I'm using a build from late 2019, v2.3.3, so I'm safe.

Get a build from 2020 or earlier. It's a pity though. It seems it's silently happening to plenty of other open source projects.

The best free Audacity alternative is a pirated Sound Forge copy. No more, no less.

Razz its open source, why not use the No Telemetry Fork?

Update to Our Privacy Policy & Apology

Today, we are introducing a revised privacy policy to address the concerns raised with the previous privacy policy published earlier in July. The original policy, which was drafted in anticipation of the release of Audacity 3.0.3, received a large amount of media attention due to the inclusion of a few key provisions that appeared to some to violate promises we had previously made. We want to address the issues that were raised, give assurances about our intentions, and provide verifiable proof of what information is actually sent from Audacity. The new privacy policy uses clearer language that we hope will explain our intentions more accurately this time. We are deeply sorry for the significant lapse in communication caused by the original privacy policy document..........

N00b program? Laughing

I used soundforge for years. Then I started using Audacity and never looked back. It's a user case thing though. I do the more advanced stuff with audio tracks in the DAW (with various plugins from izotope etc. as well as standalone tools). Audacity is perfect for quickly mixing, fixing and editing audio files for normal use.

i've recommended it to both wavelab and audacity users and everyone has converted instantly. the interface is just tons better imo + better features. One of my favorite albums of all time (Burial - Untrue) was produced using only soundforge.

whatever, you use what you're comfortable with, but i can really recommend it for those that hasn't tried it.

Oh yes, Soundforge is definitely aimed at more advanced audio editing/recording.

I don't use Audacity to do "studio" quality work, I use it to record, fix and mix ideas and rehearsal recordings into demos for the band to listen to or for me to have as a WIP demo to rearrange parts etc.. The real work takes place in the DAW using both the built-in editor and some semi-/fully professional plugins and effects. I also use iZotopes standalone "RX Advanced Audio Editor" to denoise, remove pops/clicks/hum/de-esser as well as filtering certain frequencies using the spectrum analyzer etc., a veeeery powerful, versatile and impressive tool to improve recorded material etc.

So would it be safe to download the actual 3.2.0 version or is there a trick in the installation to do to prevent any kind of telemetry etc?
