I'd get the 13 pro, 512ssd and 16gb ram $2600 AUD > I've never needed more RAM or storage on my work laptop. Winds up the same price as and spec as Dell XPS Plus 13, but the Dell has an i5-1240P 10 processor.

Although i think Dell have ballsed up the inputs, 2 thunderbolt only, where one is going to be plugged in with cable. Apple have them beat there, I also prefer having an escape key.

The Lenovo 10th Gen X1 Carbon looks alright as well.

If you can manage on macOS, the m1/m2 machines are obviously winners. The issue is, there isn’t even a proper Linux distro yet that can boot natively in these Macs, let alone Windows.

@AmpegV4 : That thing costs $2.986,46 AUD here (2.010,27€).

You guys have better prices.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Why would you want to do that though, OSX is excellent? you can always virtualbox, vagrant or docker anything you need. If I'm heart set on Linux (i personally find more interesting / fun an OS) then I'd get the Dell XPS, I'm using one now to type this. The problem with that is no actual keys for del or esc, no headphone jack and 1 thunderbolt port if you have it on charge.. i can't delude myself into thinking this is a good idea.

Apple already made and reversed that mistake years ago. I'm gonna wait for some benchmarks as I think the M2 has better power efficiency than the Intel i5 1240p gen12, battery life is worth more to me in a laptop than 15-20% CPU performance.

I actually had the new XPS before this Mac, but I sent it back in the 30 day return window

After 20 years of buying laptops, PC trackpads are still hot garbage. The screen and everything else was nice, but the Mac is still better in just about every way

Having more RAM helps a lot with Windows VMs. Windows 11 runs really well in Parallels.

I don't think its released yet?. My 5yr old XPS 13 has been solid running Archlinux for day-to-day business/technical work etc. I frequently spin up 5-6 servers at a time with 512 / 16gb RAM combo, never been a problem (i rarely use Windows for anything though).

The Dell XPS 13 plus for comparison, its a gorilla glass based trackpad which could be smashable / un-repairable as well.

Prior to this i had the 2016 MBP, which was so reliable it was kinda boring. OSX as an OS just has everything you need out of the box and it works. Install homebrew, customise terminal, finished.

“OSX” used to be excellent. Now it’s just a hot mess, just like anything Software Apple touches these days. Their “engineering” prefers to focus on snowflake armchair woke activism, rather than be good developers.

My mistake, it's whichever one was 'the best' at the time I ordered it, the 13 inch model:

Pretty much agree, I think Dells the only other vendor that invests significant enough in R&D to compete. You can look at the tear downs of Mac's, Dell top end laptops vs. anything else and the rest look garbage.

[edit]
These M processors absolutely smash anything Intel or AMD have at the moment in the laptop segment. It's amazing.

Half the NM process,
Half the watts
In a lot of cases much better performance, kills the Intel Iris crap.
Double the battery life, over 20+ hours!

I'd have a mac for my laptop if not for their shitty keyboards. I got the MBP pro after they got rid of the flat-assed butterfly keyboards and still had problems with it with sticking keys etc. Shame as i liked it otherwise

I've never felt any attraction to apple hardware and I never will. Apple is ultra-scummy and do whatevery they can to rip off it's customers.

When it comes to OSX I have nothing against it but I have no reason to want to use it either.
