I think the strong point for HR is that it had more variety in locations, more hubs, but i think that MD had better combat iirc as it been a few years since i played. Both great games.

I didn't get very far in MD, but one thing that was definitely better was the build variety. It was much more viable to do an old school FPS build (without using the cover system) with the buffs to the armour augs and the max life increases.
If you tried that in HR (even with the 3rd level Dermal plating), you got killed instantly more or less.

The shooting simply sucks in DX games.
I vastly prefer HR because of the story/characters/conspiracy. Overall a better world.
MD was a lot better in gameplay, but HR was absolutely awesome overall. Unless you wanted to shoot, shooting sucked balls in both.

My ideal nuDeus Ex would be a combination of Human Revolution's themes and atmosphere with Mankind Divided's core mechanics and enhanced focus on exploration, the best of both Jensens. Even with their own shortcomings and obvious consolizations though they truly were (and still are!) very remarkable games. Every time I open this thread I become a sad panda, the poor franchise deserved a better fate than being crippled, shelved and forgotten like a rusty restroom-cleaning bot.

I've never finished this game the first time around but after doing HR, I've restarted it.
So I remember there was a way that during missions, you could check if you were still getting the ghost reward, I just don't remember where to check. I'm still in the Tutorial Mission btw.
Thanks for pointing me to it.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

If you get the alarm tutorial it means you screwed up the Smooth Operator bonus and you won't be eligible for the "Foxiest of the Hounds" achievement. This doesn't always work though, because the alarm ca be triggered after you completed a mission. Also, there are some automatic alarm triggers that won't mess with the achievement.
There's nothing for Ghost and the related achievement requires you to get the Ghost XP bonus one time.

@Nodrim:
Thanks for the answer. But my issue is a different one. I think I remember that during a mission, you could see, somewhere in the Menu, that you were still "Ghost" in the mission, so you could continue on knowing it was all still good. This wasn't a feature in HR and maybe I'm imagining things here.

This is what the Marvelization of our gaming culture leads to.
HR and MD were pretty bold games. They were mechanically good, fulfilling games. Very well crafted. HR even had something to say. MD was just a mess story wise.
Still, I really hope we get a continuation of it.

If you get a Ghost bonus at the end of the mission, you're still in "ghost mode"
As far as I know there is no other certain way to make sure of it. Also, when cameras etc enter search mode, you're no longer in Ghost mode.
Also, alarms can be set even when you're out of the area.

Not sure if anyone is familiar with Core Decay but it seems to be inspired by Deus Ex, offering different ways to solve problems as well as customization with augmentations. The main character even has a voice similar to JC.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1260940/Core_Decay/
Sadly the release date is not set so we can't know when to expect it.
You can join the 3DRealms Discord to find out more about the game, even the main dev chats there with fans: https://discord.gg/3drealms

Def keeping an eye on that one, hopefully the artstyle allows them to put more meat where it matters in an immersive sim.

Not holding my hopes high but fingers crossed indeed for some decent knockoff-ish JC experience with proper level design

Wasn't it like if you knocked someone out it would still act like they saw you even when you got rid of the body afterwards?
Not sure but it's been a while so I may be mistaken.

@Yondaime Thats a pretty good idea actually. I may try that out. Thanks.
@harry_theone Well theoretically if you hide the body well enough you should still get the ghost bonus. But from what I read, there are issues with this sometimes.

Invest on the stealth, silent and jump augs (actually, the previous might not be available for use simultaneously, can't remember) a ton of power cells and you're good to go.

@couleur what do you want to achieve with ghosting? Foxiest of the hounds acheevo? Because that can get messed up in many ways.
I just checked my Steam and I have to replay it. Quite some things to do, not counting DLCs.

@tonizito Thanks, yes that's what I've planned. But I'm investing a lot in hacking first.
@difm It's about getting the most XP possible. (OCD) But I've managed to convince myself now, that going after these XP might not be so important after all and to just enjoy the game.
And damn this game looks gorgeous on 3440x1440 compared to my previous 1920x1200 and runs reasonably well with 40-70 FPS on Ultra settings on my Vega64.
Awesome game.

Just finished. Quite the cliffhanger too.
Damn, I just hope they can make a sequel worthy of this series.
But I've got to say, there really is no need to get all the Praxis points nor the XP. I had some leftover praxis at the end and features I barely used.

I think I judged Mankind Divided too harshly back then or maybe the many letdowns that followed rethought me a valuable lesson about expectations. In many ways this game is cyberpunk done right, having its mature themes reinforced by a troubling morality rather than a juvenile display. But this is Deus Ex we are talking about, so naturally, I wanted more. That’s not to say this is a bad game, not even close. It’s just disappointing to see such a complex narrative failing to spread its wings and cutting short with no sequel in sight. And with Eidos’ Avengers losing money, the future of Deus Ex feels more uncertain than ever before.
Pros:
+ Impressive visual style with a keen attention for details
+ Outstanding level design
+ Solid gameplay combining elements of stealth and action
+ Epic soundtrack and great voice acting
+ High quality side missions
+ Sense of progression
Cons:
– The story suffers from being a stepping stone in a trilogy
– Performance problems that persist to this day
– Stiff shooting
– UI design and functionality
– Sluggish movement
– Immersion breaking black screen before takedown sequences
– Microtransactions
