quake series was an engine n multiplayer game that modders made great , the single player game was not good at all compared to doom 1-2 , just an elitist bunnyhopper playground fragging noobs cause they knew the maps better n how to jump
quake 2 at least tried but half-life and unreal made people forget it in blink of an eye
^ neah. If the game wouldnt have been amazing it wouldn't have meant anything. Engine licensing wasnt a large enough thing yet. The graphics obviously played a big part, but not in the way they would do today. It was because they let them enhance the gameplay and design the levels in a new way. You play Quake 1 right now and you see the blueprint, one of them anyway, for all of 3d gaming after. You see multiple sequences that Half Life lifted straight from it. Some early scripted sequences which you can see adapted in Half Life.
Half Life never made people forget Quake, where is this coming from ? Quake was probably the only classic FPS that survived Half Life because it was so great. Unreal was the one forgotten in a blink of an eye. It had an unheard of development time that would be big even today, but HL coming out a few months later vanquished the game.
Quake 2 seems to also be id's best selling game until Doom 3
Quake 1 indeed is timeless with its solid fast-paced no-bullshit shooting, the remarkable gothic atmosphere and some cleverly designed levels (except maybe the final trololo boss ). It's as challenging as you want it to be, and fairly replayable as well since the structure isn't narrative-driven. The strong modding scene was/is the icing on top of the cake, with Arcane Dimensions surpassing the base game in terms of core gameplay and design.
Although it's obviously rudimentary in some ways, to me it's still a superior experience than all the backtothe90s(tm) indies released in the past few years that replicate the vintage low-poly style. I'll replay Quake 2 as well one of these days, though I remember liking it less than first one back then.
No need for OST remaster, they'll probably make it worse. It's almost perfect now.
"Descent Into Cerberon" is so mighty track, at first I played CD-rip version without music (from some pirated compilation CD) - still remember the shock when I got my hands on the full CD and 1) realized the game comes with actual music 2) the music is so good!
That also changed the way I played singleplayer - from cautiously moving from hall to hall and listening for the footsteps (without music), to full Rambo approach (with music)
I much prefer Quake 1 music myself. But also I was at the time (and still am to some extent) as big Trent Reznor fan.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Quake, we have collaborated with MachineGames to create a new episode, Dawn of the Machine, now available as a free update to Quake.
This expansive new episode features 19 all-new maps across a cohesive campaign, alongside a brand-new soundtrack and hidden secrets.
Hell yeah that’s cool.
Free if you own Quake Remastered!
Makes me feel 47 lol :/

free career adivce ; never ever work somewhere longer then 3-5 years ... loyalty doesnt pay at all . u gotta rack up pay increases by switching a lot like u hunt new customer bonusses on a mobile payment plan

DO not take this advice.
Nothing makes your next employers repeat treating like shit. Than them seeing 5-6 jobs of 3 or so years then out of there.
The real advice:
Dont work for shit companies to start with.
I worked at my last one 19 years. Got pay raises every year, free healthcare (rare in the US), a free stupid specced laptop every year I got to keep. Virtually unlimited personal days, just tell my boss and he'd go "Ok, no problem". While I admit my job was a unicorn job situation. Most my friends with 10+ years at a place would say the same. It's your job selection, not length of staying there that is the problem.
So if you are switching jobs every 3-5 years about loyalty issues. It's not that you need to do that, it's that you need to stop working places that do that.

You do know you eventually pay the difference back right? They just shift you paying right now, for tweaks to your other 'charges' over a year or such.
That new low rate, or 'free' phone is more: A pay other ways over time to eventually even out to what we would have charged you for the phone and switching, anyway.
I've been with my phone provider 15 years. I just call and ask what the lowest they can do for me on a new phone, or new rate is. They will just give it to you if you call and haggle. They don't wanna lose a 15 year customer They rather make some money, vs no money. I got 4 phones, $98 a month.
Switching you are just starting that loyalty power all over. And getting charged more long run, than if you just haggled with you current one.

That "think about you only, switch job every X year to be relevant" is some random tiktok BS kids these days get fed every day, and think they somehow have an upper hand in the game
I agree that finding a good employer is the key. And loyalty does have its place then. My last employer even came for help at midnight when something happened to the car and needed a quick ride
There's no magical formula for job hunting/mastering
Id go. My (ex)boss was a friend in my eyes and vice versa.
We played games together, shared shit that happened: His new grandkid, his daughter getting married, etc.
When I got let go for doing time. He was the one fighting until the end (and then some arguing with them) to keep my job. Then helped me with contacts, references, and such he knew that he could dig up to help me look for a new one when he lost his fight for me.
And called me every week to see how I was doing, even gave me $1200 to help pay my mortgage a week ago (I'm a broke AF mf'er right now)
I suppose its on how you see your boss, and how they see you. And not simply based on if they are your boss.
