Yea the original holds up really well even by today's standards! The new one is a mixture like previously stated, seen the first ep so far, not bad, although sometimes i find the CGI too jarring and noticeable. Deffo interested in picking up the manga when it's released in August

Can anyone recommend a show (or movie) in more recent times that is similar to the style and theme of Appleseed, Blame!, GITS, etc… that is more action oriented? Gore would be a bonus but doesn’t have to be over the top necessarily.

Alternatively, looking for something like rising of the shield hero. I think the genre/type is called Isakai? Any suggestions I should look out for? Thanks.

Just check here. Most are A-OK.

I do seem to recall watching now and then here and there a long time ago though. Was short, but quite epic

I wish someone recommended me more mature horror / sci-fi / dark fantasy anime without infantile shit or at least with as little as possible, no magical pedo girls, school and young teens as heroes. They produce so much shit I start to think that half of Japan are mangakas and animators.

Last watchable thing I started was a series about pyromancers firefighters fighting people changing into fire demons.

Psycho pass made me watch anime again.

Texhnolyze and Ergo is on my list. But thanks guys.

I checked my gogoanime list - what I added to watchlist (sometime ago) but maybe someone will find something for themselves:
SHINSEKAI YORI - for the premise.

MNEMOSYNE: MNEMOSYNE NO MUSUME-TACHI - for BDSM porn apparently.

ENEN NO SHOUBOUTAI - that's what I described earlier, didn't made me cringe and on ep. 7 liking it.

SCARLET NEXUS - because I played the game.

MEGALO BOX - seems ok.

Anything from Hiroyuki Imaishi.

AJIN - actually liked it.

Ishuzoku Reviewers - I think it's hentai.

KAIFUKU JUTSUSHI NO YARINAOSHI - I think it's revenge hentai.

Planetes

GUILTY CROWN

KAIFUKU JUTSUSHI NO YARINAOSHI - watched it, liked it.

Code Geass - I think everyone watched it, skipping the school filler episodes.

NO GUNS LIFE - actually I had read the manga but haven't seen the anime. The manga was great cyberpunk noir but as it seems the anime covers more story than the officialy translated comic book.

Planetes is really great and Megalobox has a really nice 90s style vision of the future, visually it reminds me alot of Cowboy Bebop.

I had a reply to you storm for your recommendations thanking you the other day. I think I forgot to hit reply. Sorry about that. Thank you!

Are there any modern military shows with decent CGI akin to “cat shit one”? I know it’s older but the details on the weapons was cool. Obviously gun porn heh.

he also did quite good manga about his and Miura's friendship (look for Kentaro Miura memorial manga) ... so i am hoefull that they can do it well

There are still plenty of mature and downright gut-wrenching mangas such as A Trail of Blood (highly recommended if you want to fuck your day up Laughing) popping up here and there, but to get such stuff animated is a whole another story (=budget), unfortunately.. Sad That sweet 90's-00's era of mature japanese mangas/animes is kind of gone, indeed.

Ultimately, cartoons are still mostly designed for kids and teenage people Razz

So watching Netflix Spriggan.

I have not read the manga so I don't know witch adaptation is more faithful but...

Netflix version very uneven animation and art quality, budget clearly went to fight scenes because they are animated in decent way, unfortunately they are way worse than in the original anime.

Also school, more infantile, the hero is 16 year old, constant exposition, the series is brutal but less gloomy than the original anime.

Feast your eyes (every moment has great composition):

And now Netflix:

Sad

I read the manga and found the last few volumes a pseudo-philosophical garbage, another thing I don't like in anime and manga. It's like reading wasted/high teenager's train of thoughts...
