Since 2014? Donetsk and Lugansk are still warzones for 8 years already with both Russian and Ukrainian insurgency groups attacking here and there. Donetsk and Lugansk have claimed independency from Ukraine together with Crimea but are not annexed by Russia. Maybe things are calmer now but those military exercises in Belarus and fuckin Biden creaking every day about "Russia will attack any moment" ain't helping. Personally, I don't think Russia will attack Ukraine. More like it will continue the propaganda and support rebel groups inside the latter and tear it apart piece by piece.

That proxy war has dialed down in the eye of the people or the press. Nobody cares about that anymore, even if the conflict has been going on for years. I was clearly talking about all the fuss the press is making to panic people about Russia attacking Ukraine.

I read some time before the attack on Ukrain that game developers there where already sluicing things/data and servers abroad. It is more a question that you can put your game assets elsewhere but your family is much harder and more important.

i can't imagine GSC will recover from this, and it seems like they were pretty far into development  huge loss for everyone involved, including russia, who seemed most into Stalker in the first place!
i'm hoping GSC do a fundraiser to get back into it and people give a shit about it, but ultimately i can't imagine going from game development to losing everything and then just waltzing back into it like nothing happened. |
I am sure they made backups and stuff from everything before leaving the office behind. Its not like everyonme left as soon as 1 rocket flew. |
i'm sure they took critical assets with them too, but i suspect many key staff wont return, and those that return won't be quite the same.. it's not quite so simple to back people up, you lose the very people that drive the game, actual development pipelines, critical funding and even your hardware/development ecosystem. GSC really came out of nowhere with the development of stalker 2 and many suspect it was in fairly rough shape, this could deal a serious blow to it in many respects even if everyone is unhurt.
i wasn't banking on stalker 2 being GOTY and perhaps this is poor taste to even mention given the gravity of the situation, but it's sad knowing that stalker 2 and GSC may never get a fair chance to shine now.
