Won't reflect the true figures as only 19% of PC players purchased through Steam and EA don't release figures for Origin users nor the actual numbers for console.

The 19% came from some tweet from Tom Henderson. 2042 apparently sold 4.23 million copies in week 1, we do not know what the total PC copies sold from then till now are, nor do we know the split of PC / console.
As we don't know the PC / console split we can't determine the total PC user base of Steam and Origin but I take his % figure with a grain of salt.
Imo either the sales % is much lower for Steam and much higher on Origin or the predominant split is more console than PC.

They did that in Battlefield 5 as well where they would remove game modes to try and funnel more players into certain modes to try and keep the game servers alive and busy. Dice just do not seem to learn from their mistakes.

I mean, EA is a colossal company with huge PR department. They should fucking sack all the clueless SJW things from Dice or fucking close it and release a usual empty statement. Twitter would explode for a while but nothing would happen in the long run.

Is it really that dead player base wise though? I jumped in several rounds last night after not having played for a few weeks and the queue to get in 128 man conquest (the only mode that matters) was never longer than 15 seconds each time (this was on NA servers at 1-3 AM in the morning mind you).
I don't know about this whole using Steam charts to gauge Battlefield health - everyone I know purchased via Origin key or through Origin itself. I made the mistake of buying ONE EA title on Steam (more out of curiosity than anything), and I'd never do it again. Launching a launcher on top of a launcher just to boot something is fucking stupid.
Don't get me wrong - the game's probably a lost cause in terms of any real issues ever being addressed, but these doom-saying player count numbers people keep throwing around appear to be pure bullshit from an impacting game-play perspective. |
I don't think that the game is dead yet. I do believe that the number of active players has been in decline for weeks regardless of Steam or whatever charts. The game was released in very poor state and still there are no major annoucements regarding the upcoming changes, fixes etc. The reason is probably that EA is probably considering different options internally but players wont wait forever.
It's so sad what BF games had become but having a look what EA has done to so many other games, Battlefield seem to be no exception. No wonder DICE veterans left for not having any freedom in their projects.
