not every member of lgbtq2s+ is a person that makes their pronouns and sexuality their entire identity. they're the loudest of the bunch, but not the majority.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered modder gets banned over mod that replaces LGBT flags
Not long after the “Non-Newtonian New York” mod was published, it started getting noticed and soon after got pulled from Nexus Mods.
The maker of the Spider-Man Remastered mod was also banned from Nexus Mods, with a rep from the mod portal confirming the user and mod have been removed and banned as they are “no longer welcome on Nexus.”
As with anything of this nature, once the mod was published and users had it – it has since been rehosted numerous times just not on a massive modding community like Nexus Mods.
User responses to the mod itself and its prompt removal varied from “based” to some being upset the mod existed in the first place – and naturally some were upset the mod was pulled as well.
Regardless, the entire debacle once again brings up the debate over not only an owner’s right to a product they own, let alone free speech. Does such a mod that swaps one flag for another fall under protected speech?
Some will likely say that Nexus Mods is a private entity and thus can do whatever they want with the content and users on their website. This same logic can be applied to game publishers and developers – who can now legally revoke your access to a digital game you legally own, for a variety of reasons.
Great, now ban the creator of this abomination too and we'll split the difference

I think any title on this mod would have gathered any anti lgbt inflection that the outaged person could come up with.
Had he named the mod anything but "Non-Newtonian", it wouldn't have gathered any sort of attention and would have served its purpose as a game modification.

Putting it together with the name of the city gives it a certain tone.. would almost look like an euphemism for "Gay-free New York". I know it's a strawman, yada yada, but it's pretty obvious noonetheless.
"USA Flags only" would have been an example of an innocent title, the title + background image he used made it clear it was made "against" the LGBT cause, and the latter is the defining issue with it that Nexus chose to take with it.
Either way, this "controversy" only exists within a couple hundred individuals at best and is just a very successful attempt at trolling.

still can't find non-newtonian anti lgbt reference anywhere. most things are recent relating to the mod. even urban dictionary doesn't have an entry that indicates homophobia. I'm confused.
Sure, he didn't know what he was aiming for at all and used a name generator to use this completely random expression I've myself seen used before as an euphemism for LGBT (using Newtonian as a reference to the rainbow or fluid[ity]) - more than often in order to appear innocent while slandering them - for his very first upload on a hour-fresh account. Unfortunate for this promising modmaker ! I probably caught the term browsing greentexts and the likes, I don't have a direct reference at hand, sorry, but you know how creative things can get.
Even if it's not a popular expression worthy of an UD entry, its intent remains all the same.

I mean, just to be clear, I'm not against said mod in itself, I believe you should keep control over the game's files regardless of your really awesome motives for not being able to withstand rainbow flags ingame, the mod should be able to be downloaded as such.
Regardless, the witty manner in which it was presented, aka coining it as clearly aiming to remove LGBT flags with only indirect references was asking for it on a platform such as Nexus. I stand by my opinion that referencing it as something that made all flags in-game the same would have been much less attackable and could have gone unnoticed. It was obvious trolling to ruffle some feathers either side of the argument to me.
