What are you formatting? Your internal 300Gb? Or an external 1TB for use with Rogero? Either way, sounds excessive.

Can you abort it and just choose "Quick Format"? I guess not. Googling, it seems that's not unusual, I just don't recall mine taking several days when I installed a new 750Gb on it, so there must be a quick fomart option.

Yah, I went with the full over the quick, because mine seems messed up somehow.. wanted to make sure it was all cleared out all the way. ;p

Oh well, maybe it'll be done when I wake up. Wink

I remember when I upgraded my Hard Drive. It took about 8hrs just to transfer the backup content over.

One thing is for sure, don't let it know your in a hurry.

just a friendly warning, don't use format if you are on Rogero 4.30, it has a chance to brick some consoles, especially those that store some of fw data on hdd (slims and newer fats).

Phew, guess it didn't brick mine, it's an original 60gb launch model...

Although, even with the full wipe, it's still automatically down by 30GB... bastards. Does it take a % or soemthing for itself? I thought it only took like a flat 6GB..

Yeah, not only do you not get the "market speak" amount (ie; 300GB is actually 279GB or thereabouts since 1MB is 1024KB, not 1000KB as manufacturers call it) but you'll ALSO lose 8-10% the drive for "system" usage. You think losing 30GB is bad? Try installing 1TB drive and watching your space drop by 90GB+ Sad My TB has 931GB usable.. and the PS3 would take 93GB of that for cache/system usage.

My word, I forgot how painful trying to play games on the PS3 is. Wanted a "quick look" at LBP2 last night - 45 minutes later I could actually play! First off, 18 updates which took forever... Then it decided to install essential files or something, another 10 minutes or so, then finally it decided to do some configuration tuning as well. Fuckin ell!!!

Ah, damn! Well, at least it seems like it's functionally sound. ;p

Any particular reason you haven't updated to 4.30?

Ah I see.. which kind of tweaks do people use/appreciate mostly? I've never run into anything lacking that I wanted to do with PS3 (play games), curious to what people like to tweak?

i like my cfw as clean as possible because it reduces possibility of bugs and other problems. i can understand people not wanting to upgrade to current 4.30 cfw as it's hacked together version using shady files from other CFWs. i really hope a much better cfw offering will be out soon.

Well it's still Friday in America, so this was right on time Very Happy

http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threads/5347-EXCLUSIVE-REBUG-releases-their-CFW-the-only-firmware-you-will-ever-need!

Quote:

FOREWORD
It has been a long time since the last firmware release, mainly because we did not see a reason to keep releasing cfw after cfw just to changes files in ‘dev_flash’. We wanted the next release to be something different and we are quietly confident it is.

The first thing users of previous REBUG firmware will notice is the old Rebug Selector has been given a complete overhaul and facelift based off of the multiMAN XXMB engine. We added quite a few features and it has now earned itself a new name Rebug Toolbox 02.00.00 but we will explain the toolbox later in more depth. Right now….

We give you REBUG 3.55.3 and 4.21.1 REX EDITIONS and the ’999′ DOWNGRADER. All the features listed below are in ALL firmware versions unless stated otherwise.

REBUG REX EDITION FEATURES

FEATURE – Dual LV2 Kernels CEX/DEX
(Swap your EID0/LV2 kernel using Rebug Toolbox in seconds)

FEATURE – ALL Retail functions available in CEX mode
(No need to install different firmware)

FEATURE – ALL Debug functions available in DEX mode
(No need to install different firmware)

FEATURE – ProDG Connectivity in DEX mode

FEATURE – QA Token compatibility

FEATURE – OtherOS++ support enabled
(Use Rebug Toolbox to Boot OtherOS with different LV1 patches)

UPDATED – Rebug Toolbox 02.00.00

UPDATED – 4.31 Version Spoof files
(PSN/SEN Enabled for 4.21.1 REX ONLY)

PATCHED – LV1: Disable System Integrity Check
(Safe to use with mismatched COREOS/SYSCON versions or if PS3 is not QA enabled)

PATCHED – LV1: Peek and Poke support
(Unused LV1 call 182 and 183)

PATCHED - LV2: Peek and Poke support
(LV2 Syscall 6 and 7)

PATCHED - LV2: Peek and Poke support for LV1
(LV2 Syscall 8 and 9)

PATCHED - LV2: LV1 CALL System call
(LV2 Syscall 10)

PATCHED - VSH: Allow Unsigned act.dat and *.rif files

PATCHED - VSH: Disable Unlinking/Deleting of act.dat

FUN FEATURE – Fake Save Data Owner in CEX and DEX
(Use Game Saves from ANY Owner)

FUN FEATURE – Lock/Unlock Trophies in CEX and DEX

FUN FEATURE – Cinavia protection disabled in CEX and DEX mode

It's a shame they stuck with 4.21 (yes, I know all the keys are the same, but it's still three firmware versions outdated, hopefully an upgrade patch comes out) but man, it was certainly worth waiting for Very Happy

I have always seen your raving so much about it Sabin. Is it because it offers so many extra features? or is there something in particular that you fancy?

You are right, with lv0 keys we can get lv1 and lv2 keys. But Sony was tricky this time and encrypted lv1 and lv2 keys in lv0 so they are hard to get. For this you need another exploit to unobfuscate them, like the appldr keys.

So far, all keys we have gotten are because of leaks (except lv0 where the tutorial has been posted by JuanNadie) which is why nobody knows how to get lv1 and lv2 keys and they are so magic.

But in fact you answered yourself : basically you can get them with lv0, now it's up to you to get lv1 & lv2, that's the easiest part Smile

They are needed to make a CFW, because lv1ldr and lv2Ldr are part of the chain of trust. Else they are useless. Lv1 keys are needed to get the appldr keys though. So yeah, these keys are needed in the next FW if they change them (most likely) to not only make a new CFW but also decrypt new games (since without lv1 keys, not app keys !).

I think that's where Sony will play now, stall stuff a little obfuscating keys...

Mostly due to the extra features being offered, as well as the enormous testing that goes into creating it - you know Rebug put every effort into making it the best FW out there. All the patches are already applied, it's been tested and everything up to 4.31 works like a charm. No bricking, no frankenstein'ing different parts from different FWs, it's all good Smile

For now? Disabled Cinavia, patched LV1 allowing burned disc - including PS1 - backups, patched signing of act.dat/RIFs which allows for greater PSN piracy, Fake Save Owner which lets you use anyone else's save files. There's more but if you're interested then I suggest reading the site, I'm not here to "sell" anything Smile

Hey Sabin, Is the playing of burned discs in Rebug only for PS1 games, or does it work with PS2 and PS3? Just curious.

PS1 and PS3, via MM's "discBOOT" tools at least. No PS2 yet, that requires cracking/reversing the PS2emu.self files, something only Cobra has done so far Sad
