Report on consumer exploitation effecting the games industry. Hopefully this shit gets banned in more countries and publishers are forced to make half decent games again.

An article:
https://www.techspot.com/news/94792-consumer-watchdog-report-loot-boxes-prompts-18-countries.html

I think this is the actual report: https://fil.forbrukerradet.no/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2022-05-31-insert-coin-publish.pdf

18 European countries looking at regulation and or banning it . I can't find a derp free non-commentated video so only the below link. If this shit gets banned maybe we get better games in future?

Quote:

“We call for strict measures, including a ban on misleading design, specific protection for minors and commercial transparency. National and European authorities and industry should ensure a safe and transparent environment for players”

I work in the sports and gambling industry, and in regulated markets, the games are far, far, far worse things than betting on sports. Like, you can not imagine the difference between those two things and how much more predatory the games are.

Games with loot boxes and microtransactions manipulate people from an extremely young age. And that's an enormous problem.

What blew my mind was the dollar value per player these companies attribute to in-game assets (like in the case of Diablo Immortal). I don't really play games with micro-transactions but had always thought the spend would be roughly $1-5K over 6-12 months if you were into one of these games.

Clearly wrong given a streamer spent $20,000 to get a single 5 star drop of which you need many in that game. There are players with $150,000 invested in a Diablo mobile game already. It's really crazy to me that it is so common for someone to put 5-6 digit number into a videogame.

Then you have the whole:
- Children play all these games.
- Buy 300-600-900 diamonds for the item shop, but all items are priced at 350,650,950 etc. WhAt WiLl I Do WiTh ThEReMainDer!?S - better buy another 300 pack to get some other useless shit.
- Most these monetizations are tied to RNG. Spend $20 to open lootcrate, watch pokie machine animation = receive shit grey hat better roll again Sad

It needs a flat ban and these games deleted and not developed anymore.

Lootboxes in games are the worst.

First everyone have access to it. Most people are dumb, kids are dumber. The game companies can manipulate the winnings on every level. Something has too high chance of appearing in the box or they do not make enough money just change a few things in code.

I'm glad there are countries banning this shit.

Streaming platforms need to ban gambling in gaming as well

Diablo Immortal is fueled by twitch streamers blasting their cash on these games, and why not? They make that money back easy with their viewers.

Worse still they inject these games with life by inspiring others to join in on the "fun", especially other whales to follow them suit.

Sure agree with that. In the case of Diablo Immortal many popular streamers made a point of wasting money on it to prove how predatory and stupid it was to play. The 20K spent for 1/150 loot drops surely must drive some of these imbecile players away.

I actually think the streamers are the only ones that can shine a light on how bad it is, else it just continues to slide under the radar. That Asmongold guy made enough noise and has enough followers for Ted Cruz to comment on it.

If these parasitic scumbags weren't so predatory with their tactics, these sort of games and practices might have gone under the radar.

I hope the entire world follows the trend of banning this crap. Or heavily regulating it all. Either way.

Gambling is everywhere now and it's out in the open Razz Even watching NBA basketball this year they really turned it up to 11. Every other ad is about gambling and before the game they have these 2 clown "analysts" giving you their picks for the over unders etc.
