Finished on 3rd difficulty, quite a bit of a challenge. Will try to clear all Valkyries, the only thing I did not do on the PS4, could not beat the final one Cool

I played for a few hours on the hard difficulty, and I like it. I tried the give me god of war difficulty, and it felt like Kratos was hitting the enemies with a teddy bear instead of a weapon. Laughing

Main story is the easiest part. Hardest in this game are Valkyries and the side stuff in Musfelheim and Nilfheim. Specially in give me god of war. On give me a challenge once you manage to get endgame armor its easy.

still early in the game, but as a long fan of the series and given the reviews was expecting different, that i got, but not know if i really wanted it with this series. this is not really a god of war game anymore, it is some sort of reboot, changed genres. they took a character from a world and made something different. this is not a hack and slash game anymore, more emphasis on strategic combat with rpg elements, its like going from ac 1 to valhalla but also changed camera perspective.

combat on hard just feels too spongey for me, the lowest level of enemy should not take so many hits before going down, maybe later it gets better but the beginning isnt enjoyable.

still one could not acknowledge the quality of everything in this game, everything is top notch even if gameplay is not revolutionising, the many small details like characters expression that add to the game that you could easily miss if not paying attention.

everything is scaled down from the previous games, but still feels big because camera is closer though.

still idk about the norse setting yet, but i like the fish out of water situation.

its a really long game, did non expect. previous ones you could finish them in like 5h. going for all sidequests and finding chests, exploring is nice, feels like witcher 3.

Yes, I just got to point where the game opens up (river of nines or whatever), and it's pretty nice.
Main gripe I currently have is that the map can't be zoomed in by a lot, so lots of markers are overlapping (I know you can filter, but still).

The fov fix (I'm using flawless widescreen) is also a welcome addition. Although I sometimes forget to activate it before starting to play, and it's rather ok. I thought it would be bother me more, as it did with Hellblade, but it's somehow implemented better here.

But it's silly how the game then forces your character to walk sideways, just so it can show some fancy visuals over Kratos' shoulder Laughing (like the part with the tree/turtle)

I finally grabbed the iso and joined the Technoviking's troubled voyage with his boy till the very end. It was..a pretty standard tripe-A console action affair with a fetish for artificial cinederpmatic oomph, but when we take into account the tragic state of big-budget single-player games these days, it still qualified as a respectable time waster in my book. Nowhere near as superlative as advertised, but then again the journoinflation has been a tradition with first-party console games for decades now, so I wasn't surprised to see yet another entry to the long list of overrated Metacritic masderpieces Razz

It has its moments though, the audio-visual department is solid - minus the laughable default FOV, the writing is competent for once and the experience is polished. Problem is, although the game ultimately doesn't really commit any capital sins, its elements are offered in a rather shallow way and neither of them could properly scratch my itches. God of Blueball. I found the Penny Market Soulslike combat and the enemies too repetitive to be fully rewarding (the highest difficulty makes things exponentially worse), the level design too confined to provide a truly satisfying exploration, the platforming too awesomebutton-y, and the cinematic handholding way too much on the nosy side. A bit of a shame, boy!

Still, after the initial tedious hours and after Kratos started unlocking some actual skills, the game got better and I definitely enjoyed it more than the classic titles on PCSX2, so there's that. 7 cinerunes/10. Now stop fooling around and add that bloody Bloodborne to the list, Sony.

Aye, I enjoyed God of War enough to get the platinum trophy on PS4, but cmon Sony, you know that everyone is waiting for Bloodborne, hell I've finished the game in its sorry state with broken framepacing so many times and yet I've been putting off the DLCs for the time I can finally play it in 60 fps (or even 120 imagine that).
But I forgive you Sony, this one time, just cuz we are getting fucking Elden Ring in only a month, your deadline has been extended by a year.

I've finished it on Friday. One of the most polished games I've played, I don't remember the last time I've played the game (day one after the release) and have zero issues so, kudos to Sony for that.

Not GOTY but will most likely have a place in my Top 10 best games this year. Most maps (except lake one) are to small and handhold you all the time (it is difficult to miss secrets). Not so many characters but the ones that are in, are great (except ghost fetch quest which were just meh..). The story itself was great, and I cannot wait for the sequel. Wonder how many years it will take Sony to port the sequel as I cannot imagine playing it on pad.

What I've absolutely hated is that grind in Niflheim/Muspelheim. It is no fucking fun at all, and you need it to 100% the game (which I obviously didn't).

It would be 9/10 but is 8/10 due to those "grind worlds". Nevertheless it is worth playing and paying for Smile

What I didn't like about the game is the fact that they don't show up valkiries locations and you have to resort to google/youtube to find them. They could have added info in the quest logs or something. Feels cheap to follow 'google' guides.

What do you mean? They are all basically in Odin’s chambers or in optional realms.

Once you have ability to unlock hidden chambers most of the Valkyries are easy to find (at least I didn't have problem with that). The only 2 I've googled where in those grind worlds when I've basically said fuck it and went straight to main story and finished it. This is why it pissed me off that much, not only you cannot finish Valkyries quest but a lot of gear is just locked for you if you don't want to grind. I'm not a fan of such mechanics to artificially extend playing time.

BTW Valkyries locations are revealed on the map after you finish the main quest.

Agree 100% on the grindy realms. What i did is just move the difficulty down to easiest and knock them out as fast as possible and then return to the real game.

My biggest gripes are the repetetive trolls and the limited amount of boss fights. If I remember correctly I either finished this on the highest or one below the highest difficulty on the ps4 pro and the last valkyr was a mean BITCHHHHHH!

Yea there are really too few boss battles, the optional Valkyrie one on highest difficulty was tough and very memorable though.
I think I played on 2nd highest difficulty though, feel like the highest one was too spongey and took ages to kill normal mobs.

Only have some minor gripes so far, like the map not zoning the different areas properly.

Axe throwing is super annoying on controller, too, but that's hardly the fault of the game. Razz

Playing on normal difficulty, it feels just right for me. I play these kind of games mostly for the exploration. Difficult fights sometimes take 2 or 3 tries, so it doesn't reach the point where it gets annoying. I haven't died as much as I'd initially thought I would Laughing

Yeah normal is the best difficulty imo. The higher ones are just annoying, you get one shot constantly and everything is a damage sponge. NG+ with the Zeus armor does make it tolerable though.

- Hey team-dev, how do we increase difficulty and time spent in our games?
- Simple, boss. We up the monster(s)' HP to ludicrous levels. The player, after striking the boss for the 375th time, will get bored and stop being focused. At that point, we one-shot his ass back to the start for the fight!

Silly games with time-wasting sponge enemies...

Yeah, and considering the character you play, spongy enemies don't make much sense anyway. It shouldn't be too hard, I feel, the power fantasy is part of the experience, and it's pretty damn sweat (on regular difficulty). Pulling those werewolves' faces apart doesn't get old Laughing Laughing
