Dark Souls 3 was better. Perfect, even, don't know why they changed the formula. Bosses are harder here, artificially, my +13 claymore does shit damage. I'm at Morgott now, lvl 58, I already beaten one boss today, can't handle another one.

Morgott? Is the next boss Sauroon? Very Happy

GRMM: "i have a great name for that Boss for you i came up with it yesterday - MORGOTT!"
Elden Ring Dev: "woah... that sounds so dark yet so familiar somehow, we'll take it!"

Yup. But unlike JRRT, JRRM will not be remembered because he isn't finishing his series, no one remembers an author like that.

He'll be remembered, but it'll be as a hack and a sell out. That said, I will admit GRRM did the world some good by inspiring better authors like Joe Abercrombie.

Patrick Rothfuss is another author who will hopefully be remembered as nothing but a hack.

he's not wrong, the game runs like shit on powerful rigs too, constant drops under 30 at random. I can't see AAA improving much either, sales havn't been hurt by releasing crap, unfinished stuff etc. over the years.

Most people get stuck at the second non-optional boss because they're trying to play it like it's Dark Souls 3 (and it is kinda like it but it has more mechanics), but it's honestly just a case of:
1. Get better gear/lvl (~lvl 20-30 should be a good minimum for a non-masochist try).

To me this is the biggest issue, people hit a wall on a boss and instead of taking the hint and exploring and getting stronger, they just smash their head against wall 20+ times.

In my case I tried Margit once at level 12 then came back a few hours later at level 31 after going around killing minibosses and completely wiped the floor with him.

It isn't Dark Souls where there might only be one path of progression open (though Dark Souls always generally had areas you could go to and get stronger if you were stuck), most of the world is open to you as soon as you finish the tutorial.

The more I play it the more I'm starting to understand the review scores.

@Yondaime Agree with everything, except the dungeons I've found so far were all pretty basic, like Bloodborne chalice dungeons, not that interesting.

At first I was a little overhwelmed with the size of the world and also too disappointed with the performance... but now, after 20hs, I also agree, this game is a masterpiece.

I tried it on my brother's family share before getting it myself after seeing that I didn't have any of the major performance issues in my game, like with frame drops with the first tree sentinel or whatever boss.

But the more I play, the more it feels like sometimes the game just eats your inputs, and not because of spamming inputs, like when dodge is the only thing you press, and it's your first dodge, you just stand there and eat the attack.

Then there's the weird input lag that happens sometimes. Though that's probably from the frame drop / stuttering that I don't notice in the heat of the moment.

So turns out you can summon multiple fodder npc's to help you even during the boss fights and *still* some gamejournos are screaming about "muh easy mode!1". Wow Laughing

Just waiting for an anti-stutter patch. FPS can be uncapped and from what's out there, it doesn't sound like it's causing any issues.

Tried the isodemo with a few more user suggestions (from the placebo reddit threads) and still nothing makes a difference

Not to mention the Wonderous Physick, can give you hp regen and heavy damage resistance. PLUS the boss runs are quite short now.

That being said, the first main boss you fight has a ton of HP, i wasn't able to take him down till i pumped vigor quite a bit, i think i was level 30. And it ended up being one of those classic no flask, can't see the red of my HP bar when i finished.

Uncapped frames don't help when the game drops to -30fps periodically with 3XXX series cards.

He certainly couldnt have contributed much. Writing is very japanese in its weird way and the setting is dark souls. I have no clue what i can point to and say "this must be george"

proll somekind of Tom Clancy kinda deal where they just slap the name on lt. In this case it has more mass appeal so ppl who usually wouldnt be interested in it would buy it.
Besides GRRM has another excuse not to finish the book series, so the deal isnt just extra income for him.

the story is standard dark souls stuff.

its only marketing, they wanted his name because at the time he was big, perhaps the biggest.. they paid when he was at an all-time-high you can say, and now at an all-time-low almost Wink no one cares about GRMM.

Good to hear some positive reviews, will definitely play when i've finished Forbidden West, hopefully they are better with patches than they usually are.. i didn't notice a lot of stuttering on the PS5, but i want whatever there is gone.

this game is magnificent

this is what dark souls 2/3 should have been instead of the heaps of shit that they are. this is a true successor to demons/dark souls 1.

also if you are having trouble with stutters go to nvidia control panel and set shader cache to unlimited

ingame set everything to high

turn reflections to low
ssao/shadows medium

won't stutter anymore!

Summons are pretty strong, no? I beat Margit on my second attempt after summoning a Jellyfish that dealt poison damage and pulled the boss away from me when I needed to heal or replenish FP, and that's a lowly Jellyfish. Laughing

Edit: Beat Godrick on second try, too, all thanks to Jelly bro.

Don't sleep on him, he's really useful for pulling bosses away from you when you need a breather, and you can also get a few hits in when they're focused on him.

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Gonna try the isodemo tonight, men. It seems to be the most accessible souls game to date, from what I've gathered, with some quality of live additions, like respawning closer to bosses and stuff.
Got to at least see this masterpiece with my own eyes Laughing
