Yeah, Rogue One is probably the best Disney Star Wars film, but my problem with it is that going in, you already know that these characters aren't gonna make it out because of the OT. Which is why I'd prefer the set a millennia or two before or after the OT so the story isn't that constrained.
But then again, it's not like either Lucasfilms or Disney cares, what with all of the Jedi being introduced in between Ep 3 and 4. Where were these guys when the OT was happening?
And also why I'm not too keen on the story of Respawn's Star Wars games, since we all know our protagonist is either dying, going into hibernation, or will be out on a super secret quest in a different galaxy that leaves him stranded there so he can have further games done while not having anything to do with the OT.

I don't get why dying would be important or take away anything, i see that argument quite often. It's not like anyone lives forever. "Oh no, it ends with them dying now nothing matters what happens to them earlier!"
yes, as humans we die, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, couldn't really care.

It's not the dying that's the point, it's that going in you already expect something that will take these characters out of the OT story to happen, which is like spoiling the ending of your story.

no it's the there is no reason to fear, stakes aren't high, you needn't worry about the characters if they get into a frenzy and are about to die only with a cliffhanger? will they die? will they not. the answer is not. so there's no threat in these shows for the main characters. new characters however - if they aren't part of crew in the movie, you know they will die. so spoilers...

20 minutes into episode 1, this isn't bad at all so far. Nothing like the usual SW-shit I've been suffering in recent years (I'm looking at you, Mando and BF...). And most conversations are actually meaningful and decent.

yeah, so far its above the other newer sw shit, feels like an actual series. just how rogue one is the better sw movie, same with this one over the other series so far

Kill all the guys! Except for the one with some story relevance which our main guys don't know so just tie him up and kill the others. Quality writing.
Other than that the series is OK. Nothing spectacular, just ok.
