Could be 101 reasons. "Fresh install" nor "stock install" means really anything for ability to crash (software or hardware) for various reasons.
Not defending windows itself. Pointing out "How does this happen on a basic install", the answer is the same as one installed for 5 years: Many many possible reasons some unrelated to the OS at all and either software or hardware, some related to it.
I have a laptop here, if I turn on webcam while anything is using the GPU..it blue screens. 2 windows installs later. figured out its a hardware/webcam issue. |
The thing is, I dont have similar issues on Debian Linux.

Yes, it will never be your drivers or hardware Windows is to blame, and nothing to do with the utter shit that is constantly updating and aging hardware, and breaking the backbone of one's system?
To assume 'Its windows 10. it MUST be windows fault" is a daft as "It cannot be windows".

Odd, I cannot think of a single SysAdmin I work with that has not had issues with Linux at some point or another from updating the linux kernel, compatibility with hardware drivers, software updates locking/crashing the system (venders fault), or network issues from repo builds for AD cross domain controller.
Good example latest version of Alwan/Adobe Preflight for PDF eventually hard locks/crashes linux with a memory leak. Windows one is fine. (Not that windows version hasn't had its issues with it before, but linux does too).
Another: SwitchFlow corrupting PDF files just months ago after a linux kernel update. That cost me a whole weekend while multiple customers/clients scrambled to work out a different way to rename/route/make version compliant PDF files to plate as they could not roll back due to a security risk the kernel update patched.
All easily fixed once the reason/root was found and sorted, but it happens.
They love linux for the stability and uptime, hate the gamble of updating anything on it to stay compliant with updated security protocol/revealed vulnerabilities.
What version of magical linux you using? I'll pass it on to them maybe they do not know about that one.

These articles are getting out of hand. The issue is not related to Zen, Zen+, Zen2, Zen3,...
It could affect Intels upcoming heterogenous architecture as well, if you were to test it with an unpatched Windows 11. The OS shedules processes wrong on physical threads, it doesn't respect the NUMA infomation it is given. The patch arrives next week. Ignore the clickbait.

Have Windows 11 installed on server now for ~5 days and I must say that with some small changes it's pretty decent. I reverted back to old context menu as the new one is too slow. Another issue I've found is clicking close on notification/tray popup doesn't remove them from notification center anymore (which is a bit weird, as you now need another click to the notification center and remove them there, which needs another click to hide the calendar, but OK). Some text isn't fully rendered for whatever reason and cuts off in some apps. Start menu is fine-ish, I don't use it much but it responds well enough and seems to find things better than W10's as that always found stuff I never used. Windows Terminal is nice. New settings app is also an improvement as you don't need to click Home anyomore when you need to go another setting. New explorer UI is also nice, a bit slow at times but they seem to have fixed that in latest insider build. They should've delayed it for half a year (they made the same mistake with Windows 10) to polish it more.
PC: Yes. Console: No.

You can disable secure boot for sure. On Windows's install, Shift+F10 to open cmd, regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig and add BypassSecureBootCheck DWORD and set it to 1. Maybe update BIOS though? It's a bit weird that it won't boot with secure mode.

You need UEFI. Is the boot media formatted as GPT?

I'm back on Win10. I've had some weird issues, like apps not opening or moving windows becoming really slow plus I've lost a few points in TimeSpy.
I liked the way they integrated multiple desktops and I got used to the new system sounds but honestly there is no reason for Win11 right now except if you want to try out new stuff.

"Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Yea, this seems to be the problem on boot if secure boot is enabled.

Any serious company runs servers behind strict firewall zones and/or NATs. You limit exact ports for exact services in both directions, you don't just sit and hope Windows doesn't send your data to NSA, so it doesn't really matter which OS is running your services.

I have used Windows Server in the past, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and then 2019. but it's just not as convenient as the normal Windows. The server management UI is not that handy when you just have a single server. Windows Server is also behind on new features as it takes a new release (years later) for them to be added. Normal Windows is also plenty of stable to run as a server.
So I run Windows (+ WSL/Docker for some Linux stuff). Which works well, and have IIS set up as a reverse proxy for what needs to be public. As far as running the server fully on Linux, no, I can't, some apps require Windows. I probably wouldn't either. Windows is easier to manage. I know my way around Linux well enough, but I prefer Windows. If Windows breaks, it's usually pretty easy to fix. On Linux, not so much. Also Windows is easier to manage and there's little available just for Linux

I gave it a shot and it's not that big of a change. Works ok I guess.
The auto hide taskbar still leaves a thin line when hidden and now the windows are a bit transparent but with awful gradients banding....
Anyway - I updated from current win10 install just to claim free update and I hate it this way. Going to do proper clean install from usb later.
Does win10 method of unplugging ethernet and setting local account during install work? I am not a fan of using microsoft account

I'm under the impression you don't need to pull the ethernet cable to select a local account install. When you get to the part of the install that asks you set up a Microsoft account, you click on "Sign in options", then "Offline account", and lastly "Skip for now" to avoid being redirected back to a Microsoft account.
