Can't be too long, there wasn't that big of a area in the beta even with the later forest zone and this update was 1.6 GB so at a guess? Maybe upwards of 10 hours or so depending on the players skill and how much of the side stuff is cleared such as finding the different outfit sets and some side missions and collectible stuff.

@JBeckman
That sounds more than enough for me.
Better to have a shorter, buy enjoyable game, but a longer one, that consists of mostly filler stuff.

Better with a more focused narrative than padding and filler but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the original vision was for something a bit larger in scope but then scaled down possibly due to time and perhaps budget but I do remember reading (And perhaps even posting about it earlier in this thread.) that total play time was going to be around 8 - 10 hours though I think that was from a while ago.

As long as it has a complete ending and doesn't feel rushed or incomplete it shouldn't be a issue, I don't remember them mentioning the game being episodic either but there might be plans on a sequel depending on how well it sells now that it's out of early access. Smile

EDIT: oh a bit more

Judging by the discussions on the Steam forums, the game is still... beta. There's a lot of stuff to fix.

Will skip for now and buy it at a later date.

Has to be more, v6.30 is what it launched as and today's update is v6.39 so six to eight updates as I think one or two of these might have skipped a number.

I was about to add the [Early Access] tag in disguise but:

This is by far the biggest patch update (6.5) since the release of the game last week. It takes care of the vast majority of the remaining bugs. I won’t hide that it’s been a very intense period, with a lot of work and very little sleep.

In case some of you are wondering why those bugs were there to start with, the answer is simple (besides the fact that Ghost of a Tale is quite complex under the hood): a dozen persons testing the game on and off over a period of 2 months is simply no match for having thousands of people all starting to play at the same time. That being said, it's my fault of course.

When I realized what was happening it was obviously too late to say “whoops, sorry I’ll put it back in the fridge for moment”. The fact that most sounds didn’t play in the second half of the game furthermore gave the impression that it wasn’t finished. And that sucked.

Of course, 95% of the people who play Ghost of a Tale love it and that feels great. But I’m painfully aware that early adopters (including reviewers to this day) played with builds that were just not at the technical level they should have been. Which was particularly frustrating after an excellent run in early access.

Today, exactly 11 days after release, the game is what it should have been right from the start. So let this serve as an apology to the players who felt the game was not up to their technical standards when it launched, and an invitation to those who've been waiting to come and visit the world of Ghost of a Tale!

Sounds good Smile
(I shall start playing it again one of these days, the last time for me was in 2016 with the rough beta Razz).

Couldn't resist and finished the rodentian journey, such a charming and unique one. Forget for a moment about AAAwesome action and visceral Hollybooian effects, this is just about a humble mouse doing mouse things, practically a 3D adventure game where you have to scavenge crannies, talk to folks and solve mini-riddles in order to unwrap the story and progress. It's also quite simply the best looking Unity game to date, every single small location is incredibly well-crafted, the attention to details, quality textures, lighting effects and environments give you that genuine cozy rural feeling So Much Win

There are tonnes of conceptual flaws, the stealth is based on very simplistic on/off AI mechanics (there's however a way to "skip it" later on through a specific disguise), the RPG elements are extra-thin, there's an awful lot of backtracking involved and the entire ride is practically Fetch Quest: The Game, but...it magically works. It's thanks to the stellar atmosphere, fantastic animations for the lil' cute mouse and rewarding exploration with no hand-holding whatsoever which feels damn good Razz (you can eventually ask the Blacksmith to mark items on your maps for a small fee, though it's more satisfying to just discover them by yourself).

The levels aren't separated, they're all part of a big organic multilayered interconnected hub with shortcuts everywhere that you wouldn't expect, secrets and oohhs similar to Dark Souls' level design. The dialogues (not voiced, a plus here imo) and story are interesting as well, there's humour, good lore and characters, I actually liked reading about them and their bizarre backstories. It took me about 12 hours to complete all the quests, shame about the ending that doesn't quite feel satisfactory with the cliffhanger but who knows, maybe we'll get a sequel one day.

I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs with the latest version (v6.51), but some glitches are definitely still there (UI elements staying occasionally enabled, music playing at the wrong times) - nothing too nasty though since a simple save reload would typically "fix" them. The performance was improved as well, I got (mostly) constant 60fps on reasonably high settings/1080p.
For such a small team and considering the limited budget this is for me an 8/10 title, an original work that made me feel a bit dirty wearing Tilo's pirate costume, but I'll make up for it in the future.

7.0.5 is out with a host of bug fixes and a improved texture level due to micro detailing. Smile

https://steamcommunity.com/games/417290/announcements/detail/3427684366361322640

Quote:

Hello everyone! This is a patch release (v7.05) which fixes a couple of bugs and improves performance on the shore. You can now start a new game and change the language on the fly (without having to close and restart the app).

Textures have also been improved via better micro-detailing. You can see an example below (right-click and "View Image" to get the full effect):

https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/25699998/a3fda6082f59111d9a12bdf396cbd5b8e81ce2af.jpg

Basically after playing God of War I noticed they were using this technique very effectively (normal + albedo micro-textures), so I implemented it in the game. Smile

Enjoy!

Fixed:

Some UI dropdown menus don’t close (and reopen) properly.
Some characters in German don’t show up.
Some plates in the commissary float a little above the tables.
Music volume is sometimes too loud after reloading a save.
Rare issue with blowing up a brisance after it’s been hooked up.
Some sectioning issues when climbing on the rampart’s crenelations.
The sleeping rats’ colliders (in the barracks) are not active.
The collider for the lid of the shore chest is missing.
White (untextured) walls in catacombs corridor near the Great Hall.
Bees nests erroneously appear as items in inventory.

Changed:

Improved performance on the shore.
Improved textures quality.
You can now start a new game without having to close and reopen the app.
Pressing the RB/LB in the Lore UI now loops categories.
The new item marker “*” in the inventory now ignores consumables.
You can now change the game’s language on the fly (without having to restart).

EDIT:
Not exactly the same but kinda like detail textures of old. Very Happy

Im playing 7.33 now and the game is great; cant believe most of it was done by a single person. It reminds me of dark souls without combat for some reason, great atmosphere, great level design with maaaany shortcuts. It has some small things that i love and you are surprised while playing and find them like if you use a light with a map it shows extra info, using disguises you can talk with the enemy, different events depending on the day/night cycle and other things like these. Not having combat, i think its a very big plus. Not to mention, it looks fantastic.

I think there might be an idea brewing but nothing more than that at the moment, though indeed it would make (a lot Razz) of sense to have a continuation someday.
