Random, appeared close to one of my lumber mills one time.
But you hear a voice and then you can see him on the map with a dot, kinda like the dots you have where you own heroes are.

@Various questions:
The Collector Edition dragon is sadly only a new skin for the existing Goblin dragon.
The other CE skins are only on the mumakils and eagles I believe.
Hamachi works without any messing around. Just create a network, have someone join the network, then both of you run BFME2 and join LAN, you should both see eachother and be able to chat, then just make a game and join.
Gollum is always on the map unless you TURN OFF "Ring heroes" in the game setup options. He is perma-stealthed though so you need to walk a unit right next to him for him to pop out. You need to kill him and he will drop the ring. When the ring is dropped it is visible to everyone on the minimap.

sTo0z, CE also should have new maps and new looks for your custom heroes and new graphics effects (like those huge fireballs and tornados)... those not nice?

Are there only two heroes you can build when you fetch the Ring? (Sauron and "trueform" Galadriel)

Bloody game companies have such a sh*t policy against NOT supporting NATs even with LANs. No idea whats the deal with the industry. I have to go direct-connect to the high-speed modem and that blowz in 2006. Back in the early 000s it was not likely I needed to do this although now its too commonplace that NATs are not supported. BfmE had this prob as per usual. EA is terrible at support NATs. Hope this has changed.

it works behind router, but it require some discipline: if someone wants to join your created game on lan, tell him to wait till he sees the status box of the created game, and wait another 20 secs then join. why? cos otherwise he'll get 99% of time a connection timeout. the game suffers of lots desyncs as reported in official forums.

Is that Router + LAN + Over Internet? Thats like simulating DirectIP like the good old days. Sad that frick'n game companies are doing away with that. A*ses..

Has anyone tried playing a skirmish map on hard? I am playing hard with -20% handicap and it's a great balance. This is more reminiscent of BFME hard difficutly level. So far playing against the Goblins has been the most moviesque. The AI made the Goblins huge silver Dragon appear and my level 10 Gandalf took it out with his Light attack. This game is really rocking. In my current game it's so back and forth I could probably play for 10 hours if I wanted to.
Also, the other day I was attacking the castle of Mordor on hard. Mordor had the ring and all the sudden Sauron himself walked out. You could here a voice say "It's Sauron himself". I had some archers attacking the castle. He walked over to them and with a swing of his mace they went flying! Awesome!! He had some cool powers too, like fear and a meteor strike. My created hero did very well but Strider almost died. I killed Sauron and that death wave blew past my heroes and it didn't knock them over.
Does anyone have any great BFMEII moments they could share, it's awesome reading!
Great game!

|
 |
I read somewhere that the Collector's Edition offers customizations for custom heroes, and a controllable fire-breathing dragon. Since I noticed a similair dragon in the RELOADED release, I was wondering whether the RELOADED release is the Collector's Edition's version of the game?
If so, the CE should have more playable maps. Are they integrated in the base game, or are they on the 2nd DVD (which is missing from the RELOADED release)?

So, the CE has Helm's Deep? Is Reloadeds BFMEII release the CE? I have played Helm's Deep in the Reloaded release and it is fantastic. I only played it against one cpu opponent. Minas Tirith is also spectacular.

There are no special/custom graphics for CE edition, the only "special" thing you get for your hero is a little star that floats over your custom hero's head.
There are no extra spell graphics, the tornado is the Good army Ring hero.
Hamachi work fine, I have personally tested a game over the internet with both players behind routers.
EDIT: Oh yes, there WERE extra maps for CE, but EA released them for everyone to download.

Zero, we didn't open any ports or do anything special, just ran Hamachi, connected over Hamachi, then both ran BFME2 and joined LAN network.

Also, the spell @ the end (green cloud thingie) doesn't look familiar to me...
Where did those spells go then?
