Anyone into classic p&p games? Just curious as i've just brought out my stuff and put it on a shelf so much nostalgia. Thank god it's all about to restart for me soon as i've got people who want to play again
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

I heard stories if you don't lose your virginity by 30 you'll become a wizard. I guess mage comes at 50?
Real talk always wanted to play. The culture left highschool when I entered if, it came back after I graduated. Missed it by 4 years and college was all video production and late nights no room for that. And then employment.
I also like women. May I suggest a character for you?
You are 23 years old and a female gnome. You are saving yourself for the prince that has yet to come along. Witchcraft is your hobby and you have acquired a diploma in medicine. You have knowledge of herbs and you are a skilled tea maker (drying the right plants). You shave your feet daily with the short sword you carry. The sword name is Harebane, it was given to you by your grandfather. Sharpening your sword is a daily routine.
Edit: You have purple eyes and reddish hair. At 2 foot and 7 inch you are a toll specimen.
Special recipes: Gingerbread Boon : Healing +8 during a day after consuming
I like to play as well Ankh! That is 3 of us, we can ask around.
Edit: @WaldoJ Your brother is general of the forth division of the Gnomish army. This army was founded to fight of the dwarves. During the reign of Loevikas Shortlegged gnomes were outcast and considered vermin...
I play, we (6 of us) have a game every saturday evening for Pathfinder. I cant think of the last weekend I didn't plan to, or at least planned to and it fall thru, play tabletop. Our current game is about 2 years into the campaign.
Ive been playing since 1992(?) I think havent went more than a few months since then without being in a game for something: Rifts, Pathfinder, D&D 2, D&D 3.5, GURPS..something.
And I am 99% the GM and rarely a player. Just ended up waaaay back in time I was the only one willing to read all the books to run it. And it stuck I was GM, and like it more than being a player honestly.
Id offer to let you join us @WaldoJ [we play online using Foundry VTT], if you can handle the style of play we do. Closest I can explain is if Monty Python Holy Grail was rated R (not R for sex, but for weird adult humor).
It has its serious parts to drive the story. But a lot of dark and twisted 'not really for kids' type humor.
Like a few games ago one player was seeing how many gold coins he could 'suitcase' and asking me what rolls he needs to make to see if he can 'tough it out' to cram more in and hold them..as he was going to jail and wanted bribe money. Or when somehow by accident of their own doing, they was riding around with 3 infant corpses in their carriage in a chest WHILE helping the small town that lost the kids...look for them for 2 days (long story..they ARE The good guys, just dark humor situation).
And its not combat heavy, about 1/3 of the time is combat the rest is traveling, role-playing, situation build up, etc.

I always loved the thought of it, but I don't know the rules, don't know where to start/what I need and I don't know anybody to play with and I'm not even sure that I have the time for it

@PumpAction@WaldoJ
You dont NEED to know the rules, the GM/DM has that job. It helps to know them and kind of expected after a long while of playing you should know at the ones that pertain to your class.
But no decent GM/DM should expect you to know anything just starting out. 1/2 my players never played before until they wanted to join and helped them through making the first character and had no idea how it worked first game other than "tell me how your character will react/act to things going on and I will tell you if you need to roll something to do that."
Now time IS a big factor. Depends on your group, some do 2 hour sessions, 4 hours seems about average, some do a lot more. We usually do from 7-8 hour sessions from 7pm to 3-4am every saturday.
And with being able to play online now knowing/finding people is super easy. The programs out there for it like Roll20, Foundry VTT, ect is pretty damn amazing for replication in person table top experience with 3d rolling dice, maps, character sheets, tokens, etc.
This is what I use to rum/GM mine and use discord for voice chat: (all the work/setup you see for each session for maps/story/etc is 'my' job. The players just show up and play)

You mean for you and your kids to play? If so yea, I recommend maybe 10(ish) as the lowest age to try to get one into it.
And unless you are the DM 99% of the stuff in that video doesn't matter to you for knowing. Its for the DM to use to setup the game.
If you joined a game as a player, all you need to worry about is one character sheet. The DM takes care of literally the entire rest of the world, its setup, its story, and every other creatures you can run into. You just show up and play in whatever they made.
And even then you dont NEED the maps, and lights, and walls, and all that. I do it because I like it, and I have the time to find new maps (I never reuse the same ones for other things) draw the walls, add lighting, decide what NPC/mobs are in the area, create sheets for them..etc.
I spend about 5-10 hours a week prepping/filling out/deciding what happened based on what they did last game in the world for them for the next session.
You CAN do old school 'Theater of the mind' where its all imagination and narrative no 'real' visuals. And just use the VTT for dice rolls and character sheets.
Playing is like...how do I explain it...
You and a group of friends are writing a fiction book real time, each of you creating the dialog of one the main characters as you go, however you can dream up to (there is no limits on what you can try), and the DM writes/dictates the story arc in real time based on what you guys do and how the world reacts to it.
With dice rolls determining if the thing you tried worked/didn't work. If that bluff or diplomacy attempt with a guard you tried worked..if your attack on a NPC/mob hit or missed..etc. And the DM playing out how that 'thing' reacted to your attempt.
Like about a month ago
-One of my players [my son actually] needed a bicycle. Found a kid with one ran over in a panic (he needed one quick) and offered the kid 5 gold, and a dagger for it. He did BAD on his charisma and diplomacy rolls, so the kid panicked thinking he was stealing his bike or was going to stab him for it and screamed.
So guard ran over to see from his point of view, a grown half orc brandishing a dagger and a fist full of coins staring at a crying child. So he thought: This man is robbing this kid of his cash and bike...and arrested him (which lead to the above post...of him working how many gold coin he could shove up his ass to bribe his way out of jail).
-Or the time he ran around kicking in front doors yelling at surprised people "WHERE DO I BUY A GOOD AFFORDABLE HORSE IN THIS TOWN??". He needed to catch up to the rest of the group quick, and tell them something important, and didnt know the town he just got there. (His choice to try to find one that way, I just make the world and things in it react to his choice).

Meant me. Lol.
These girls I will do what I can to get them into this kind of faggy shit if they're into it. The social points alone are worth it.
But yeah once they're old enough to sleep without daddys aid, and a month after feeling like a failure as a father since they dont want me reading them stories, I'll get into this hobby. Lol.
I really enjoy it. Why I been doing it for 30 years
Its akin to the most immersive, your imagination is the limit 'game' you can play. Like say you wanted to fly...you might not have wings, or anyway to fly...But I will let you run around flapping your arms like mad trying. Maybe you are trying to convince the guard you are insane by claiming you can, and then trying...who knows why you want to. I just tell you how the world reacts to it.
Run into bandits that try to rob you on the road?: Fight them and kill them, fight them steal THEIR stuff and tell them "hope you learned your lesson, now good luck walking 40 miles to town naked", Argue with them, negotiate with them, hire them, pay them not to rob you, kill one of them and then use that guys body to beat the others to death with just because you want to watch the horror in their eyes from that (had that happen)...anything you can think of to try you can.
Or..[had this happen too] fight flying baby drakes with flaming magical arrows in the woods, missing a lot and catching the woods on fire. Which then no one in the group can put out despite rolls to try, spreads and threatens a nearby village that now you have to go save [well dont HAVE to], telling them you caused it, or not telling them up to you. They claimed a giant red dragon they was fighting started it (got good rolls to lie and convince the town they was telling the truth), and talked the town into paying them money to kill the dragon that never existed. They got paid to 'fix' a problem they caused. The whole time the paladin player wanting nothing to do with the ploy, and telling the mayor of the scheme and then all ran out of town a week later for extorting the town of money. (and towns around it being sent messages to watch for this group trying to do the same to them).
Why I can't do rpg video games, no matter how branching the story can be..its all 'on the rails' to me. Just different limited rails to go down.
Tabletop has spoiled me for story driven action games by literally unlimited choices of how I approach a situation, or even if I want to approach it at all.
Think of it like if we had true real thinking AI in video games, both for everyone you meet, everything you fight, and not 'premade story' it created the story as you move around doing things. It's sort of like that.

Never use them anymore since we play online now. But I keep my old crown royal dice bag that was filled with them.

Have to get them all back from my son for a pic of them all at once. Since I started running a game online he wanted to try one in person with his friends, since he never did one that way. He only ever did online with me.
Only books I have at my house is my Rifts ones since I told him starting with rifts with its convoluted all over the place rules, stuff scattered across 30+ books, and on the fly house rules you need to make up that it doesnt cover isnt the most friendly 'New GM' system so he didn't take those.
He has all the rest at his place along with all my dice but my first set I ever got, I am keeping those. (He just moved out and excited to run one in person so he took them all to his house to figure out what he wants to/can figure out how to run).
Ignore how beat-up some of them are. Some are nearly 30 years old and was used a LOT..lol
