the movie raise the background noise, then cut it and BOOO for the nth time. It could've been so much better, but as it is, it's just a dumbed down it follows.

I just watched 'Escape at Dannemora' for the first time.

What a suspensful treat that was.

So well acted, amazing directing by Ben stiller.

And based on a true story.

10/10

Highly recommend this miniseries

You know, any horror movie with a 6.5 and above on imdb is usually somewhat good enough for me, so I had really high expectations. And the beginning felt crazy and fresh enough to be something totally different.

Btw I saw the trailer after the movie and I have to say... jesus christ, if you've seen the trailer you don't need to watch the movie anymore, it spoilers EVERYTHING, even some of the best scares xD

It really doesn't help that my "recent" favorites in this genre are it follows, hereditary and the vvitch. This feels so clichee compared to those masterpieces Sad

I'm watching it now, I've not seen or read anything about it but but expecting "It Follows" with smiling instead Laughing

The first 20-30 minutes seemed ok. The jumpscares are over the top in this movie, i mean its at a point where they don't remotely relate to the story etc.. its just quiet then ALARM SOUNDS!!!!! etc.

All quiet on the western netflix front: 8/10. Gruesome, and well done. Some of the special effects looked a bit poor but it's forgiven.

High plains drifter: 6.5/10. Didn't really do it for me.
