The game has a fluid combat system with tons of variations to pick, unlockers (permanent ones as well that stick) and different strategies involved, all spiced with pretty retro visuals, but sadly its (extreme) rinse-and-roguelike approach required to progress doesn't quite push the right hack 'n slashy buttons for me.
I prefer when the challenge comes through a more tangible sense of progression and meaningful exploration instead of the signature "die and start all over again from scratch! x 10^n". Oh well, hopefully my body that's craving for Metroidvania games will find solace in Hollow Knight *soon*

Yes!!! Hollow Knight is the best, new expansion out soon too. For some extreme goodness youtube hollow knight the path of pain. Optional path, no real spoilers just a bit of lore, but it makes super meat boy look like a child's game.
Hollow Knight is the best fucking indie game I ever played and also up there with the very best Metroidvanias.
Simply sublime game design in all areas.
It rocks! Nice visuals, great monster designs and dungeons.
Still some way to go until I get close to the main boss char, but definately worth the 18€

Just managed to beat the Hand of the King on the 43rd run with a Tactics build Bloody hell it was satisfying. I had a bit of luck though, managed to grab a legendary Death Orb at the Time Keeper and a Wolf Trap before the final encounter, those made it fairly easier, but avoiding the boss' attacks is still a major pain in the ass. It was my 5th encounter with him, death after death, after death, after death..
But that's the beauty of this game. It's not just your character who evolves with upgrades, your skill as the player also improves until you conquer the challenges and come out successfully on top with a huuuge sense of achievement.
Slick, fast, hugely enjoyable combat mechanics with fluid and responsive controls, beautiful art style, this game is bloody amazing. Easily one of the best indie games this year!
A FREE DLC!?!? ARE YOU MAD?:
Since we began development on Dead Cells, many years ago now, we’ve been completely blown away by the amazing reaction of the community. Without your support and feedback we wouldn’t be where we are today. Rise of the Giant is our way of saying thank you. Here’s a free DLC with a bunch of new content, mostly aimed at the people who have been hanging around since day 1, it’s high level and should offer more challenge than most sane people would think reasonable.
Features:
New levels: You’ve got a new level that’s connected to the main level structure and immediately available to anyone who’s finished the game at least once. You’ve got another (poorly) hidden level, for the masochists who know that there is a Boss Cell 5
New Bosses: Mirroring the above, you’ve got a new completely different type of boss available in the main level structure, with another INSANELY difficult boss hidden behind even more ridiculously difficult content.
New content: There are 10 new enemies, 13 new weapons/skills and a bunch of other upgrades to core game systems. There are additions to the story/lore of the game, new secrets, new blueprints and…
Skins: People have been requesting this for ages and we’ve finally found the time to make the necessary changes to accomadate the request. You’ve now got access to female skins, fluro skins and a christmas tree skin, cos why the hell not.
On top of these major changes we’re continuously trying to update the game in ways that make it more challenging and more just, all the while remaining open to new players. As such you will notice that the difficulty has been rebalanced so that the entry level of the game, while extremely challenging is now in line with the 5 extra difficulty levels available to those who like to suffer.
We hope that you like Rise of the Giant and would like to remind you that we’re not done, we’ll be continuing to make content for the game for as long as you keep demanding it, so feel free to let us know what you’d like to see and if we can make any changes that would make you happy.
Dead Cells is getting a brand new FREE DLC, with two new levels and new bosses! Check it out in this funny little animated trailer we made with the guys from Bobby Prod. Music by Yoann "Valmont" Laulan. Here's our intractable (anti?)hero getting his first taste of the kind of challenge that we're planning to bring you on March 28th 2019. Prepare to get your butt kicked, but have a bunch of fun and laughs while you're at it! We hope...
Dead Cells marks an essential stepping stone in the unstoppable rise of the rogue-like subgenre. The game’s tremendous success is attributed to the incredible creativity that went into making it. But it’s also a testimony to the flexibility of this gameplay framework that has taken many shapes and forms before and after this praiseworthy release.
(This article is based on a press copy of the game provided by the developer.)
Pros:
+ A solid mix of rogue-like and metroidvania
+ Fantastic combat
+ Progression system
+ Great replay value
+ Retro art style
+ A free DLC
Cons:
– It’s extremely difficult to follow the story
For the vets of Dead Cells, how important are those timed rooms? I could never stand not getting them, and i would basically rush through the levels trying to get the upgrades.. but never enjoyed the game because of it. I beat NG i believe and lost interest in NG+
it's text-to-speech (AI model).. saw some youtuber explain it a while back (more like an ad for the app...) you just just talk for 10 seconds or whatever and then you have a model of your voice and you can write your reviews instead of talking, the app does the talking for you.
Her examples sounded way better, this dude doesn't know what he's doing, likely new to it, or the person demonstrating it spent an immense time to make it sound good to shill for the app (maybe even faked it by just using a recording and not the app), i don't trust any youtubers really since many does way too much money
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
