Forget Grand Theft Auto for a moment. Rockstar Games aims to innovate in a different way, in a different genre, without a single gun.

March 3, 2006 - Earlier this week I spoke with Rockstar's COO Terry Donovan about Rockstar Games' newest endeavor. He had hinted earlier in the summer that Rockstar was working on something new and that I wouldn't believe it when I heard it. Knowing the guys at Rockstar I asked if they were taking Grand Theft Auto online and I rattled off some classic action movies. They just shook their heads. No. The look on Donovan's face was priceless. He had some gem of a game in the works, and that's all I was going to get, this little hint. But I'm a patient man, and Rockstar rarely, if ever, under-delivers.

sorry dudes, but rockstar don't ALWAYS deliver...

Midnight Club isn't very good compared to the others out there and State of Emergency was absolutely dreadful.

Table tennis sounds a bit dodgy to me, but we'll see! At least its a bit original, can't be worse than Outlaw Tennis!!

Since when? Midnight Club 3 is the best underground racing game to have been released.

Warren Spector : I never minded piracy. Anyone who minds about piracy is full of shit. Anyone who pirates your game wasn’t going to buy it anyway!

Yeah right, imo it sucks even for an arcade racer.

Or, maybe it´s just too arcadey for me.

Midnight club isn't the best at all. Not even close IMO.

Maybe in true Rockstar fashion, they'll be a controversial element, like a mini-game where you can play as a vietnamese prostitute and fire ping pong balls out of your flaps.

If you're reading Rockstar.... DO IT!!! I'D BUY IT!!!!

I liked the Midnight Club series as well Slowghost, I think what set it apart from other racers was the extremely open ended and varied racing modes, plus the design of some of the levels. As very basic examples the way that you could take shortcuts to some checkpoints by nitroing off ramps over huge expanses of water or cut through malls or take ramps up onto the roofs of buildings - The races never got boring or repetitive.

I also loved the progression in the game the way that as you played you would unlock more and more cars, even bikes and special moves, special moves that actually enhanced the fun factor of the racing and aren't present in any in any other racing game within this genre.

Roll on the remixed edition of Midnight Club 3 this month.Very Happy

As for the Ping Pong sounds like it could be one of those gaming concepts thats so simple that it could be brilliant, I liked the talk of online leaderboards by the guy that did the interview - I would have been even more sold on the game though if they had talked of some form of Ping Pong controller/peripheral for the game making it not only a showcase of the Xbox 360's raw power but a fun novelty game in the vein of something that Nintendo would put out.

I quite liked state of emergency, the amount of people on screen at any one time was great considering it was for the PS2. I actually completed it.

hahaha, yeah right - im not sure whether im turned on or repulsed by that vision (if I can say such a thing without people thinking im in any way confused about my heterosexual sexual status).

Would be nice to see them stick in a madcap story mode like that Asian movie about Ping Pong.
