I don't usually go ape shit over tech demos but this one really grabbed me. It shows off the new Far Cry on the 360 in a split screen with the orginal Far Cry for PC. There was a pc tech demo video out a little while ago that showed some special features, I would assume that this one would be included in a updated PC version of the engine too. This is hands down the best water effects I have ever seen. The same feeling I had when I saw the water for the first time in the orginal Far Cry for the pc.

Finally my ign insider subscrition came into use. The ripples were good and the models were too but you're looking at 2 years better techonology. back then 8x lighting was new and wasn't mastered. And I love the final second. The PC version when shooting the water is a million times better than the farty xbox 360 1! Give me source water anyday.

if you wanna compare games, then you d have to compare instincts to crysis and not the original.
compared to crysis, instincts is nothing.

How is that a fair comparison, Crysis won't be out for ages.

its an unfair comparison really. but the xbox 360 water effects are very nice, but i would hope the effects in any new game would be as good.

crysis is scheduled for q3 2006, so its not THAT far away (if no delays happen...). This new xbox 360 far cry game stil uses a heavily modifies cryengine 1, but its certainly no comparison to the crysis graphics. Still looks nice though.

original far cry is already 2 years old, crysis is less than a year away,
so if you have to compare instincts to something, then rather crysis.

Well, you can compare to "The Project" water if you have ATI video card. But even that is too old. Hope to see more videos soon of this nice game and nice engine.

The waves in X360 version are coming from those rocks at the end of the movie???
How is that possible?

That was such a BS comparaison made for the console fanboys. a 3 years old engine vs a brand new one...and they didnt even use FarCry 64bit version just to make it look crappier.

They should made the test with something like HL2: Loas Coast with full HDR

LOL, it looked fucking awesome, is that hard to accept?

I wonder what the water looks like in Crysis.

Yes but noone else has commented on how the water reacted when shot. The PC version was much better (maybe a little over the top) but it was still better looking.

I feel like a broken record here.

360 dynamically allocates 48 unified shaders across the vertex and pixel rendering pipeline.

This is super efficient, and is still not possible on the latest generation PC GPU's.

ATI invested millions on this so us 'console fanboys' can enjoy this wonderfull technology. There next move will be to invest all this commitment into their next GEN video cards, supporting direct X 10

if you had two grand (£) which would you buy:

1, PC with 19" monitor twin PCIE 1900 XTX video cards P3 3,4 gig/Athlon 64 and 200 gig hardisk

2, Xbox 360 Premium, and Sagem 50" HD TV flat panel TV.

I know which would be the most relaxing hassel free and immersive experience.

Wow! I was highly surprised by that comment.

Does that PC come with an internet connection?

Sure it looked awesome, but I am getting pretty tired of water looking good.. The next step to dazzle me is to get some decent water reactions going on.

I remember when I read a Source question and answer thing a long time ago, the question was like "If a container is filled with water and the container brakes, will the water spill out?"

And Gabe was like "No."

So far all I ever see is some simple footsplashes, other simple splashes that don't affect the water at all.

Where are the dynamic wave generation that realisticly collide with other currents in the water? Wink

Bodies of water have always been tremendously static in my eyes, I hope some tech comes out eventually that mimics some liquid behavior, that is what I'm waiting for.

Anyways... yah it does look sweet. Smile But when will it act sweet?

A bit of topic from the water discussion but I was quite surprised to find out this contains the original Xbox Far Cry Instincts single player and multiplayer as well as an all new game which is of course Far Cry Instincts Predator!

May the NFOrce be with you always.
