When serving time, you’ll do anything for a chance at freedom—even if that means facing a suspected killer. Inspired by true events, Dennis Lehane’s newest Apple Original Series stars Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser. Black Bird arrives July 8 on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/_BlackBird

Inspired by actual events, when high school football hero and decorated policeman’s son Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison, he is given the choice of a lifetime — enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), or stay where he is and serve his full sentence with no possibility of parole. Keene quickly realizes his only way out is to elicit a confession and find out where the bodies of several young girls are buried before Hall’s appeal goes through. But is this suspected killer telling the truth? Or is it just another tale from a serial liar? This dramatic and captivating story subverts the crime genre by enlisting the help of the very people put behind bars to solve its mysteries.

Ensemble cast includes Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta.

He's a good actor but I can't get over Egerton's American accent and his constipated facial expressions Laughing

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Nice ending, but wish they spent a bit more time with Hall and Keene instead of the side plots that didn't really went anywhere. Hauser did a fantastic job though

That was good stuff, almost like a combination of similar concepts but with its own flavour due to the way the mini-series is unravelled. Both the cast and directing are competent, and the story being true helped as well. Very few people can play the part of a punchable chad manlet better than Taron Egerton Cool Face, there is however proper character development involved which makes it all worthwhile.

The absolute star definitely is Paul Walter Hauser though, he's the one who carries the drama with his mannerisms, the unpredictability of his gaze and unsettling high-pitched voice, managing to keep the tension intact till the very end. He was terrific in Richard Jewell as well, but he truly went full-method creepy acting mode here. *mutton chops intensify*

Halfway into episode 2, it's interesting so far. Some quality acting here and there.

I hope that at the point I am in the story the writers are just subtle leading me into thinking...

Hopefully it's not that and I won't get disappointed by the predictability in the end, maybe I'll get pleasantly surprised Very Happy Or maybe the ride will be so good that the destination won't matter!

Jeez, keep it in your pants mens.
It was a good show, but nothing really mind-blowing IMO. High praise is most likely tied to the show's use of some key 90's songs, I'm sure of it Cool Face
Also, it was pretty hilarious seeing several characters repairing broken stuff on a show created by shitpple Laughing

Seriously now, maybe they can make a 2nd season with a new case? So this will be like some sort of True Detective rival series? I'd be up for it.

It was pretty ok, and didn't overstay it's welcome thank the 6 eps format (doubt there was anymore story to add, since there already was a bit of filler and irrelevant/unresolved/pointless subplots that lead nowhere.
Still a fine show.

Was going for a 6/10, but Paul Walter Hauser's performance makes it a

6.9/10

Good show, I liked its simplicity (sometimes a benefit of being based on real facts), and like I mentioned before, some really solid performances.

With a completely new story and characters (based on real facts or not) that might work. But then again they'd just make a whole new mini-series with a different fitting title.
