In my case it is not about being able to afford it, but wanting to lower my consumption.

Wattage meter is good to have indeed..
Electricity prices will go up by 13500% later today in Sweden (for my region). No way i will be able to afford to run my computer, much less play any games with a 3090 lol. Glad i have the PS5 which at least has a way lower draw. My PC with its 7 HDD's + tons and tons of USB devices draws like 4x at least.. sure, this peak will most likely not be for the entire month but it's crazy..
"Wasting electricity" (=playing games, doing music with electronic equipment = my 2 main hobbies) will be a thing of the past soon i reckon, something only rich will be able to do. I mean it's fucking summer and the prices are peaking like this lol...

BTW, iconized, in a moment of seriousness: multi core CPUs are a lot more power efficient than single or dual core ones. When you disable your cores, you stress the other cores, causing higher usage, because the scheduler cannot take advantage of all the cores it expects. So your PC works for longer and wastes more energy. If you want to be more economic, undervolt and downclock all the cores in your CPU, instead of disabling them.
But I know, you just dunkirk, showing images from a VM, to seek attention.

How many processes are effectively multi threaded these day? The majority of my PC activities is watching youtube vids or vids from other sources.

the idea is that your pc is running 100s of processes simultaneously, and they get thrown around on all available cores
granted they are small processes while game processes take an insane amount of power, still do not underestimate the free cores for side processes
additionally idle cores get throttled down and undervolted
same goes for memory and GPU too
if enabled in BIOS
I have a 5950X (16 cores) + 3080 + 32GB ram OC + SSDs + HDDs
my "working state" power consumption is currenly 0.65 Amps, 130Watts, 21kW/h according to my watt meter for my PC case
my "gaming state" is over 400W
maximum theoretical pull for the PC case is over 650W
and I have a 850W Gold PSU

I will use that wattage meter to measure it.

I am also thinking about hiring a mechanic to change the CVW (central heating and warm water apparatus) to modify it to use a propane bottle instead of a gas subscription.

Usage is still pretty high here though, even with solar panels (4000 kWh a year) I'm still at 2500 kWh a year. |
2.5k per day wtf?!
Was it a walk in freezer? Lol. The only power consumption we have that's extra are electronic oil radiators. Two of them.
