What about it? Or maybe you mean some area in particular?
Actually, if you want and don't mind a bit of offtopic, I can tell you something about the Computer Science research sector. There are societal factors that led to the sector having more males than females (example: in the '90s many computer games were more tailored and accessible to males due to prejudices that were prevalent at that time, and this drove up interest in computer science).
But instead of letting the trend balance out naturally - as it has been in the past decade - the higher-ups in universities are actively discriminating in favor of females to even out the ratio even more quickly. In other words, people are discriminated against based on gender, and positions are not awarded to the best applicant but the best applicant who has the right gender. I can give multiple examples of positions (including highly coveted tenure-track positions) that are open exclusively to female applicants, and males cannot apply regardless of quality. And the default tie-breaking method for various awards and choices has become gender: in case of two equal applicants, they choose the female applicant.
So, yeah, there is discrimination in research - but in the opposite way than you might have expected. (I want to be very clear here that my belief is that people should be judged based on their intellectual qualities alone, without considering irrelevant stuff like race or color.)

TBC is so bad though, it was fun back in the day but now you realize how simple the game was back then too.

Not sure about FFXIV, I gave it good 10 hours or so, just not for me to be honest. Also, half the player base is running around with half naked anime girl characters LOL
My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 128gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.
Derpsole: Nintendo Switch, Derpstation 5 Pro

Give it an honest 10-15 hours before you decide if it's for you.
It took me until lvl 30 to get hooked... But then I was properly hooked.
Everyone I meet and play with is friendly, encouraging and willing to help.
People aren't exaggerating when they say the community is amazing.
The combat is probably the weakest part but it gets a lot better from lvl 30/40 and onwards.
The story is amazing, particularly after like lvl50 and the DLCs.
I kinda even regret putting time in to WoW instead of FFXIV now. |
Community isn't without faults though. There are a lot of weirdos... A lot. And they are stickler for the rules to the point where it's annoying. You play a bit different than the norm even if it works, you might just get someone whining about it.

I hit level 64 or so and quit. I really tried. Must have already been over a hundred hours or more. ( Yea I fell for the grind, I had like 5 level 60 classes or so - anything to avoid that MSQ grind and just do some dungeons or pvp with friends).
Everybody is like "HEY GUISE. PLAY THIS! THE STORY IS GRRRRRRREAT."
Nah fam. Anime level shit though that's not actually the worst part.
When you play and don't do any bullshit side stuff, which you will inevitably do to level other classes, play with friends, make money or get good items or whatever, you still only get to experience an "okay to decent" story about 20-30% of the time you play the MSQ.
The rest is "run there, kill that, for NO GOOD REASON or hey you're the WARRIOR OF LIGHT CHOSEN SUPER HERO PERSON THAT IS KNOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD. Go pick some fucking apples, bitch."
Over and over and over again. Basically a huge struggle/grind or at least what I would call work to get to experience that story every now and then.
Like, nah. I value my time too much to endure that. I might as well play a game that is 100% good story all the time instead of having to suffer through hundreds of hours of bullshit to experience it.
Community really is not too bad tho. Had gotten worse with the influx of all the WoW kids sadly.
But otherwise it's that typical scheme of stretching that butter so thin you're gonna have to get a microscope to see it's molecules stretched out over miles of bread.
Bullshit artists afraid to not have most of the game be filler because otherwise you'll quickly see the ACTUAL effort put in by the devs is a fucking joke.
I mean this game has 11 years of content. If it would just consist of the worthwhile and necessary content you'd be finished in 2 weeks.
MMOs are dead and it'll take something or someone special to revive them.

Well you did that to yourself by hitting 60+ with 5 or 6 characters without moving on. I dunno why you blame the game for that, anyone would get tired from grinding like that without a properly casual mindset about it.

Even casual leveling is fucking fast as shit.
In a week I got to 60 a few months ago with a friend after not playing it since WoW launched. And it was a 'time killer' but nothing I want to redo on another character for a week to get another max level.
Levels 1-60 is pretty much just a 30 hour extended tutorial for how to play your class so you can repetitively raid/dungeon crawl.
Just my opinion. I thought I'd give it another shot after 10+ years since my friend wanted me to. But nope same thing as before to me: The MMO that both brought MMO to the main market, and ruined MMO's by: Cookie Cutter classes and End Game content IS the game.
Sooo many great deep customization, complexity, and nuance to characters to tweak a character just how you wanted in MMO's before it, and a few trying after it. (Neocron, Asheron's Call, Vanguard, Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies [not the new one] etc)
But WoW was so "Mobile MMO for the masses" every one making them flocked to its business model: Minimum complexity, so simple your grandma can enjoy it MMO framework .
I even TRIED, REALLY hard to make a horribly broke character after my level 60 to see how clueless to any mechanics you can be and still 'win', it's not possible to make one. Every combination is a 'winner'...with what tiny selection of combinations you do get to actually pick. No matter what I tried, I could get to level 30 without dying once. (randomly click powers and specializations without reading them and equip random shit I found or bought off AH sorted by cheapest).
No matter how many ways I try to enjoy it it constantly feels like "Fisher Prices: My First MMO".

I know, but halting any story progression completely and only grinding will make you bored to tears soon enough.

I'm the opposite (admittingly a minority), that story in any games usually bores me to tears. I'm the guy slapping the space bar going "Why can I not skip this??"
MMO even more so since it's a hollow story, since the "Oh please help I need help and only you can!" type missions has a LINE of people before and after me that 'only could'. Thank me, and my brave hero self for saving you from that bear? No problem I am only the millionth to do exactly that. Oh look the guy running up behind me did it too! let me get out of the way so you can thank him also.
I have a rule, your game makes me sit thru more than 2 cutscenes I cannot skip? It gets uninstalled. You get the intro one most have..and one for something you think is important later. If I wanted a movie, I'd go watch a movie.
Played all of Far Cry 5 with a friend (only story driven FPS I've played in a looong time so its the example)..NO idea why we killed all those people other than some religious nut..something something..
